Chapter 90: Chapter 89: That Money-Making Book
Gao Yuan couldn’t let his mom keep talking.
’If she keeps exposing my embarrassing childhood stories, I’ll die of social anxiety!’
He quickly turned and said, "Mom, they just got here. I’ll take them to get settled in first."
Thankfully, the house was only a two-bedroom, so Huang Xiuxia didn’t suggest Lin Wanyu and Li Mengqing stay with them.
Even so, the three of them chatted for another ten minutes or so, unwilling to part.
It wasn’t until Gao Yuan had led Lin Wanyu and Li Mengqing out the door that he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
’Three women are enough for an opera.’ That saying was no joke.
As Gao Yuan drove, he wondered, ’What would happen if one day Lin Wanyu, Li Mengqing, Meiting, Xiaoyan, and Xiao Xiao were all together in one place?’
’Wait,’
’Why did I include Xiao Xiao?’
At this thought, Gao Yuan glanced in the rearview mirror at the Sheltie lying quietly in the back.
During the whole ride, the two women in the back ignored Gao Yuan, completely absorbed in their conversation about his mother.
Gao Yuan hadn’t expected Lin Wanyu and Li Mengqing to have such a good impression of his mom.
They both agreed she would make a great mother-in-law, and they seemed almost eager to get married themselves.
Still, Gao Yuan was happy to see it. Barring any surprises, Lin Wanyu and Li Mengqing would have to get along with his family sooner or later.
A harmonious relationship was, of course, the best possible outcome.
Before long, Gao Yuan brought the two of them to the Furong Garden Hotel.
This was one of Xudu City’s high-end hotels. He wouldn’t have felt at ease putting two stunning beauties up in some smaller inn.
After leading them into the room, Gao Yuan flopped right onto the bed.
He had no intention of going home so early, where he would surely face an interrogation from his mother.
It would be better to just wait until eight o’clock, pick up his dad, and go home with him. They could have a small family meeting then and get everything out in the open at once.
Lin Wanyu, showing no restraint whatsoever, climbed right on top of Gao Yuan. Looking down at him, she asked, "Darling, how did I do today?"
"Perfect!"
Gao Yuan gave her a direct thumbs-up.
Lin Wanyu leaned in to kiss him, but Gao Yuan raised a hand to stop her.
It was the middle of the day, and with Li Mengqing right there, he couldn’t quite let himself go.
’Some things are just suspicions. Until they’re officially brought out into the open, I can’t act so shamelessly.’
Lin Wanyu had no choice but to back off.
When she made these intimate moves, she subconsciously paid no mind to Li Mengqing’s presence. In her mind, the three of them had already gone wild together.
She was ignoring the fact that Gao Yuan had been drunk and blindfolded at the time.
With nothing else to do, the three of them got a deck of cards from room service and started a game of Fight the Landlord.
This time, there were no heated punishments. The loser just got a sticky note put on their face.
They played until a little after five. Gao Yuan stretched, then took the two of them downstairs for dinner.
After dinner, Gao Yuan waited until seven, then got ready to go to the train station to pick up his dad.
"Darling, I’ll walk you out!"
Gao Yuan and Lin Wanyu went down to the Furong Garden Hotel’s parking garage.
Before he could get in the car, Lin Wanyu wrapped her arms around his neck, batting her eyelashes. "Darling," she purred, "we’ve had this car for so long, and we still don’t know how good the suspension is."
"Let’s go test it out!"
Lin Wanyu grabbed his hand and started to pull him toward the back door.
Gao Yuan instantly understood what she meant. He pulled her into his arms instead.
He bent his head and kissed her.
Under the bright lights of the parking garage, the two of them were locked in a passionate kiss.
They didn’t care about cameras or if anyone was watching.
After a long moment, they broke apart. Lin Wanyu was panting, her eyes hazy as she gazed at Gao Yuan.
"Darling, I’ve missed you."
Gao Yuan, still holding her, gave her shapely rear a light slap.
He knew that for her to follow him all the way to Xudu City, she must have really missed him terribly.
But he had to go pick up his dad from the station, so Lin Wanyu would just have to be disappointed.
"I have to go get my dad now. Tomorrow, I’ll show you two around Xudu City."
Hearing this, Lin Wanyu pouted, but she knew there was no other choice.
...
「Xudu Railway Station.」
Gao Yuan took the luggage from his father’s hands and led him toward the Brabus G900 in the parking garage.
As Gao Jianmin watched his son stop behind the Brabus G900, open the trunk, and load the luggage, he took a thoughtful drag from his cigarette.
The car started, and Gao Jianmin, sitting in the passenger seat, continued to smoke.
Gao Yuan didn’t ask his dad to put it out. It was his own car, after all. So what if his dad wanted to smoke?
"Where’d the car come from?"
"Bought it."
"Where’d the money come from?"
"Earned it."
Hearing his son’s answers, Gao Jianmin wanted to explode. But seeing Gao Yuan concentrating on the road, he just angrily lit another cigarette.
’Does he think I don’t know that cars cost money?’
’Or that money has to be earned?’
He couldn’t recognize the brand of this car, but even a fool could tell it wasn’t cheap.
’Where would a wage earner like Gao Yuan get this kind of money?’
’What did he have to do to be able to buy a car like this all at once?’
"How did you earn it?"
"Through hard work."
"How much did the car cost?"
"Over ten million!"
When Gao Yuan said the car was worth over ten million, the cigarette nearly fell from Gao Jianmin’s hand. A wave of regret washed over him.
In that instant, Gao Jianmin’s mind flashed to that book filled with get-rich-quick schemes.
’Only the methods in that book could make someone rich so quickly!’
’I knew it. I never should have let him stay in Hang City. With no one watching over him, a young man will do anything!’
Gao Jianmin didn’t say another word until the car was parked in their neighborhood.
He had smoked four or five cigarettes on the drive home.
After getting out of the car, Gao Jianmin strode toward their apartment without a backward glance.
Gao Yuan watched his father’s retreating back and grinned.
’My answers in the car were deliberate!’
’I just wanted to deflate my dad’s patriarchal attitude a bit.’
He actually understood his father quite well. The man was a minor manager, in charge of a few dozen people.
After so many years, it was inevitable he’d develop a bit of a bureaucratic streak.
If he hadn’t done this, explaining things later would be even more difficult.
’To put it bluntly, I wouldn’t have had a leg to stand on!’
It didn’t matter if it was at work, in a company, or at home.
The most capable person is usually the one who gets to call the shots.
It was the same in Gao Yuan’s little family.
He wanted his father to realize something.
The family’s main pillar was about to change, and the throne of the head of the household was about to be passed down to him.
It was time for his dad to take a back seat and act as an advisor.
Carrying the luggage and humming a tune, Gao Yuan walked through the front door.
Sure enough, the atmosphere was a little tense.
Gao Jianmin sat in the living room drinking tea, his face dark.
His mom was in the kitchen, making a snack for his dad.
"Come here. I need to ask you something."
Gao Yuan had just put down the luggage when Gao Jianmin, face stern, pointed to the sofa and said in a cold voice.
"Let me grab something."
Gao Yuan turned and went into his bedroom, retrieving a folder from his suitcase.
Back on the sofa, before Gao Jianmin could even open his mouth, Gao Yuan handed him the folder. "Dad, take a look at this first."
This was the share transfer agreement for the Lin Group.
Gao Jianmin looked down at the share transfer agreement in his hands, confused. He kept glancing up suspiciously at Gao Yuan.
Gao Yuan, meanwhile, casually unwrapped a pack of He Tian Xia cigarettes.
’Why settle for secondhand smoke when you can have your own?’
