Chapter 245: Chapter 128: Each Showing Their Prowess, The Art of Slaughter
An unfamiliar woman’s voice came over the channel.
This inexplicably startled the members of the investigation squad.
Usually.
The Investigation Legion shouldered the critical responsibility of exploring the Outer Forest, and between that and the great Parasitic Tide incident, it had the highest mortality rate of the four main branches of the Combat Defense Department.
Take the Twelfth Squad before them, the very first to be established—after just one week, forty percent of its faces were already gone.
One moment, Captain Hong was still feeling conflicted about his squad’s retreat.
The next, spurred by the unfamiliar woman’s reminder, his eyes shot wide open. He realized there truly was a friendly figure locked in combat far off in the direction of Eagle’s Beak Valley.
’So that’s what happened.’
This also explained why the seemingly impregnable Teleportation Gate had been destroyed, even after his own team had failed their mission.
’There’s a master on the field!’
’Since no one is leaving...’
He snatched up his radio, his voice thundering, "Then give them fire support, now! We can’t let that unsung hero feel abandoned!"
Wearing his tactical goggles, Captain Hong quickly set up his sniper rifle, locking onto the distant battlefield in Eagle’s Beak Valley through his high-powered scope.
’Huh?’
He took a closer look and was completely stunned.
He’d assumed the man was hopelessly trapped, but a closer look revealed the young man was dancing on a knife’s edge all by himself. He was in a desperate situation, surrounded by a crossfire of guns and a hail of Magic, yet he was frenetically harassing and slaughtering the enemy.
’Who the hell is this guy!?’
BANG!
With a flick of his wrist, he pulled the trigger. The Acceleration Rune Array in the rifle’s chamber instantly activated, and a single bullet struck the distant, spell-casting Warlock.
But then, something strange happened.
The shot, a direct hit to the heart, didn’t spray blood everywhere.
The Warlock shattered like a mirror, splitting into several identical copies.
’Damn it.’
He’d scored a direct hit, only to get a nasty surprise.
The man possessed Mirror Image Lv7. This Rune could be considered the Light Element version of the Invisibility Skill. At Lv7, it unlocked a Passive Divine Skill that distributed any damage taken among his mirror images.
It was a passive effect, giving the Spellcaster incredible room for error.
’A headshot would have been better.’
Captain Hong gritted his teeth. It was still shared damage. If he could just pour on enough, it would still work.
Just as he thought this.
He watched through his high-powered scope as a terrifying Wind Blade, like a high-speed, silvery-white spinning disc, shot out in a straight line. But the Mysterious Warlock escaped by "exiling" himself, temporarily leaving the plane of reality.
’This...’
To Captain Hong’s amazement, the attack did not miss.
For some reason, the silvery-white disc seemed to be pulled by an invisible force. It curved back in a wide arc, sweeping across the battlefield like the shadow of a scythe. The Warlock’s seven or eight clones hadn’t even had time to disperse before they were caught in its path.
Enveloped by a four-layered ripple, all were rendered equal. In an instant, all the clones disintegrated like paper effigies.
The Warlock’s true body had terrible positioning. By the time he realized the Wind Blade had changed course to kill him, it was too late. Taking the full, overwhelming force of the attack, he was sliced in half at the waist, leaving only a tattered substitute doll behind.
"Fuck!"
Many of the Skull Gang members were shaken. Even after losing much of its power, the Wind Blade continued to scream forward, slicing a huge chunk off a nearby cliff face.
"What kind of damage is that?"
It wasn’t just them; Captain Hong, watching from the sidelines, was utterly shocked as well.
The damage from that glass cannon was just absurd.
"Snipers in the rear, press forward immediately. Extend your range to Eagle’s Beak Valley."
Captain Hong realized what the reckless young man was up to. He clearly had a chance to escape, but he was staying to fight. He was obviously trying to wipe out this entire group of enemies.
There were an estimated 50-plus enemies in and around Eagle’s Beak Valley. His own elite Twelfth Squad was down to 14 members. Even counting the two mysterious, powerful allies, it was hard to say if they stood a fighting chance.
But their situation was already desperate, a one-in-ten chance of survival. What was the harm in risking their lives to fight alongside a kindred spirit?
The situation changed in a flash.
The Ashen Warlock and his twenty-odd followers, still reeling from the Teleportation Gate’s collapse, ignored the situation inside the valley. Seeing the opposing formation in disarray, they immediately charged forward to cut them down.
...
「Inside the valley.」
’Not bad.’
Su Chen was quite satisfied, having just successfully used his Telekinesis to alter the Wind Blade’s trajectory.
While it was hard to control after being accelerated with Telekinesis, and he was far from mastering it, he was still pleased that his first little experiment had been a success.
WHOOSH!
While his mind raced, he continued his hyper-mobile evasive maneuvers, dodging a hail of bullets.
After the Mysterious Warlock who specialized in Dark Gravity had temporarily "exiled" himself from reality, the fluctuations of the Light and Dark Particles swirling around Su Chen intensified once more.
A slight twist of his body created multiple afterimages, making it impossible to tell which was real.
He shot forward, his acceleration creating a spatial-flicker effect that made him blink through the air like a phantom, reappearing right in front of a Wind Mage.
"Ah..."
The woman’s face was a mask of panic. The white skull painted on her face twisted in fear, looking almost comical.
In that life-or-death moment, she instantly activated the Wind Element skill, ’Flowing Cloud.’ Her Dynamic Vision, movement speed, and attack speed all skyrocketed.
However.
Despite the incredible physical buffs she’d just gained, she didn’t even think of counterattacking with a Wind Blade. Instead, she tried to use her accelerated Flying Skill to get away fast.
