Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Chapter 461 - 457: Fire Element Epiphany

Chapter 461: Chapter 457: Fire Element Epiphany

"If she were that strong, she wouldn’t have stayed silent just now, would she?" Che Kai said with a smug expression. "I think it’s the overall strength of their Starfire Team that’s propped her up to her current position."

Li Zongyuan frowned at his words. "You’re just overconfident sometimes. Don’t forget, you just said yourself that you couldn’t gauge the Starfire Captain’s overall power level."

"It just means she’s probably carrying something like an Eye Shielding Device." Che Kai waved his hand dismissively. "She’s just a woman. Nothing to be afraid of."

"Don’t be so dismissive of women. Have you forgotten all the times you’ve been secretly bested by them?"

"Don’t take this lightly," Li Zongyuan warned in a cold voice. "You saw it yourself just now. Gu Chen’s team seems quite powerful."

"We can’t afford to capsize in a ditch."

"Pull yourself together and take them seriously."

"Relax, Captain Li." Che Kai raised his eyebrows, unconcerned. "Don’t forget, you still have an ace up your sleeve. There’s no way we can lose, right?"

Li Zongyuan didn’t reply. He just shot Che Kai a warning glance, gesturing for him to be mindful of the driver up front.

"He can’t hear a thing," Che Kai scoffed. "Captain, you’re just being overly cautious."

Xie Ning hadn’t been resting for long. After a brief, token nap, she opened her eyes and gazed at the sand drifting in the wind outside the window.

Tiny grains of sand were visible to the naked eye.

Song Kexin, who was sitting next to her, was playing with fire.

She stared intently at the flame in her hand, lost in thought, her gaze fixed and unfocused.

Xie Ning glanced over, feeling utterly speechless.

’This unreliable girl... It’s good that she’s actively practicing her superpower, but she can’t just play with fire in the car...’

But as she looked closer, Xie Ning couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

’This flame?’

The flame in Song Kexin’s hand was gradually taking the shape of a sphere, its color shifting from crimson to a pale blue.

’Whoa, this girl is incredible!’

’Has the kid reached a deeper level of understanding with her Fire Ability?’

Xie Ning practically held her breath. She didn’t dare make a sound or move, sitting bolt upright beside Song Kexin and watching her continue to play with the fire.

The flame in Song Kexin’s hand became incredibly nimble, shifting from a circle to a square in an instant. It weaved in and out of her palm, as agile as a soaring dragon.

With a slight stir of her Space Ability, Xie Ning retrieved a Fire-element Energy Ball from her terrace space and pushed it in front of Song Kexin.

At a speed visible to the naked eye, Song Kexin began to rapidly absorb the power from the Fire-element Energy Ball.

Just then, Song Shijun, sitting in the front row, turned his head and was about to speak, but Xie Ning shot him a glare and made a "hush" gesture.

Song Shijun jumped in surprise. His eyes widened as he stared at the pale blue ball of flame in Song Kexin’s hand.

’Oh my god!’

’His sister is just playing with fire in the car like no one’s watching...’

By now, the other adults in the front and back rows had also noticed something unusual about Song Kexin and turned to Xie Ning with questioning glances.

Xie Ning simply made a gesture for silence, not daring to speak.

The car fell silent in an instant, making the WHOOSH of the wind and sand outside seem even louder.

Xie Ning carefully placed a spatial barrier around Song Kexin. Only then did she let out a breath and turn to Song Shijun. "What are you still gaping at? Look at your sister! Now look at you."

"After this breakthrough, it’ll be a matter of minutes before your sister advances to the Sixth Rank. And you? You’re still stuck at the Fourth Rank. Aren’t you ashamed?"

"It’s not like I haven’t given you enough Energy Balls. Get to your Cultivation."

Song Shijun, having been chewed out for no reason, felt like he was about to burst into tears.

’Why me?’

’All I do now is study and cultivate, cultivate and study. It’s even harder than when I was in school!’

’My sister is a demon, tormenting a poor soul like me day after day.’

Song Shijun obediently returned to his seat. No more soda, no more chips. With a miserable frown, he began to practice his Wind Ability.

But the moment he conjured a gust of wind, the adults around him started complaining.

"Be more careful, Shijun!"

"Hey, you’re messing up my hair!"

"You’re not doing it right, Shijun. Be like your sister and practice your superpower quietly so you don’t bother anyone."

"Exactly, look at this gust of wind." Song Youyi smoothed down his hair, giving his "dear son" a look of disdain. "You need to learn control."

’Easy for someone with no superpower to talk,’ Song Shijun wanted to retort to his dad, but he was afraid of being ganged up on by the other adults. He decided it was better to just chicken out and forget it.

Xie Ning, watching from the back, found the scene amusing. She turned to look at Song Kexin, who was inside the spatial shield and engrossed in studying the pale blue flame. A hint of relief and pride flashed in her eyes.

"Ms. Ning," Ji Taixian shuffled over to them and asked cautiously, "what’s Xinxin doing?"

"It’s okay to talk now. I’ve placed her inside a separate spatial shield, so she won’t be disturbed."

Everyone let out a small sigh of relief, and they could finally speak at a normal volume.

"Ms. Ning, with Xinxin studying in the shield all by herself, doesn’t she need any guidance?"

"Wow, Xinxin is really becoming something special." Song You’ai stood up and paced around Song Kexin, observing her.

"Look, just look at that flame! It’s incredible, simply incredible."

Song Youzhi also leaned in, his face full of curiosity. "Ningning, what’s happening with this flame?"

The flame in his daughter’s hand danced between her fingers like a soaring dragon; she was controlling it with perfect ease.

"She’s probably leveling up," Xie Ning said, a smile in her eyes.

After a moment of thought, she added, "It’s like my mom. She figured out how to control water temperature—she can turn it to ice or bring it to a rolling boil."

"I imagine Xinxin is having a similar kind of epiphany right now."

"This is amazing, Xinxin," his younger aunt said with a smile. "The kids in our family are just so promising. Shijun, you need to learn from your two big sisters! Keep up the hard work!"

"Work hard, son!" Song Youyi pumped his fist encouragingly at Song Shijun, who was across the aisle.

Song Shijun didn’t even spare them a glance. He just stared down, expressionless, focusing on controlling the wind in his hands.

’My heart aches, but I can’t say a word o(╥﹏╥)o’

Xie Ning glanced at her "little brother," secretly suppressing a smile, and said softly, "Give her a little more time. Don’t disturb her."

"Once she’s finished her breakthrough, she’ll come to on her own."

"Okay!" everyone nodded in unison before returning to their seats.

Only Ji Taixian pulled a small stool from his Space and sat down next to Song Kexin. With a concerned look, he said, "Ms. Ning, I’ll sit here and watch over her."

Everyone: ...

Wang Zongxuan couldn’t bear to watch his good friend acting like this. He simply pulled his hat down over his eyes and went to sleep.

Xie Ning shot Ji Taixian an amused yet exasperated glance. "You two still haven’t made up?"

Ji Taixian nodded pitifully. "Yeah, I’m still trying. I know Xinxin will forgive me eventually."

’What a pair of goofballs!’ Xie Ning shook her head, exasperated. "Fine, you keep an eye on her."

"Okay! Don’t worry, Ms. Ning. If anything happens, I’ll let you know right away."
