The Frail Guide Who Devoured an Entire Pollution Zone

Chapter 255: Su Qingyan

While those two headed toward Zone 49 together, Lu Jingyu and his two companions arrived in Zone 34. Upon learning what had transpired there—especially that Li Xianxu had left with Xu Qingsui—the three of them grew anxious.

“Did we just gain another rival in love?” one of them asked.

“That Li Xianxu is up to no good,” another warned. “Hurry up and go after them. We can’t let him get his way.”

The trio badmouthed Li Xianxu without a second thought right in front of his own subordinates before hurrying toward Zone 49.

After Xu Qingsui and Li Xianxu arrived in Zone 49, she immediately began searching for her Contract target, just as she always did. Following the map’s guidance, she quickly located the man, who was busy working in the infirmary.

Li Xianxu had been quite curious about who Xu Qingsui was looking for. When he finally saw her target, he immediately blurted out the man’s name. “Su Qingyan?”

“You know him?”

Li Xianxu shot her a sideways glance. “If there’s something I want to know, I’ll find a way to know it.”

Xu Qingsui curled her lips. She thought he was entirely too full of himself.

“He’s a renowned medical prodigy,” Li Xianxu explained. “Rumor has it that he can bring the dead back to life and regrow flesh on bare bones. Hell, if he wants to, he can even snatch lives right out of King Yama’s hands.”

Xu Qingsui looked surprised. That was remarkably high praise.

Amidst her shock, a group of people rushed into the infirmary carrying several wounded individuals. The clinic was already packed to the brim, and this sudden influx made it feel overwhelmingly crowded. Even with numerous medical staff assisting Su Qingyan, they were still struggling to keep up with the sheer volume of patients.

“Aren’t you going to help?” Li Xianxu’s voice suddenly rang in her ear. He was under the impression that Xu Qingsui had healed him in the dungeon before, so he asked casually.

Xu Qingsui thought of her newly acquired abilities. Initially, she hadn’t wanted to expose them so easily, but since he brought it up, she cast her reservations aside. She immediately strode into the infirmary and began using her healing powers to treat the injured.

It didn’t take long for Su Qingyan to notice her sudden presence. Seeing her employ such a unique method to heal the wounded, he looked mildly surprised but quickly returned to his normal composure and resumed his own grueling work.

Thanks to Xu Qingsui’s help, the patients’ conditions rapidly stabilized. Only then did Su Qingyan find a moment to catch his breath. He walked over to Xu Qingsui, his face full of gratitude.

“Thank you for helping with the wounded just now. However, I don’t believe we’ve met before? And your healing abilities are quite unique!”

Xu Qingsui smiled. “I just arrived in Zone 49. When I saw the situation in here, I just wanted to do something to help.”

She had barely finished her brief introduction when someone sprinted in from outside.

“Doctor Su, the dungeon has opened! Please come help immediately!”

Su Qingyan’s expression shifted drastically. Without another word, he grabbed his medical kit and chased after the messenger. Seeing this, Xu Qingsui and Li Xianxu hurried after them.

A towering gate made of interwoven vines stood in the middle of the street. Next to it was a signboard, similarly formed out of vines.

[To the Brave and Fearless Warriors: 1. Countless restless souls slumber within the forest. They long to trap others to keep them company. For your own safety, do not respond to them. 2. Though butterflies are beautiful, they are a beautiful danger. If you see a butterfly, turn around immediately. Do not let this beautiful danger harm you. 3. Any flower that does not grow in the soil has a reason for existing. Do not destroy them. 4. Once you pass through the forest, you will find new hope.]

The dungeon had already opened. By the looks of it, it was a jungle theme. Su Qingyan exchanged a few words with the guards on duty before preparing to enter the gate. However, Xu Qingsui and Li Xianxu were stopped by the guards since they were unfamiliar faces.

Seeing that Su Qingyan was about to step through the gate, Xu Qingsui couldn’t waste time explaining herself. She called out to him directly, “Doctor Su! Us too!”

Hearing her shout, Su Qingyan glanced back. Because of her help in treating the wounded earlier, he had a highly favorable impression of her.

Seeing his attention on her, Xu Qingsui hurriedly added, “Doctor Su, we can help too.”

Su Qingyan wasn’t entirely sure why, but despite having just met her, he felt an inexplicable sense of trust toward her. Meeting her determined gaze, he finally nodded.

Only then did the guards step aside, allowing Xu Qingsui and Li Xianxu to enter the dungeon.

“I’ll have to trouble you, then,” Su Qingyan instructed. “But the situation inside is complicated, so please prioritize your own safety first.”

After his brief warning, the group crossed the threshold into the dungeon together.

Zone 49’s Survival Team had entered a step ahead of them. The trio had barely caught up when they stumbled upon several injured team members who had been left behind to wait for rescue. Su Qingyan rushed forward to tend to them, and Xu Qingsui immediately followed suit to assist with the treatment. Acting as her personal guard, Li Xianxu stayed firmly by Xu Qingsui’s side, keeping a vigilant watch over their surroundings.

Once the injured members were stabilized, the three of them continued advancing.

Suddenly, a series of faint whispers echoed in Xu Qingsui’s ears. The murmurs were too weak for her to make out clearly. She was about to focus and listen closer, but the dungeon’s rules abruptly flashed in her mind.

Just as she was about to warn the others, Su Qingyan was suddenly sent flying backward. A thick vine had wrapped tightly around his waist, violently dragging him away.

Quick as lightning, Li Xianxu sprang into action, managing to sever the hold and save Su Qingyan. But even with Li Xianxu’s timely intervention, the sharp thorns on the vine had already pierced Su Qingyan’s skin.

The puncture wounds were already turning black and oozing pus. By the time he hit the ground, Su Qingyan was drifting in and out of consciousness.

Her expression falling, Xu Qingsui frantically began to heal him. Although she managed to purge the toxins from his body, Su Qingyan still slipped into a berserk state.

At that moment, the vines launched another attack. As if furious at Xu Qingsui for meddling, they shot straight toward her.

Standing guard beside her, Li Xianxu naturally wasn’t going to just stand by and watch her get hurt. But the writhing vines seemed endless, splitting into several new branches that aimed squarely at Xu Qingsui. Under such relentless pressure, she couldn’t spare the focus to mentally soothe Su Qingyan and bring him out of his berserk state.

Left with no other choice, she hurled several fireballs. Once the flames subdued the flora, she took the initiative to devour the source of contamination within the vines. Only then did she turn her attention back to soothing Su Qingyan’s chaotic mind.

While fending off the remaining threats, Li Xianxu took notice of Xu Qingsui’s methods, his eyes flashing with utter astonishment. He realized that this woman was truly full of surprises.

Su Qingyan soon regained consciousness. After hastily thanking Xu Qingsui, he urgently wanted to track down the rest of the Survival Team.

After pushing through the dense jungle foliage, they finally spotted the missing team members. However, the members’ eyes were completely glazed over. As if totally deaf to their calls, they were slowly trudging deeper into the heart of the forest.

Burning with anxiety, Su Qingyan desperately tried to chase after them. But just as he moved, Xu Qingsui suddenly threw out an arm to block his path.
