Chapter 248: Chapter 248: Upset Stomach

Exiting the Storage Space, Xu Qingsui called Apocalypse over.

"Apocalypse, I have something good for you!"

She placed the elixir in front of it. Apocalypse sniffed it carefully before its eyes lit up, and it quickly swallowed the pill. Xu Qingsui raised an eyebrow. This little guy actually knew how to tell good stuff from bad.

However, right after eating the elixir, Apocalypse’s fur suddenly stood on end. It arched its back and let out continuous growls. Xu Qingsui’s expression changed. Did it eat something it shouldn’t have?

Her heart tightened. She hurriedly stepped forward, wanting to take Apocalypse to get checked out by someone. But Apocalypse, who was usually so clingy, acted completely out of character. Not only did it dodge her grasp, but it also leaped straight out the window and ran off.

"Apocalypse! Where are you going?"

Alarmed, Xu Qingsui rushed out after it, only to run into Shen Yan and Lu Jingyu at the door, the tension between the two men thick enough to cut with a knife.

Shortly after Xu Qingsui and the others had left earlier, Zhang Yuqing woke up, completely devoid of her recent memories. Seeing this, Shen Yan simply lied to her, saying that Shen Zhiqiu had gone out and wouldn’t be back for a long time. Zhang Yuqing believed him and went back to enjoying her life as Mrs. Shen. Since she had forgotten everything, Shen Yan didn’t stick around, lest his unusual behavior raise her suspicions again.

After leaving the Shen family villa, he returned to his dormitory. Having gone through so much, his desire to have Xu Qingsui had only grown stronger. He and Lu Jingyu had agreed to compete fairly, and confessing his feelings was part of that fair competition. He needed to make his intentions clear right away. Perhaps Xu Qingsui didn’t dislike him to begin with and would naturally accept him. Even if she rejected him, he had nothing to lose. On the contrary, once she knew how he felt, it would be much easier to speak and act around her in the future.

But just as he arrived downstairs at the dorm building, Lu Jingyu stepped out of a camper van.

Seeing Shen Yan rushing back, Lu Jingyu easily guessed it had something to do with Xu Qingsui. He hadn’t even confessed his own feelings yet; how could he let Shen Yan beat him to the punch?

The two men were locked in a standoff for a moment, completely unexpecting Xu Qingsui to appear on her own. Spotting her, they exchanged a glance and immediately scrambled to be the first to confess. However, Xu Qingsui’s mind was entirely on Apocalypse right now. She had no time for either of them.

"Whatever it is, we’ll talk later! Apocalypse suddenly ran off, and I need to go find it."

Without giving them a chance to speak, she dropped those words and chased after the cat. Seeing her acting so frantic, the two men exchanged another look and had no choice but to turn and follow her.

Apocalypse was incredibly fast. Coupled with the brief delay caused by running into Lu Jingyu and Shen Yan, the cat was already long gone. Still, relying purely on her sixth sense, Xu Qingsui managed to track it down.

There was a pond in the corner of the experimental zone. When Xu Qingsui arrived, she saw a little head popping out of the water. Logically, cats hated water, but Apocalypse was currently soaking in the pond, looking as if it were actually enjoying it. The only problem was the continuous stream of black bubbles rising from beneath it, slowly dyeing the entire pond black.

Xu Qingsui stopped in her tracks, frowning at the cat. She couldn’t understand what was going on. Lu Jingyu and Shen Yan caught up, both frowning at the sight, equally clueless. But since this was Shen Yan’s turf, he eventually stepped forward to ask, "Qing Sui, what’s wrong with Apocalypse?"

Xu Qingsui couldn’t clearly explain it herself, so she simply told them about feeding Apocalypse the elixir, hoping that maybe the two of them would know the reason.

Upon hearing her words, they both stared at her with exaggerated expressions.

"Elixirs are incredibly precious right now, and you actually fed them to a cat! And a whole handful at that!"

The two were utterly speechless. They could never bring themselves to do such a thing.

Xu Qingsui smiled sheepishly before continuing, "Anyway, right after I fed it the elixir, it suddenly ran out and ended up like this."

Hearing this, the two men looked back at the pond. Apocalypse was still floating there, and by now, the entire body of water had almost turned pitch-black.

After a moment of thought, Lu Jingyu was the first to speak. "Animals have a natural instinct for these things. They can tell what’s safe to eat and what’s not. Besides, Apocalypse isn’t an ordinary cat. It should be fine."

"Looking at its condition, I’d say the elixir is flushing the impurities out of its body. Let’s just wait and see," Shen Yan chimed in—how could he let Lu Jingyu take all the spotlight?

Hearing their words, Xu Qingsui recalled how Apocalypse had acted right before eating the elixir and felt much more reassured. Still, seeing it floating in the water kept her worried, so she just stared at it in silence. Since she had gone quiet, neither of the men dared to disturb her. The three of them simply stood guard by the pond in silence.

After a two-hour standstill, Apocalypse finally showed a reaction. It opened its eyes, realized it was soaking in water, and let out a few meows. Hearing Xu Qingsui calling from the shore, it paddled its paws and swam to the edge.

Disregarding the fact that it was soaking wet and covered in the black substance it had secreted, Xu Qingsui scooped Apocalypse directly into her arms. Only then did she realize that its strength had grown significantly. She understood that this must be the effect of the elixir.

"You scared me to death! Thank goodness you’re alright. Let’s get you back and washed up."

Apocalypse meowed twice in her embrace, letting her carry it all the way back to the dorm building. Lu Jingyu and Shen Yan silently followed the girl and the cat back to her room. However, Xu Qingsui was so focused on Apocalypse that she completely ignored the two men, which made things quite awkward.

But neither of them cared about the awkwardness; terrified that the other might seize the initiative, they simply planted themselves on the sofa and waited.

It wasn’t until she finished cleaning up Apocalypse that she finally noticed their presence.

"You two are still here?"

Her words made them wince inwardly. To be ignored and then called out on it was simply too embarrassing.

"Since you’re both here, there’s something I need to tell you."

She had already decided to leave and needed to let them know. Since they were both present, it saved her the trouble of finding another time to do so.

Hearing her tone, the two men instantly sat up straight. These two outstanding figures currently looked just like two obedient elementary school students in front of her.

"I’ve stayed here long enough..."

As soon as she spoke, Lu Jingyu furrowed his brows. Having experienced this once before, he pretty much knew what she was going to say. Shen Yan also frowned, a bad premonition welling up in his heart.

"I’m planning to leave. Thank you for looking after me all this time."
