My 100th Rebirth a day before the Apocalypse

Chapter 1009 - 1007 The Clash Getting More Destructive

Chapter 1009: Chapter 1007 The Clash Getting More Destructive

Not far from their position, a massive black wolf was locked in a fierce battle against a gigantic porcupine.

Both were clearly mutated beasts, and not ordinary ones.

The black wolf had awakened a wind elemental ability. Its body had grown to an enormous size, easily larger than a horse, with dense, dark fur rippling under the currents of wind that constantly swirled around it.

Even its mane had thickened, forming a protective layer around its neck like a lion’s, shielding one of its most vulnerable points, the throat. When it moved, it was almost unreal. Its speed had increased to an extreme degree, its body gliding across the ground as if riding the wind itself. Each dash left faint afterimages in the air, making its movements difficult to track as it effortlessly evaded incoming attacks.

Its opponent, the mutated porcupine, was no less terrifying.

Its body had grown abnormally large and round, like a living iron boulder covered in spikes. Though slightly smaller than the wolf in overall size, it radiated a heavy, oppressive presence. The creature had awakened a metal-based ability, and its quills were no longer mere spikes; they were hardened like forged spears, gleaming with a cold metallic sheen.

Every time it attacked, hundreds of quills shot out in a deadly barrage, raining down like arrows. Each spike was as thick as two fingers and nearly half a yard long, capable of piercing through trees and embedding deeply into the earth with terrifying force.

However, its metal ability came with a drawback.

The porcupine’s body had become incredibly heavy and slow, sacrificing speed for overwhelming defense. Its hide was as hard as solid metal, turning its entire body into a near-impenetrable fortress.

Meanwhile, the mutated wolf relied on its superior agility to dominate the flow of battle. It weaved through the storm of quills with fluid precision, occasionally retaliating by slashing the air with compressed wind blades that sliced toward the porcupine’s armored body.

Wind against metal.

Speed against defense.

Neither side was able to gain a decisive advantage.

The wolf couldn’t easily break through the porcupine’s iron-like defense, while the porcupine struggled to land a clean hit on the wind-enhanced wolf. Their attacks clashed repeatedly, shaking the surrounding forest and knocking down trees in the process.

But as the battle dragged on, the strain was beginning to show.

Their movements, though still fierce, were gradually losing their initial explosiveness. Both mutated beasts were growing visibly fatigued, their relentless exchange slowly turning into a battle of endurance rather than sheer power.

Kisha watched the battle with clear amusement flickering in her eyes.

To her, this wasn’t merely a clash between two mutated animals; it was an opportunity.

In her mind, she was already evaluating them as potential assets. Both the wind-attributed black wolf and the metal-attributed porcupine possessed rare awakened abilities and impressive combat potential. If properly tamed, they would be invaluable. She could even assign them to her core members first, allowing them to serve as powerful companions in future operations.

From the very beginning, the thought of failing to capture them had never even crossed her mind.

What she was waiting for was the perfect moment.

It was obvious that the two mutated animals were fighting over territorial dominance, their attacks filled with instinctive hostility and possessiveness. If she were to intervene prematurely and attempt to subdue them now, there was a high chance they would temporarily abandon their rivalry and turn their aggression toward her instead. To them, a suddenly appearing human intruding upon their territorial duel would be a far greater threat.

And two high-level mutated beasts joining forces, even instinctively, would be far more troublesome to handle.

So patience was the smarter choice.

Kisha intended to wait until both beasts had exhausted a significant portion of their strength and abilities. Once their stamina and resistance dropped, subduing them would become far easier and far less risky. At that point, she could swiftly capture them and transfer them directly into her territory before they had any chance to escape or retaliate.

After that, she would leave the taming process to Mike.

If Mike managed to tame them successfully, it would be excellent news and a major step forward for her long-term plans. Creatures with such awakened abilities would greatly strengthen her forces. And if he couldn’t tame them immediately, then she would simply keep them restrained within her territory while gradually figuring out a way to domesticate them, all while continuing to train and improve Mike’s taming capabilities.

