I Pick Up Talents on the Interstellar Battlefield

Chapter 1089 - 669: Secrets Unveiled

Chapter 1089: Chapter 669: Secrets Unveiled

"My lord!"

Han Xu strode out from the Gate of Space. As soon as he landed, he saw the battlefield in front of him, devastated and chaotic—blackened cracks crisscrossed the ground, deep grooves dug by willow branches, and dark red bloodstains smeared among the dead grass and debris.

Han Xu quickly approached Dongfang Haoyue, bowing his head deeply, his voice tinged with heavy guilt: "I’m sorry, I’ve been a burden to you."

His burly frame was slightly hunched at the moment, his hands clenched into fists, knuckles white. As a guardian, being lured away when his master needed him the most was an unbearable dereliction of duty for him.

Even though he knew it was part of the plan, even though he knew his strength might indeed not be of much help in such a level of confrontation, the self-blame within him still gnawed at him like a venomous snake.

Seeing Han Xu’s expression full of shame and disappointment, Dongfang Haoyue gently patted Han Xu’s shoulder, the force steady and warm. He could understand Han Xu’s feelings—this man valued loyalty above life itself, taking responsibility for every injury he suffered, every danger he faced, as if he could shield his master from all threats if only he were stronger, faster.

"Han Xu, you’ve been at my side through life and death for years, blocking countless blows for me, and I remember it clearly," Dongfang Haoyue’s voice was gentle, "Without you, I would have died long ago under previous assassination attempts. This time, Qin Tian and I set up the trap to lure out Wei Dong, the traitor, and those hidden rats around us. So your departure was an indispensable part of the plan, and there’s no need for further thought or guilt."

Upon hearing this, Han Xu felt somewhat relieved, his tense shoulders slightly relaxed. However, he suddenly realized something, his eyes widened in shock: "Wei Dong is a traitor? He betrayed you?"

"That’s right." Dongfang Haoyue nodded, his tone calm but a cold glint flashed in his eyes, "We came to Ice Extreme Pass on a secret mission, with routes meticulously planned; apart from the three of us, no one else knew the exact itinerary. Yet, even so, those people still precisely found me on the return trip. Tell me, who could have done this?"

He paused, his voice deepening, "Think again, in our previous operations, we were equally cautious, but were still ambushed on the way. If not for Wei Dong leaking intelligence, could it really be me who tipped them off?"

"Wei Dong—!"

Han Xu’s teeth ground with a creaking sound, fury blazing like flames within him. He had never imagined, Wei Dong, the man whom the lord had hand-picked from the bottom, who stayed the longest and was most trusted by the lord, would choose to betray.

He even considered Wei Dong a good brother, a trustworthy companion.

How many times they drank together, talked together, he could even remember the warm smile on Wei Dong’s face when he spoke of his younger siblings, recalling his devout tone saying, "The lord is like my reborn parent."

Unexpectedly, the guy turned out to be a wolf-hearted backstabber.

"My lord, where’s Wei Dong?" Han Xu asked, fists clenched, his voice bearing irrepressible anger, "Where is he now? I’ll go kill him this instant!"

"No need." Dongfang Haoyue shook his head, "He’s already dead."

Dead?

Upon hearing Wei Dong was dead, Han Xu was initially stunned, then sneered: "For a traitor like him, death was indeed too cheap."

Then, Han Xu turned to Qin Tian, bowing deeply, his waist bent extremely low: "General Qin, thank you for protecting the lord."

Qin Tian chuckled, a hint of teasing in his tone: "I’m protecting my own brother-in-law, and you’re thanking him on behalf of the lord? Could it be your relationship with him is closer than mine?"

"No, no, that’s not..." Han Xu gestured emphatically, the burly man was so flustered his face turned a bit red, momentarily at a loss, not knowing how to respond.

"Alright, stop bullying the honest guy," Dongfang Haoyue looked at Qin Tian helplessly.

Qin Tian shrugged, ceasing his teasing and returning to business: "To go all the way. We’re not far from the Dongfang Clan’s headquarters, I’ll directly teleport you both nearby. Prevent any accidents along the way."

"You’re not coming?"

Dongfang Haoyue asked, "The elders have been wanting to see you."

"I’ll find the Elders to claim credit once I’ve conquered San Tuo Mountain."

Qin Tian laughed, then with a wave of his large hand, a Gate of Space slowly opened before the two.

"Contact me anytime if there are issues." Qin Tian looked at Dongfang Haoyue, his smile faded, his tone more solemn.

"Don’t worry, I won’t be shy about that," Dongfang Haoyue chuckled, saying no more words, then turned to walk into the Gate of Space alongside Han Xu.

Silver light flickered briefly, before the figures of the two vanished into the air.

The Gate of Space gradually closed, calm returned to the Desolate Wilderness.

Qin Tian stood alone on the barren wilderness, wind brushing past his ears, rustling his black robe. He didn’t leave straightaway, but gazed into a distant direction, his eyes slightly rippling, murmuring softly:

"You, rascal, have no shortage of bodyguards. Even without me today, you wouldn’t have died."

He stood quietly for a moment, then confirmed the hidden aura in the distance had discreetly retired, raising his hand, the Reincarnation Lamp manifested in his palm, its dark golden body exuding an eternal glow.
