Martial Immortality: Starting with the Spirit Beast Scroll

Chapter 464 - 413: Boundary-Breaking Cultivator

Chapter 464: Chapter 413: Boundary-Breaking Cultivator

"Island Master, I’ll choose this Stabilizing Talisman!"

Zhao Lin announced his decision without hesitation.

Chu Hongtian was stunned for a moment but quickly recovered. He laughed and said, "How could I have overlooked the obvious? I forgot that you’re a Martial Cultivator. It’s to your advantage when neither side can use Magic."

He then mused, "Unfortunately, the Stabilizing Talisman only works for half a breath—the duration is still too short. Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider, my young friend?"

Zhao Lin remained firm. "Thank you for your advice, Island Master, but I’ll choose this one."

’Divine Sense-type Magic is extremely rare. Now that I’ve found some, I can’t let it slip away.’

Seeing that Zhao Lin had made up his mind, Chu Hongtian said no more and led him out of the stone chamber.

In a flash of movement, they were back in the main hall.

"It’s getting late. You should stay on the island today. I’ll have someone escort you back tomorrow."

Chu Hongtian called over a guard to lead Zhao Lin to the guesthouse to rest.

The guesthouse was not far from the camp where Zhao Lin had been stationed for his last mission. It was a cluster of stone houses built along a hillside.

The island’s accommodations were relatively spartan. The stone house was simply furnished, but it was spacious, sturdy, and came with a sizable courtyard.

Zhao Lin paced around the stone house for a bit, reviewing the day’s events. Confident that he hadn’t made any major blunders, he took out the Stabilizing Talisman.

’Another Tier Two Skill to add to my arsenal.’

The Mind Stabilizing Skill was different from other types of Magic. It couldn’t be cast on empty air, or it would have no effect.

Zhao Lin walked into the courtyard, looking around for a living creature to practice the skill on.

He searched around and found only some ants and beetles. He worried the Mind Stabilizing Skill wouldn’t work on insects that hadn’t yet developed a Spiritual Sense, so he left them alone.

CHIRP... CHIRP...

A few unfamiliar seabirds flew overhead.

Zhao Lin looked up, and an idea struck him. He grabbed a small handful of Spirit Rice from his storage bag and placed it on an empty patch of ground in the middle of the courtyard.

He then hid inside the house, clutching the Stabilizing Talisman, and waited patiently.

After a short while, a large bird resembling a seagull spotted the Spirit Rice on the ground. It landed in the courtyard, hopped over to the Spirit Rice, and began to peck at it.

Zhao Lin released his Divine Sense, locking onto the seabird. He steadied his mind, and with a sudden clench of his fist, crushed the talisman!

Casting the Stabilizing Talisman was incredibly fast. It instantly gathered his Divine Sense and shot a beam of purple light that struck the seabird squarely.

The seabird froze for a moment, a dazed look in its eyes.

At the same time, Zhao Lin felt a BOOM resound in his sea of consciousness, as if something had hammered him, and his very soul trembled.

After half a breath, everything returned to normal.

Zhao Lin immediately looked at his Spirit Cultivation Map. In the fourth slot, above the Qi Observation Skill, three words appeared: Mind Stabilizing Skill. Next to them was a four-petaled plum blossom.

’Skill capture successful!’

The Spirit Cultivation Map had already stored plenty of Spiritual Qi, so he didn’t need to use any Spirit Stones. Zhao Lin directed the map to release its Spiritual Qi and analyze the new Magic.

After a short while, the four petals turned from gray to red.

"Success!"

A smile appeared on Zhao Lin’s face as he appreciated the benefits of the Spirit Cultivation Map more and more.

When other people studied Magic, they first had to master the theory and principles of the skill, then repeatedly practice channeling their Spiritual Power, forming hand seals, and perfecting their casting timing.

The slightest mistake would prevent them from resonating with the Celestial Dao, and the Magic would fail.

’With the help of the Spirit Cultivation Map, I can skip all these tedious exercises and understand everything in an instant.’

The seabird in the courtyard had finished the Spirit Rice and was flapping its wings, preparing to leave.

Zhao Lin formed a hand seal and shouted in a low voice, "Mind Stabilizing Skill!"

He pointed a finger but discovered that while his Spiritual Power flowed normally, he couldn’t gather and project his Divine Sense.

"What’s going on?"

Zhao Lin frowned slightly, looking at the talisman fragments at his feet. He thought for a moment and understood the reason.

This was a common trait of Divine Sense-type Magic: it could only be used once in a short period. He had to wait for his Divine Sense to recover before casting it again.

’If I could cast it continuously and keep an opponent’s Divine Sense perpetually locked, how could the Celestial Dao maintain its balance?’

Divine Sense-type Magic was difficult to cultivate. The difficulty lay precisely here; there were no shortcuts.

Having figured this out, Zhao Lin was no longer in a hurry. He waited patiently for an hour.

When he felt fully recovered and wanted to test the skill again, he found that the seabird had already flown away.

He could only shake his head, walk into the courtyard, and put down another handful of Spirit Rice.

After a short while, three seabirds flapped their wings and landed in the courtyard. The previous seabird had actually returned, and it had brought two companions.

"Mind Stabilizing Skill!"

Zhao Lin smiled slightly, formed a hand seal, and a purple light shot from his fingertip, striking the seabird...

He practiced like this several times until nightfall, then returned to his room to rest.

「The next morning.」

Zhao Lin went to the Island Master’s Mansion to bid farewell.

A guard told Zhao Lin that Chu Hongtian had already given instructions for him to leave directly and that a Spiritual Vessel had been arranged.

Zhao Lin walked out of the mountain gate and boarded the vessel back to the pier, escorted by three of the island’s cultivators.

Dongfu District didn’t have a Merit Hall; only simple, personal requests could be posted there. To accept official missions, one had to make a trip to Dongfu County.

The Merit Hall in Dongfu County wasn’t large, but there were quite a few people inside.

With the bustling market district drawing people in, many cultivators came here to accept missions.

On the walls on both sides of the entrance, many newly posted missions were displayed, mostly seafaring tasks like escorting cargo ships and hunting sea beasts.

A dozen or so cultivators stood in front of the mission wall, talking in low voices.

Zhao Lin wasn’t here to pick a mission, so he walked directly into the main hall.

The steward of the Merit Hall was a portly old man who was leisurely sipping tea.

Zhao Lin stepped forward and cupped his fist. "Greetings, Steward. I’d like to accept mission Gui Zi No. 6."

"Gui Zi No. 6? Let me see."