"Right, 008. If I remember correctly, there are Beast Taming Ropes from the Murim World in the system store, aren’t there?" Kisha asked inwardly, already preparing a contingency in case her initial plan didn’t go as smoothly as expected.

"Yes, Host," 008 replied promptly in her mind. "Each Beast Taming Rope is a consumable item designed for a single beast. Once used, it binds and suppresses the target to aid in the taming process."

Kisha’s gaze remained fixed on the distant battlefield as she answered calmly, "Then prepare to purchase two. Just in case Mike fails to tame them later."

"Understood, Host. Preparations will be made," 008 responded obediently.

From the system’s perspective, this was hardly a loss. Purchasing items meant more system point circulation, which, in a way, benefited it as well. Still, 008 was not reckless enough to spend Kisha’s system points unnecessarily. Those points could become life-saving resources in truly critical situations, and wasting them prematurely would be a foolish decision.

So instead of buying the Beast Taming Ropes immediately, 008 simply queued them as a ready option, prepared to acquire them the moment Kisha gave the final command.

After all, there was still a high possibility that Mike would succeed on his own.

Wasn’t the entire purpose of venturing out to capture mutated beasts to test his taming ability in the first place?

Kisha thought along the same lines. After informing 008 of her backup plan, she quietly refocused her attention on the battle unfolding in the distance.

Another sharp gust tore through the forest.

Several more trees collapsed in succession as a wind blade released by the mutated wolf sliced through the air with violent precision. The attack struck the porcupine’s metal-like body, only to be deflected with a harsh metallic screech. The redirected wind blades shot off-course and slammed straight into the surrounding trees, cleaving thick trunks cleanly in half as if they were nothing more than fragile sticks.

One after another, towering trees fell with heavy crashes, their branches snapping and leaves scattering across the forest floor.

Seeing this, Kisha couldn’t help but inwardly sigh.

She genuinely hoped the two mutated animals would tire themselves out sooner rather than later.

In the apocalypse, trees were no longer just part of the scenery; they were precious resources. With the soil gradually degrading from extreme weather, blood rain, and corrosive acid showers, fertile land was becoming increasingly rare. Vegetation either withered away under the harsh conditions or mutated into unpredictable plant life.

Healthy, vibrant trees like these were becoming more valuable with each passing day.

They purified the air, stabilized the land, and provided one of the few remaining natural sources of oxygen in an increasingly hostile environment. Watching them get cut down one after another as collateral damage in a territorial fight made her feel an unexpected sense of regret.

It was such a waste.

But unfortunately, the two mutated animals showed no sign of slowing down.

The battle only grew more destructive.

More and more wind blades tore through the air, slicing wildly through the forest as the mutated wolf darted around at high speed. Not to be outdone, the mutated porcupine retaliated relentlessly, unleashing volleys of quills in every direction. Hundreds of metallic spikes shot out like a deadly rain of arrows, some missing their target entirely and embedding themselves deep into the surrounding trees.

Trunks were pierced one after another, bark splintering as the quills sank in with brutal force. The once dense forest was quickly turning into a wrecked battlefield, littered with broken branches, shattered trunks, and torn foliage.

As the wolf continued to maneuver to evade the relentless barrage, its constant movement gradually shifted the battlefield’s center. The dense greenery in that direction thinned rapidly, leaving patches of the forest looking almost bald from the sheer destruction.

Kisha’s eyes narrowed slightly.

She could clearly sense that the clash was drifting closer to their position.

Or more precisely, it was the mutated wolf that was closing the distance. Unlike the wolf, the porcupine barely moved from its original spot. It only needed to pivot its massive body, treating its own quills like guided projectiles as it locked onto the wolf’s movements and fired with deadly precision.

Meanwhile, the wolf’s agile dodging forced it to circle wider and wider, inadvertently bringing the chaos nearer to where Kisha and Ethan were concealed.

’Is the mutated wolf doing that on purpose?’ Kisha’s eyes sharpened as she carefully observed its movement pattern.
