Chapter 474 - 418: Thunderstorm Night

Chapter 474: Chapter 418: Thunderstorm Night

"Brother Zhao, you... you killed two people from the Earth Dark Sect?"

Xu Zhongyong thought he had misheard and stammered out the question again.

Du Zhen and the others were also greatly shocked. The five of them had fought two, holding an absolute advantage, yet they had only managed to injure their opponents before they escaped. Zhao Lin, on the other hand, had fought two by himself and actually won a complete victory, killing them both!

Although it was unlikely Zhao Lin would lie about something like this, they still found it hard to believe.

Defeating and killing a Qi Refining Ninth Layer cultivator were two completely different concepts. The higher the cultivation, the more escape methods one had, especially in an environment like the bottom of the sea, which made it even more difficult!

"Follow me."

Zhao Lin didn’t explain further, simply leading them to where he had placed the spoils of war.

Eyebrow sabers, naginatas, a silver-light shield, storage pouches... all scattered carelessly on the ground. For a moment, the group was silent, their gazes toward Zhao Lin filled with awe.

’With such strength, it’s no wonder the Island Master took a liking to him and appointed him the leader of this mission,’ they all thought.

"Brother Zhao, your magic is profound and your methods are brilliant. I am thoroughly impressed!"

Du Zhen bowed slightly and solemnly cupped his fists toward Zhao Lin.

Although he didn’t say it outright, everyone could tell that he was now completely convinced.

"Fellow Daoist Du, you flatter me. The cultivators of the Earth Dark Sect are as cunning as wolves and foxes. It truly took me quite a bit of effort, and I nearly fell into a dangerous situation myself."

After a few humble words, Zhao Lin thought for a moment and asked, "What were the cultivation levels of the two Earth Dark Sect cultivators you encountered, and what kind of Magic did they use?"

"Both were at the Qi Refining Ninth Layer. They used several Water Element Skills, including the Dark Surge Skill, Flying Waterfall Skill, Water Spear Skill, Water Ring Skill... Oh, and also this."

Du Zhen reached out and snatched up a snow-white blade from the ground. "Those two also had this magic treasure. I was nearly hit by one during the chase."

"This item is called a Snow Blade. It’s an excellent weapon for sneak attacks and can even break through certain defensive Magic. You must be careful when fighting cultivators from the Earth Dark Sect."

Zhao Lin nodded and explained seriously.

As the two were talking, Chang Jianqiu picked up the silver-light shield from the ground. He toyed with it for a moment, unable to put it down, before placing it back where it was.

Zhao Lin noticed his interest in the item and asked with a smile, "Brother Chang, have you practiced the Water Shield Skill?"

Chang Jianqiu nodded. "I’ve practiced a shield skill, but it was the Wood Shield Skill."

Zhao Lin sized up Chang Jianqiu. Seeing that he didn’t seem to be carrying a defensive magic treasure, he said, "This silver-light shield offers excellent protection and is easy to carry. Brother Chang, you should take it and use it."

Chang Jianqiu was taken aback for a moment, then said hesitantly, "These are your spoils of war, Brother Zhao. Wouldn’t it be inappropriate for me to take it?"

Zhao Lin smiled faintly. "I haven’t practiced any shield skills, so I have no use for this magic treasure. Brother Chang, there’s no need to be polite. With a great enemy before us, every bit of extra strength gives us a better chance of completing the mission."

Chang Jianqiu figured that made sense. He said his thanks, took back the silver-light shield, wiped away the residual Divine Sense on it, then imprinted it with his own Divine Sense and began refining it on the spot.

Zhao Lin felt a pang of hunger. He looked around at the others and said, "You all must be tired. Rest here for a while. I’m going up to get some air; I’ll be back shortly."

Although his Spiritual Power was replenished, spending such a long time deep under the sea still left his body feeling uncomfortable. He needed to go to the surface to recover his stamina.

"Alright. This is the time when the Clam Demons are active. We can take the opportunity to gather a few Spirit Pearls. Brother Zhao, you be careful as well."

Du Zhen nodded in agreement and added a word of caution.

Zhao Lin cupped his fist, then floated up toward the sea’s surface.

Around dusk, the weather suddenly changed. A gale howled across the sea, and waves surged like mountains.

The sky shouldn’t have been completely dark yet, but heavy, leaden clouds blanketed the heavens, obscuring any trace of starlight or moonlight.

Lightning tore through the wall of clouds, casting flickering, ghastly green and black shadows across the sea’s surface. It looked as if a downpour was imminent.

Zhao Lin surfaced and looked around. Not far away, he saw a cluster of reefs of varying heights and glided over through the water.

He found a larger reef and leaped lightly onto it.

Then, he took some cooked Spirit Rice and dried Hidden Sword Cold Fish meat from his storage pouch, washing it down with fresh water from his waterskin as he ate.

RUMBLE...

After a few more claps of thunder, a torrential downpour began to fall from the sky.

After finishing his meal, Zhao Lin patted his stomach, stood up, and prepared to jump back into the sea.

Just then, a massive, Z-shaped bolt of lightning, like a slithering spirit serpent, flashed across the sky. In an instant, it illuminated the entire sea, making it as bright as day.

To his astonishment, Zhao Lin discovered two people standing on a nearby reef.

From their attire, they were clearly cultivators from the Earth Dark Sect!

One of them was tall and thin, with a hooked nose, thin lips, deep-set eyes, and slanted eyebrows, his face radiating a sinister aura.

The other was a cultivator in his forties, with a burly build and a dark, semi-circular birthmark on his left cheek.

Zhao Lin immediately froze, his eyes locked on the figures opposite him.

If the two cultivators’ faces hadn’t been so clear, he might have even thought it was an illusion.

Both of them were members from the Earth Dark Sect’s sea vessel. Zhao Lin remembered the tall, thin man’s cultivation was at the Peak of Qi Refining, though he wasn’t one of the trio of two men and one woman.

The two Earth Dark Sect cultivators also spotted Zhao Lin and looked over in surprise.

The lightning lasted for but a breath, and the world plunged back into darkness.

Zhao Lin stood motionless, his mind racing.

’One at the Peak of Qi Refining, one at the Qi Refining Ninth Layer. Their strength should be greater than the two I killed before.’

’Are there any other Earth Dark Sect cultivators nearby?’

’Should I go up and fight them?’

’Fight them on the water, or under it?’

A series of questions flooded his mind.

After the flash of lightning came a deafening crack of thunder.

Zhao Lin was suddenly jolted to his senses. When paths cross on a narrow road, the brave one wins. Since he had run into them, he couldn’t afford to hesitate.
