Chapter 274: Chapter 251: Fame Spreads Far and Wide
More than half a year had passed since the Subspace first appeared.
During that time, the allied forces had invested countless personnel and resources, yet they had failed to destroy even a single spatial node.
Out of options, the allied forces had decided to publicly recruit elites from across the continent, offering enormous rewards that tempted countless powerhouses.
By now, the question of when the first spatial node would be destroyed had become a matter of paramount importance, closely watched by everyone in Darkness Fortress and even across the entire Dawn Continent.
So when news that a spatial node had been destroyed broke out, it spread throughout Darkness Fortress in less than half a day and was rapidly disseminating to the outside world.
And as the news traveled, the name Anton Silver Moon once again entered the public eye.
In the battle to destroy the spatial node, he had single-handedly slain over thirty Giant Dragons, including four high-ranking dragons that had already reached the veteran Legend realm.
He had even joined forces with Valin Fire-Forged to slay the Green Abyss Dragon Yilad.
That was a royal Giant Dragon at the peak Legendary Tier!
Such a combat record was arguably the most brilliant since the Subspace first appeared.
Although everyone knew that Valin Fire-Forged was the main force who actually killed the Azure Abyss Dragon, no one would underestimate Anton’s strength because of it.
The ability to contend with a peak Legendary Giant Dragon in a frontal confrontation and hold out until the end of the battle—that strength alone spoke for itself.
As more details about Anton were gradually revealed, more and more people were left in shock.
A Legendary Tier powerhouse under two hundred years old.
He had only ascended to the Legendary Tier a little over a decade ago.
Either of these two accolades, taken alone, would be enough to make the entire continent take notice.
Yet now, both were concentrated in a single Elf.
It was simply unbelievable!
In an instant, the name Anton Silver Moon became renowned throughout the Dawn Continent.
The name of the Fallen Dragon Sword Saint was known to all.
...
While the outside world was in a clamorous uproar, a certain area in the southeast corner of the fortress presented a completely different scene.
The area was tightly enveloped by multiple layers of High Tier protective Arrays. Looking from the outside, one could only see a faint ripple shimmering in the air.
The Arrays blocked out most of the sound and dust, isolating the area from all the turmoil and clamor both inside and outside the fortress.
Stepping into this area was like entering another world.
It was quiet and orderly, with everything operating in a methodical fashion.
Hundreds of supply crates were stacked neatly in an open space. Handwritten labels on their surfaces indicated the contents, quantity, origin, and date of storage.
More than a dozen robed Elves were moving back and forth between the crates.
Each held a thick ledger, checking the crates one by one with their heads bowed, scribbling on the paper with quill pens.
Occasionally, someone would stop, look up at the translucent Magic Power screen hovering in mid-air, and compare the endlessly scrolling entries to confirm that the work they had just completed was correct.
This was the logistics department.
The most important area in Darkness Fortress, second only to the command center.
Alicia was sitting at a long table covered with inventories, her head bowed as she checked the supply entries item by item.
Her emerald-green hair was loosely tied back, with a few stray strands falling from her temples, swaying gently with the movement of her head.
An aura of quiet concentration surrounded her, as if the entire world had shrunk to the confines of the long table before her.
The complex entries, tedious numbers, and cumbersome verification processes flowed as smoothly and naturally as water under her management.
Although the turmoil outside had nearly turned the entire North District upside down, this small space she occupied seemed completely isolated from the world.
The only sounds that reached her ears were the deliberately light footsteps of the Elves moving between the crates and the occasional rustle of pages turning.
Just then, the sound of footsteps suddenly came from outside, breaking the tranquility.
Alicia didn’t look up, her quill continuing to move across the paper.
Only when the footsteps stopped on the other side of the long table and a familiar shadow fell upon the inventory she was checking did she pause her pen and raise her eyes.
The familiar smiling face of Grant came into view.
He seemed to have just come from the Subspace, still covered in a bit of dust, but he appeared to be in a very good mood.
"What brings you over here today?"
A faint hint of surprise flickered in Alicia’s eyes.
Unlike her, Grant was one of the top combatants attacking the Subspace.
He usually spent most of his time inside the Subspace.
Except for the last time he came to find her to welcome Anton together, he almost never visited the logistics department.
Grant casually found a chair and sat down before saying with a smile, "The outside world is in an uproar, and here you are, acting as if nothing’s happened."
Alicia understood what he meant and shook her head slightly. "Even though we’ve conquered Darkness Fortress, the allied forces’ supplies are still very tight. Many things have to be procured from all over the continent and then consolidated here."
She paused, her finger lightly tapping the thick stack of inventories on the table.
"I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t had a moment to rest. How would I have the energy to pay attention to what’s happening outside?"
Grant looked resigned and sighed. "You’re a Legendary Tier powerhouse, after all. Don’t you think it’s a waste of your talents to be here in the logistics department doing this kind of work?"
