Magic Space: Struggling to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 717: Flynn Hansen Is in Trouble

Chapter 717: Chapter 717: Flynn Hansen Is in Trouble

Flynn Hansen glanced at Ronan Kendrick and shook his head in terror. "No, I..."

However, before he could finish, Ronan Kendrick grabbed his right hand. A series of CRACKS sounded as his fingers were bent back into place.

"Just dislocated," Ronan Kendrick said placidly, as if he were commenting on how lovely the moon was tonight. Flynn Hansen wiggled his fingers. There was still a slight, tingling ache, but he could already move them freely.

"You’re incredible, Ronan Kendrick! Is there anything you can’t do?"

Ronan Kendrick raised an eyebrow. "I can’t sing."

All eyes instantly fell on Quincy, followed by a roar of laughter.

"Ronan Kendrick, you..." Quincy started to retort, but when he met Evelyn Ford’s teasing gaze, he reluctantly let out two "WOOF"s. Then, he put his hands on his hips and ignored them all.

「The next morning at eight o’clock,」 everyone had a simple breakfast and prepared to hit the road.

"Did Captain Denton’s group leave so early? I didn’t hear a thing. Evelyn, what time did they go?" Marcus Scott and the others were puzzled that Leo Denton and his teammates had left Demon’s Ridge so quickly. They hadn’t even had a chance to say goodbye.

"In the middle of the night." To be precise, at three in the morning, Ronan Kendrick had gone out and brought Leo Denton, his teammates, Quincy, and Miles Vaughn into the space.

’By now, they’re already working in the fields of the cultivation area.’

"That early? We should get going soon, then."

After they packed up the tents and supplies, Ronan Kendrick blew a whistle, and the horses grazing in the woods came running out.

One horse was assigned to each person. Flynn Hansen took the lead, with the others following in a line and Evelyn Ford and Ronan Kendrick bringing up the rear.

The journey back was easier than the trip out, since the weather had improved. Evelyn Ford planned to reach the base within five days, which meant they had to travel for at least twelve hours a day.

They hadn’t ridden in over two months, and even with padded saddles, their backsides were bruised from the constant jostling. Fortunately, they had wrapped their inner thighs with plenty of cloth strips to prevent them from being chafed raw.

On the first day, they successfully made it out of southern Serena. The overlapping mountain ranges and lush green forests were left far behind. After resting for a night in a grassy field, the group, led by Flynn Hansen, officially entered central Serena the next morning.

The central region was desolate, the yellow earth appearing even more barren under the sun. During their lunch break, Flynn Hansen and Ryan Rowe went into the tall grass to relieve themselves. A few minutes later, Ronan Kendrick heard Ryan Rowe cry for help. By the time the others reached them, Flynn Hansen had already collapsed.

"What happened? Is it heatstroke?"

The morning sun had been quite intense, so Evelyn Ford had already given everyone sun-protective clothing. She herself was thoroughly covered.

"No, Captain Hansen was bitten by a green-headed fly. He said he felt dizzy and nauseous right after, and then he passed out."

Evelyn Ford’s expression turned grim. "Where’s the wound? Ryan Rowe, did you see the green-headed fly that bit him?"

"I didn’t see the fly. Captain Hansen told me what happened. He said a few flies were circling him, and at first he thought they were bees, but they turned out to be green-headed flies. The bite is on his face. It’s already swollen."

Evelyn Ford had no time for more questions. Flynn Hansen’s condition was not good. In less than two minutes, he had started running a fever, his face was flushed, his body temperature was rising, he was disoriented, and he had even begun to vomit.

"He must be poisoned." Evelyn Ford took out two special-formula pills and put them in his mouth. After cleaning the wound on Flynn Hansen’s face, she gave him an injection. Flynn Hansen had already fallen into a coma, and even after being given the medicine, he showed no signs of waking up.

Marcus Scott and the others were so worried they were about to cry, but none of them knew what to do. They could only keep pleading with Evelyn Ford to save him.

"Move him to that clearing up ahead first. I’m going to look for the green-headed fly that bit him. Green-headed flies feed on carrion and feces. If they ate virus-carrying flesh and transmitted the toxin to Flynn Hansen, we’ll need to find the source of that toxin to make an antidote."

"Evelyn, is the captain going to be okay?"

"It’s hard to say. I’ve already given him the special-formula medicine and Detoxification Pills. Logically, as long as it wasn’t something like arsenic or paraquat, the Detoxification Pills should be able to save him. You all watch him. If he wakes up, blow the whistle immediately. I’ll come back as soon as I hear it."

As Evelyn Ford went to find the fly that bit him, Ronan Kendrick followed without a word. They eventually found several of the culprits on a pile of dung in the grass.

"This dung pile looks a lot like cow droppings." Undeterred by the filth, Evelyn Ford took out a small vial and quickly snatched two of the green-headed flies.

"There’s more over here." Ronan Kendrick parted the grass, and they slowly made their way inside. The weeds were so tall they could easily poke an eye out, so Evelyn Ford quickly took out two pairs of goggles.

Amidst a patch of weeds, a scrawny pheasant was being devoured by a dense swarm of green-headed flies, the sound of their BUZZING incessant. The flies scattered the moment the pair got close. The pheasant must have been dead for less than three days; its rotting flesh was still streaked with blood.

Evelyn Ford snatched two more and put them in the vial. Then, she vanished into her space and told Wendy to immediately test the green-headed flies for any viruses.

When she emerged from the space, they both hurried back to their resting spot. Sonny Sawyer and Gavin Gable were crying with worry, and the others didn’t look well either. Evelyn Ford rushed over to check on Flynn Hansen. He still had a high fever, and the flush had become more severe, spreading from his face down to his neck and chest.

Evelyn Ford took out a number of fever-reducing patches and placed them all over Flynn Hansen. About half an hour later, his eyelid twitched. Just as everyone thought he was about to wake up, Flynn Hansen threw up all over Marcus Scott.

"There’s a small pond over there. Go wash up, but be careful. Don’t get bitten by any bugs." Marcus Scott was covered in filth, and the strong midday sun made the smell even more suffocating. Evelyn Ford was glad she was wearing a mask; the stench had already caused Ryan Rowe’s face to twist in disgust.

Marcus Scott looked completely baffled. He hadn’t expected Flynn Hansen to vomit all over him instead of waking up. Grabbing a change of clothes, he scrambled toward the pond.

"Evelyn, why isn’t the captain waking up?"

"I’m not sure either." Evelyn Ford was also waiting for Wendy’s test results. ’If Flynn Hansen doesn’t wake up in an hour,’ she thought, ’I’ll have to put him in the space.’

The sun climbed higher. At one-thirty in the afternoon, Flynn Hansen still hadn’t regained consciousness, so Evelyn Ford gave him another Detoxification Pill and another special-formula pill.

Evelyn Ford pulled Ronan Kendrick and Ryan Rowe aside, lowering her voice. "Let’s put Flynn Hansen into the space and have Wendy watch him. We need to keep moving."

"Then how do we explain it to Marcus Scott and the others?"

"We won’t have to explain." Evelyn Ford handed Ryan Rowe a bottle of water. "I added a drug to this that will make them fall into a deep sleep. Have the four of them drink it. The three of us will keep going."
