Reborn as a Weak Beauty Pampered by All

Chapter 1784 - 1328: I Never Had a Chance_4

Chapter 1784: Chapter 1328: I Never Had a Chance_4

The villagers who came to Big Uncle Kang’s House to help pick and wash vegetables... have all gradually headed back to their own homes.

All the preparations are done, just waiting for the chef to take over tomorrow morning.

These days, when rural families have weddings or funerals, everyone in the village helps out, and you need to borrow quite a few tables and stools. But the Kang Family has a good reputation in Aoli Village. There’s no need for Big Uncle Kang, Captain Kang, or Young Uncle Kang to even ask—those who come to help, if their family has tall tables or long benches, just bring them along when they come in the afternoon.

As for pots, bowls, pans, and utensils for the banquet, the chef’s household keeps them ready, specially for renting out to folks within a ten-mile radius whenever events happen.

No doubt about it—the chef is a clever one, using this legitimate way to make some money and better his life.

Reasonable, and it brings convenience to the villagers, so he’s often thanked.

If the chef’s mind worked a little quicker and he kept tables and benches for hire too, he’d probably rake in even more...

"Go sleep, everyone. Tomorrow you’ll need an early start, no point in all hanging around here."

Back home, sitting on the kang bed, Cai Xiufen looked around at the room packed full, raised her hand, and started shooing people out.

Captain Kang didn’t say anything.

"Mom, I’ll stay. I want to chat with you and Dad for a bit."

Kang Guosheng—aka Second Brother Kang—spoke up then. Seeing their mother didn’t chase him out, he glanced at Kang Li: "Li Bao, you stay in Mom and Dad’s room for a while too."

Kang Li understood he wanted to talk to her too.

She nodded and told Ming Rui, "Ruirui, you take Hanhan and Weiwei, and get Tuantuan and Tangyuan washed up and in bed first."

"Alright."

Ming Rui replied, then called Ming Han and Ming Wei to carry Tuantuan, Tangyuan, Guoguo out the door.

Big Brother Kang, Third Brother Kang, Fourth Brother Kang, and Kang Guoan all sent their families away. Without waiting for Captain Kang or Cai Xiufen to say anything, each kicked off their shoes and climbed onto the kang, crowding in with Kang Guosheng and Kang Li.

"Old man, you getting a headache?"

Seeing all her sons packed on the kang, Cai Xiufen’s eyebrows nearly twisted into a knot.

"Mm."

Captain Kang nodded.

Too many sons can give you a headache, but at least his bunch are pretty easy-going.

"Dad, us brothers are definitely not unfilial!"

Kang Guoan laughed.

"Fifth Brother’s right, Dad, Mom, we brothers are all devoted to you. Of course, compared to Li Bao, our filial piety might look pretty weak!"

Fourth Brother Kang said, glanced at Kang Li, and then looked visibly embarrassed.

Big Brother Kang smiled at Kang Li: "Li Bao, I can’t match you for filial devotion to Mom and Dad, but I’ll work hard. I’ll try not to let you leave me too far behind."

Third Brother Kang also looked at Kang Li: "Li Bao, when it comes to taking care of Mom and Dad, I can’t compete with you. But as long as Mom and Dad are here in the hometown, I’ll make sure they’re well taken care of."

That was the truth. Ever since Grandpa Kang and Grandma Kang came back for National Day, Cai Xiufen and Captain Kang’s daily lives have basically been managed by Third Brother Kang.

Like helping Cai Xiufen cook, or following Captain Kang to work the fields—in short, Third Brother Kang spends at least half the month in the village.

Everything in the clothing shop is handled by Third Sister-in-law Kang.

"Big Brother, you guys are full of talk. Now I don’t even know what to say."

Kang Guosheng gave a wry smile: "I’ve been working in North City for over a year now, but barely have time to visit Mom and Dad at Li Bao’s place. Instead, Mom and Dad travel all that way to see us. To be honest, whether as a son or as an elder brother, I feel ashamed! Haven’t managed to be filial to Mom and Dad much, haven’t helped Li Bao with anything either. Looking back, I feel like I’m pretty much useless!"

"Second Brother, what, are you and the rest holding a self-criticism session for me?"

Kang Li couldn’t tell whether to laugh or cry. She said, "How are you useless? You’re out there serving the country. If there weren’t people like you, could we live such safe and peaceful lives?"

Her soft, smiling gaze swept over her brothers. Kang Li continued, "We’re all Mom and Dad’s children. From what I see, if we’re talking filial piety, I can’t compare to you guys. First off, growing up, Mom and Dad pampered me, you all pampered me, never let me do anything. Whenever there was good food, it always went to me first. After I married Yanqing, Mom and Dad couldn’t bear to let me live alone in North City,

not only sent Little Brother to go with me, later Mom even came herself to take care of me, and then Dad came too to help look after me and the kids. Honestly, it’s not me taking care of Mom and Dad—it’s Mom and Dad always worrying about me. If you guys don’t want me to die of embarrassment, stop saying I’m more filial than you. Otherwise, I’ll jump off the kang and walk right out!"