"I don’t like fighting," Alicia said, her expression serene. "But the war against the Dragon Race concerns the entire continent, and I must do my part. Other than combat, coordinating supplies is the only work that suits me."
Grant nodded and didn’t try to persuade her further, merely sighing to himself.
’Alicia’s temperament hasn’t changed. Back when they were in the Fallen Dragon Association, she was always the one in charge of logistics.’
’It was because of her that the Fallen Dragon Association was able to operate smoothly until the outbreak of the Dragon Slaying War.’
’It wasn’t that Alicia’s personality was bad, it just wasn’t very suitable for her current position.’
"You still haven’t said what’s happening outside," Alicia said, deliberately changing the subject.
Grant collected his thoughts, a smile returning to his lips. "Just a short while ago, the allied forces successfully destroyed the first spatial node."
Alicia’s expression shifted slightly. Now she was genuinely surprised.
She was well aware of how much the entire allied command had been vexed by their persistent failure to overcome a single spatial node.
To finally have a breakthrough was undoubtedly a huge blessing.
One could only imagine how excited the allied forces must be.
With the first spatial node destroyed, the difficulty of the subsequent attacks would decrease.
This would undoubtedly be a massive boost to the allied forces’ morale.
"That is good news." After a pause, Alicia asked, "Who led the charge?"
"Valin Fire-Forged."
The name Grant mentioned was one Alicia had expected.
After all, anyone capable of leading the destruction of a spatial node had to be a peak Legendary Powerhouse.
And there weren’t many peak Legendary Powerhouses in Darkness Fortress; every single one was famous.
But Grant immediately changed the subject with a grin. "However, someone’s performance in this operation was particularly brilliant. Take a guess who."
Alicia and Grant had known each other for years and she was very familiar with him. Seeing his expression, her heart skipped a beat. A tall, slender figure flashed through her mind, and the name slipped out:
"Anton?"
Now it was Grant’s turn to be stunned.
He shot Alicia a surprised glance, seemingly not expecting her to guess so quickly, then nodded. "You got it."
An expression of unconcealed admiration appeared on his face. "Ignatius was there at the time. According to him, Anton took down over thirty Giant Dragons all by himself. And at the end, during the siege against the Azure Abyss Dragon, it was he who created the opening that allowed Lord Valin to seize the chance, severely wound the Azure Abyss Dragon, and secure victory."
Even with Alicia’s calm temperament, she couldn’t help but be taken aback by this.
An ordinary Legendary Tier powerhouse would find it difficult to kill even one Giant Dragon.
Let alone taking down over thirty of them.
But what truly stunned her was that Anton and Valin had joined forces to kill the Azure Abyss Dragon.
Alicia knew exactly how significant this achievement was.
"It’s only been a little over a decade since Anton ascended to the Legendary Tier, yet he’s already grown this powerful."
Alicia couldn’t help but sigh in amazement.
She had known from the beginning that Anton’s potential was unfathomable, and that he would sooner or later step onto a grander stage and become a top-tier powerhouse who would make the whole continent take notice.
But she never expected him to achieve that goal so quickly.
"Tell me about it." Grant’s expression was complex. "Even I can’t say for sure that I could beat Anton now."
His tone carried a subtle sense of wonder.
When he had first met Anton, he had mostly seen him as a junior worth befriending.
He never thought Anton would catch up to him so fast.
The two fell silent for a moment, each lost in their own thoughts.
After a while, Grant’s expression of admiration faded, replaced by a more serious one. "There’s something else. That guy Ignatius is tied up right now, so he asked me to tell you that Alvin seems to have gotten the idea of befriending Anton. He told me to tell you to... keep an eye on it."
At the mention of Alvin’s name, Alicia frowned instinctively.
It was not at all surprising that Alvin would want to win Anton over.
The value Anton had now demonstrated was enough to make any top-tier faction want to recruit him.
Not to mention that Anton himself was an Elf.
Alicia had never been fond of factional struggles.
She would rather spend her time checking supply inventories than get involved in those treacherous schemes.
But when you were part of the game, you often had no choice in the matter.
She could choose not to participate actively, but she couldn’t stop others from seeing her as a player.
After a moment, Alicia’s brow smoothed, and she nodded calmly.
"I understand. Thank Ignatius for me."
Grant glanced at her and gave a slight nod. "As long as you’re aware."
With that, he waved his hand and turned to leave with a flourish.
Alicia’s gaze returned to the documents on her table.
She reached out and opened one of the ledgers. Its pages recorded the inventory of a recent batch of supplies traded from the Silver Moon Clan.
The familiar figure flashed through her mind again, and she felt a little dazed.
Without her realizing it, that kinsman who had walked out of a remote forest had already reached a height where he could stir up the entire continent.
’I wonder how much stronger he’ll become in the future?’
