Chapter 478: Chapter 420: Ji Zhang
Sen Cheng lay motionless. Zhao Lin didn’t rush forward, instead standing his ground and waiting a moment.
Only when he saw a wisp of an Essence Soul rise from the corpse did he confirm the man was truly dead.
Walking closer, he used his blade to slice open Sen Cheng’s outer robe, revealing a python-patterned soft armor underneath, covered in runes.
"Just as I thought!"
Zhao Lin nodded. It was just as he’d suspected; the man did have a piece of defensive magic treasure.
Without a second thought, he ripped the soft armor off, took off his own outer robe, and put the armor on.
He moved his body around a bit and found that it was a perfect fit, as if it had been tailor-made for him.
Zhao Lin recalled Sen Cheng’s earlier movements and tried channeling his Spiritual Power into the Wood Talisman Armor.
In an instant, a green shield of light enveloped him. The more Spiritual Power he poured in, the more solid the shield became.
’Not bad. It’s mine now!’
Zhao Lin was overjoyed. The only drawback was that the armor had been stabbed in the center, damaging a couple of the runes. Its effectiveness was surely diminished, and he realized he’d have to find someone to repair it later.
Other than the soft armor, a brow blade, and a storage pouch, Sen Cheng had nothing else on him.
Zhao Lin searched the stout cultivator’s corpse again and was surprised to find a first-grade Spirit Pearl, which he unceremoniously pocketed.
Once he’d finished looting, he set fire to the two corpses.
Next, Zhao Lin glanced in the direction the talisman had fled, recalling the lanky cultivator’s dying words.
"Lord Ji Zhang will definitely avenge me!"
’Who is Ji Zhang?’
’That talisman was likely for communication, either returning to some Communication Tower or to a specific person.’
Unsure of the talisman’s destination, Zhao Lin grew wary. He gathered the collected items and quickly left the scene.
After the long chase and fight, he was now far from Shen Shui Beach.
As Zhao Lin moved stealthily through the water, he observed his surroundings and got a rough idea of his current position.
’This is the southern part of Yongdeng Ansha, not far from Room Fire Beach.’
Zhao Lin felt his Spiritual Power running low and decided to rest for a while. Recalling the Sea Map, he swam toward Room Fire Beach.
Before long, a shimmering shoal appeared before him.
Room Fire Beach was home to many luminous life forms, such as the light-emitting Room Fire Grass and Blue Light Algae, as well as vampire squids, Axe Fish, Comb Jellies, and Multi-Scaled Insects.
The shoal was filled with specks of fluorescent light, like countless fireflies dancing within it, hence its name.
Zhao Lin swam into the shimmering shoal, stopping near an underwater mechanism. He took out the Spirit Pearl and began circulating his energy to recover his Spiritual Power.
...
At the maritime border between the Earth Dark Sect and the Chenghua Sect, a pale blue talisman traveled through the water.
As if drawn by some unseen force, the talisman suddenly changed direction, flying toward an abandoned underwater volcano.
This talisman was called a Water Returning Talisman. As long as a person’s aura was imprinted on it beforehand, once activated, it would seek out its owner within a hundred-li radius.
The Water Returning Talisman’s function was identical to a Communication Talisman’s, with the sole difference being that it could be used underwater.
PLAP!
The Water Returning Talisman was caught between two fingers.
"Sen Cheng?"
Ji Zhang glanced at the damaged talisman and muttered to himself.
Sen Cheng and Ji Zhang were from the same Spirit Dao Institute. Sen Cheng was technically Ji Zhang’s martial uncle. Before the mission, Ji Zhang had given Sen Cheng a Water Returning Talisman, telling him to notify him if he found Zhao Lin.
Unfortunately, Sen Cheng had been greedy for glory and hadn’t notified Ji Zhang at the first opportunity, only remembering to do so at the moment of his death.
Ji Zhang unfolded the damaged talisman and read the Divine Sense imprint within. He sneered, "He picks now to call for help? I’m afraid it’s too late for that!"
With that, a blue flame ignited in his palm, burning the talisman to ash.
He then formed a spell with his hands and uttered in a low voice, "Wave Riding Skill!"
His body shot forward like an arrow.
Ji Zhang’s speed was immense, yet the seawater remained undisturbed. Even the nearby Fish Demons failed to notice him.
In no time, he arrived at the spot where Zhao Lin had fought the two cultivators.
After scanning the area, Ji Zhang couldn’t help but let out a soft "Hm?"
’The auras are very strong. The fight ended less than ten minutes ago.’
’There are three auras here, but only one left. That means, besides Sen Cheng, another cultivator from my sect was here...’
’...and Zhao Lin killed them both!’
Ji Zhang’s expression darkened. He muttered to himself, "I’d like to see what you’re made of!"
Unleashing his Wave Riding Skill, he followed Zhao Lin’s aura, tracking him all the way to the edge of Room Fire Beach.
Upon entering the shimmering shoal, Ji Zhang slowed down.
Zhao Lin’s aura guided him, so he didn’t have to worry about the underwater mechanisms. Still, he was a cautious man by nature, and he scanned his surroundings with his Divine Sense as he advanced.
’Who’s there?’
Zhao Lin, who was meditating, snapped his eyes open, a sense of unease rising in his heart.
’The newcomer’s aura is well-hidden, and their movements are silent. Not one of ours!’
Zhao Lin extended his five fingers, forming a Fan Fall Seal.
’He actually discovered me.’
Ji Zhang sensed the fluctuations of the Dharma Seal and paused for a moment. Deciding to drop the pretense, he landed openly on the seabed and strode toward Zhao Lin.
In the faint glow of the Blue Light Algae, Zhao Lin saw a short Earth Dark Sect cultivator—one of the two men from the group with the woman—and his heart skipped a beat.
The short cultivator had an ordinary face and looked unremarkable, yet he gave off an unfathomable and deeply oppressive aura.
"You’re Ji Zhang?"
A strong sense of danger washed over Zhao Lin, but he asked the question deliberately, testing the waters.
"That’s right, it is I. If you had any manners, you’d add the word ’Senior’ before that."
Ji Zhang’s mind raced for a moment. He guessed that Sen Cheng must have been the one who revealed his name to Zhao Lin, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
