Chapter 298: Chapter 272: The Cannon is Set! Blast It to Hell
Bagget had clearly noticed the change in Red Crying Castle. He stopped using the signature "Shadow Blade" of a High-Tier Stalker. Instead, his figure flickered and split into over a dozen shadow clones. They scattered in all directions, leaving behind small, dark traces wherever they went.
Jon, who was maintaining his Foresight Skill, saw it clearly. As Bagget’s clones swarmed over Red Crying Castle’s outer shell like fleas, the inconspicuous dark traces began to connect into lines, emitting faint, strangely colored wisps.
"It’s Poison."
Standing to the side with his arms folded, Royce stared intently at the battlefield and said in a low voice.
"I didn’t expect this ’Night Owl’ to choose the Poison Element over Shadow. What a dangerous fellow."
Jon didn’t reply, but he silently agreed.
After all, the greatest hurdle for a Professional to cross from the Official Level to the Advanced Level was "elemental affinity." This was also the single biggest factor that created a gap between the two.
The boost in combat power a Professional received from a strong element versus a weak one was like night and day.
But "weak" didn’t mean "not dangerous."
As a niche element with an extremely high mortality rate during its trials, the Poison Element certainly couldn’t go head-to-head with the more grand and domineering elements. Its greatest strength, however, was its ability to take down a giant. Just as venomous creatures in nature could fell beasts many times their size, Professionals who Advanced using the Poison Element often possessed the ability to make their Poison bypass Resistance!
Sure enough, under the corrosion of Bagget’s intangible, formless, yet bone-dissolving and soul-rotting poison, even the seemingly invincible Red Crying Castle visibly began to slow down.
Its already clumsy steps grew even more sluggish. Each time its jagged stone claws fell, the movement was accompanied by the grating sound of rock on rock and a sickening SIZZLE from deep within its body—as if its foul flesh and Energy pathways were being frantically devoured by something.
"It’s working?!"
Seeing this, a spark of hope ignited in the eyes of Leona and the others, who were waiting in formation below.
However, high above, Jon and Finian both shook their heads in unison.
"A pity. Against any other enemy, a move like Lord Bagget’s would have been enough to secure victory, but—"
"This thing isn’t just a Mechanical Body. It has no normal Energy cycle at all. Even its flesh is just a chaotic mass manifested from the Power of Evil."
Jon’s fingertips unconsciously tapped against his Arm Armor.
"There’s no way it’s afraid of Poison damage!"
As if to prove his words, the great beast’s sluggishness lasted for less than ten breaths before it vanished completely.
Then, a roar filled with fury and filth erupted from the twisted, giant mouth atop the castle’s head.
"ROAR—!!!"
The dark red light flowing over Red Crying Castle’s surface suddenly grew thick and slick, like boiling, foul blood being forcibly pumped up from the depths of Hell!
A blinding crimson light burst forth at astonishing speed from every rock fissure, every arrow slit and window, solidifying into a viscous, bloody flame!
These bloody flames surged and washed over everything with a searing heat that could burn the very soul! The dark traces of Poison Bagget had so carefully arranged into an arcane sigil were instantly incinerated.
An even more terrifying change followed immediately!
The hard, dark-red downy feathers that had just broken through the ’flesh’ began to multiply and spread wildly at a visible rate, as if injected with a frenzied Life Force!
Like a living forest of metal thorns, they scrambled to burst forth and grow wildly from the gaps in Red Crying Castle’s abstract claws and joints!
"KRRRACKLE—CRUNCH!"
The dense, scalp-numbing cracks fused into one continuous sound. In the blink of an eye, the surface of the mountain-sized rock Giant was completely covered by a layer of dark-red, rigid-feathered armor that gleamed with a cold metallic luster, its edges as sharp as razors!
Each feather was like a tempered Fine Steel dagger, layered tightly one over the other without a single gap. Illuminated by the churning, bloody flames, they refracted a cold, sinister, and evil light!
At this point, Jon had lost all interest in watching the fight.
He turned to the two Saint Professionals beside him and said seriously.
"We can’t delay any longer. Please move in and help suppress this monster’s range of movement. My fire support will arrive shortly!"
Finian and Royce, of course, would not refuse.
Purging evil things was the sacred and unshirkable mission of the Sun’s followers. Since they were here, they couldn’t possibly stand by and do nothing.
However, the two exchanged a look, and both saw surprise and curiosity in each other’s eyes.
"His Highness Jon, what is the source of your confidence?"
"This isn’t a challenge, it’s just... this monster’s defenses are so strong, I doubt conventional weapons could even scratch it."
Faced with their questions, Jon, for once, didn’t give a direct answer. He simply shook his head.
"You’ll see soon enough."
Before the words had even faded, the air beside him suddenly distorted, letting out a faint, sharp sound like shattering glass.
Then, a silvery-white light scattered, outlining several phantom figures.
Claudio was the first to step out of the teleportation light, followed by a stumbling Dolores and Esra.
The purple-haired girl simply shook her head, and the usual sharpness returned to her amber eyes.
Esra, on the other hand, was clearly unsteady on her feet. Her black-rimmed glasses sat askew on her nose, her long black hair was stuck messily to her temples, and her pale little face was wan and dazed from the rapid succession of spatial teleports.
