Infinite Save: I Cultivate Immortality Through Reincarnation

Chapter 690: Mountain Wild Man

A wild man from the mountains?

Chen Yan gazed at the Qi Circulation Realm cultivator standing before him with an air of arrogance, and fell silent for a brief moment.

What an insolent fellow.

Yet he felt no displeasure whatsoever. If anything, he found it somewhat amusing.

With that, Chen Yan put on a bewildered and slightly flustered expression, looking quite wary as he retreated a couple of steps backward.

"Moon-Embracing Sect... cultivator?"

As if completely unfamiliar with the term spoken by that Qi Circulation Realm cultivator named Gao Tai, Chen Yan probed cautiously.

"Pfft!"

A lively and playful-looking female cultivator standing off to the side covered her mouth and giggled:

"This person's accent is so strange!"

Chenping Continent spanned tens of millions of li in both length and width. Across such a vast expanse of land, everyone nevertheless spoke the same language.

In truth, more than a hundred thousand years ago, even the written script and spoken language of Chenping Continent had yet to be unified.

That was until Heavenly Summit Mountain appeared.

Heavenly Summit Mountain's contribution to Chenping Continent was not merely spurring the flourishing development of the cultivation world there, but also unifying the written script and systems of measurement across the entire continent.

And the script and measurements adopted were completely identical to those of the former Tianji Continent.

As for the script and measurements used by Tianji Continent, barring any surprises, they should also have been completely unified with the Three Thousand Worlds governed by Lord Qingluo.

It was precisely for this reason that Chenping Continent, from the emergence of Heavenly Summit Mountain onward, finally possessed a true comprehensive history.

Even though the written script and language had long been unified, given Chenping Continent's immense size, the differences in regional accents remained enormously significant.

With that lively and playful female disciple of the Moon-Embracing Sect mocking Chen Yan's speech and tone as if ridiculing him, the atmosphere among the other young Moon-Embracing Sect disciples grew even more animated and relaxed.

They certainly saw no problem whatsoever in ridiculing the awkward accent of some wild rustic from deep in the mountains.

Meanwhile, the middle-aged man with dark skin, clad in coarse cloth garments, his face etched with knife-like wrinkles, appeared extremely embarrassed and flustered in the face of so much jeering and mockery.

"So, you're a wild man from the Martial Immortal Mountain Range?"

Gao Tai continued, directing his question toward Chen Yan.

Chen Yan could clearly discern just how rigid the hierarchy was among the six Moon-Embracing Sect cultivators before him.

Zhou Wu, being a Martial Spring Realm cultivator, held the highest seniority and cultivation among the group.

Yet within the Moon-Embracing Sect, his status fell far short of Nie Yu, the one upon whom such great hopes were pinned.

And Gao Tai's position was clearly superior to the other three as well.

"The Martial Immortal Mountain Range... what is that?"

Chen Yan's accent remained strange, and he seemed to speak timidly, as if afraid.

Faced with the panic and confusion displayed by this "wild man" before them, one of the Moon-Embracing Sect disciples quickly seemed to realize something and spoke up toward Gao Tai:

"Senior Brother Gao, this wild man has never left the Martial Immortal Mountain Range his entire life, so how could he possibly know what the Martial Immortal Mountain Range is?"

Hearing this, Gao Tai evidently found the disciple's words quite reasonable. He pondered for a moment, then spoke toward Chen Yan once more:

"Where do you come from?"

The middle-aged man in coarse cloth garments did not immediately answer Gao Tai's question. Instead, he looked the young cultivator in the dark blue daoist robe up and down:

"You lot seem pretty young, so how is it you speak with such a lack of manners?"

Hearing this "wild man" spout such reckless nonsense, Gao Tai was briefly stunned, and then a hint of irritation clearly surfaced in his eyes.

The true qi in his meridians began to surge, obviously eager to teach this "wild man" a lesson right then and there.

But just at that moment, Gao Tai suddenly felt an immense pressure bearing down from his side.

Gao Tai glanced toward Nie Yu, only to see this mere fifteen-year-old youth staring back at him with eyes utterly frigid and grim.

He immediately shuddered, retracted his surging true qi, and stepped back half a pace.

Nie Yu then revealed a refreshing youthful smile and stepped forward two paces:

"This elder brother, we've come from beyond the mountains. There are some matters we'd like to ask you about."

"Beyond the mountains?"

The "wild man" seemed to still harbor considerable wariness toward these young people, and asked in response.

"That's right, the lands beyond these mountains."

Nie Yu explained.

Thereupon, the wild man in coarse cloth garments with dark skin seemed to sink into thought. After several more breaths of silence, he spoke toward Nie Yu once again:

"What do you want to ask about?"

"Might I ask this elder brother, do you know where in these mountains wild beasts that ordinary people can hunt might be found?"

Nie Yu asked.

"Wild beasts, huh."

After pondering a bit more, the "wild man" began answering Nie Yu's question.

"Walk west from here, all the way to the pine grove on that hillside over there, and wild boars frequently show up. Though it seems you lot didn't bring any weapons..."

As he spoke, the wild man slowly lowered his gaze, his eyes settling upon the long swords hanging at the waists of two among the six Moon-Embracing Sect disciples:

"Swords like those won't do. Too short, and not practical either. If you want to kill wild boars, you'll need spears."

"Thank you for the guidance, elder brother."

Nie Yu said with a smile:

"However, we didn't come into the mountains to hunt wild boars."

"Then what did you come to hunt?"

The "wild man" asked, appearing quite puzzled by Nie Yu's words.

"Something fiercer than a wild boar."

Nie Yu said.

For some reason, Chen Yan found the words coming from this youngster before him quite amusing, and he nearly laughed.

"Something fiercer than a wild boar... let me think..."

Following that, Chen Yan, disguised as a native of the settlements in the Martial Immortal Mountain Range, began to ponder once more:

"I recall, if you head southeast from here, about a dozen or so li out, there's a strange bird."

"A strange bird?"

Hearing this, Nie Yu raised an eyebrow slightly, appearing very interested in the "strange bird" Chen Yan had mentioned, and pressed further:

"What does that strange bird look like?"

"Standing on the ground, it's probably about as tall as a person. Its feathers are a greenish-brown, with a few white feathers on top of its head. Its eyes are light brown, and its beak is gold. When it spreads its wings, they're as big as the stone houses in our village!"

The "wild man" described the appearance of that strange bird with great vividness.

"Are all its feathers greenish-brown, or are there other colors?"

Zhou Wu asked.

"There shouldn't be... no wait, the feathers at the tips of its wings seem to be pure black."

The "wild man" answered in such a manner.
