Chapter 261: Chapter 261: Thank You Gift
"She didn’t kill anyone."
Hearing Jiang Moli’s words, Lu Tingting subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.
’I knew it,’ she thought. ’How could Jiang Qing have the guts to kill someone? Those old classmates are just spreading baseless rumors.’
Just as she was silently grumbling, she heard Jiang Moli add, "It was attempted murder. There’s a big difference between the two when it comes to sentencing."
Lu Tingting’s breath hitched, her eyes widening to the size of bronze bells. "She... she really tried to kill someone?"
Seeing her startled expression, Jiang Moli couldn’t help but tease, "Hey, my dear niece, you should really bring a gift and go thank Wei Qing properly."
Lu Tingting was confused. "What should I thank her for?"
"You lived in the same room with her for so long, and she never tried to kill you."
"..."
An Hui’s heart pounded as she listened. She stepped in to stop them from discussing it further. "Alright, that’s enough. Tingting, have you eaten? There’s still some chicken soup on the stove. Go get a bowl if you want some."
Hearing there was chicken soup, Lu Tingting got up and ran into the kitchen.
A moment later, she came out carrying a large bowl of chicken soup with a big, plump chicken wing soaking in it.
Seeing how happily Lu Tingting was gnawing on the chicken wing, Jiang Moli suddenly said, "I dreamed about you last night."
Lu Tingting shot her a sideways glance and went back to chewing on her chicken wing.
"I dreamed you were swimming in boiling water, but you were completely fine. I was totally stunned. I asked you how you did it. Guess what you said?"
Lu Tingting kept slurping on the wing bone, not making a sound.
Lu Deyao, however, couldn’t contain his curiosity. "What did Tingting say?"
Holding back her laughter, Jiang Moli said, "She said it’s because she’s a total washout."
Lu Deyao was stunned for a second, but then he got it and burst out laughing.
An Hui and Ma Hongmei also couldn’t help but chuckle.
"You’re the washout!"
Furious, Lu Tingting threw the bone at Jiang Moli, who deftly dodged it.
She angrily sought backup. "Grandma, look at her!"
An Hui glanced over at Jiang Moli. "I’ve looked."
Seeing that An Hui wasn’t taking her side, Lu Tingting decided to take matters into her own hands, rolling up her sleeves to fight Jiang Moli.
Jiang Moli, of course, wasn’t just going to sit there and take it. She grabbed a throw pillow and tossed it at her, using the opportunity to scramble behind the armchair where Lu Deyao was sitting.
Lu Tingting threw the pillow back at her, but accidentally hit Lu Deyao in the face.
"Oof!"
Jiang Moli fanned the flames. "Ha! Assaulting an old man! You’re so dead!"
Lu Deyao: "..."
’I’m not that old, am I?’
Lu Tingting said angrily, "It’s all your fault! You insulted me first! Grandpa, hit her!"
An Hui stood up, took the feather duster off the wall, and tapped it sharply on the coffee table. THWACK, THWACK. "Both of you, sit down right now! Anyone who starts trouble again, and I’ll beat you both!"
Jiang Moli raised her hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, I’ll stop."
Lu Tingting snorted, sat back down on the sofa, and continued drinking her soup.
Seeing that the two had settled down, An Hui hung the feather duster back on the wall.
Lu Tingting finished her chicken soup, wiped her mouth, and got ready to go home.
Jiang Moli called out to her, "Come to my room. I have something for you."
"I don’t want it!"
Jiang Moli went over and pulled her along. "I’m not tricking you. I really do have something for you."
Feigning reluctance, Lu Tingting allowed herself to be led to Jiang Moli’s room.
An Hui, not trusting the aunt and niece to be in a room alone, followed them in.
"Here, this is for you."
Once in the room, Jiang Moli took a heavy, large, oil-paper-wrapped package from the closet and tossed it into Lu Tingting’s arms.
"What is it? So secretive."
Lu Tingting suspiciously placed the package on the table, eyeing her as she began to unwrap it.
Jiang Moli sat on the edge of the bed. "A present for you."
"You’d be this ni—"
Seeing what was inside the paper, the rest of Lu Tingting’s sentence got stuck in her throat.
"What is it?"
An Hui walked curiously to her granddaughter’s side. She was stunned at first when she saw the contents, then smiled and lifted it up.
"It’s a coat! Moli, when did you buy this?"
Ma Hongmei also came closer with a smile to take a look. "Wow, and it’s cashmere. That must’ve been expensive."
Lu Tingting felt like she was dreaming.
’That damn woman really got me something, and it’s a cashmere coat!’
’Even the style and color are what I like!’
An Hui and Ma Hongmei helped Lu Tingting put on the coat, showering her with one compliment after another.
"It’s beautiful."
"The color suits Tingting, too. You have great taste in clothes."
Lu Tingting had a yellowish skin tone, so Jiang Moli had specifically chosen a sky blue that would make her look both youthful and radiant.
Jiang Moli walked over to Lu Tingting, looking at her reflection in the full-length mirror. "So? Do you like the coat?"
’Like it? I absolutely love it!’
She looked at Jiang Moli suspiciously. "Giving me a coat for no reason... what are you planning?"
Jiang Moli was amused by her wary expression. "It’s not for no reason. It’s a thank-you gift for recommending *Chasing Dreams* to Lin Jianfeng. Thanks, you silly girl."
After speaking, she casually pinched Lu Tingting’s cheek. "Now you won’t have to get drunk and cry about being jealous of other people’s pretty coats."
’So full of collagen, soft and springy. Feels nice.’
Although Lu Tingting also felt she had helped Jiang Moli, she never expected Jiang Moli to actually show any gratitude.
But Jiang Moli had not only prepared a thoughtful gift for her, she had also thanked her so sincerely, and it was the very thing she wanted most.
In that moment, she felt acknowledged and respected.
An Hui knew that Jiang Moli and Lin Jianfeng were collaborating on *Chasing Dreams*, but she didn’t know it was Lu Tingting who had recommended the project to him.
She couldn’t help but praise her granddaughter. "You did a good thing. Family should help each other out, so we don’t become a laughingstock to outsiders."
Wearing the cashmere coat she loved and buoyed by her grandmother’s praise, Lu Tingting happily ran home.
The moment she walked in the door, Lu Nana rushed over with wide, eager eyes. "Sis, you’re wearing a new coat? It’s so pretty! Where’d you get it?"
Lu Tingting slapped away Lu Nana’s roving hands. "Don’t touch it. You’ll get it dirty."
Fan Wenfang eyed the cashmere coat. "Did your grandma buy you that?"
Lu Nana immediately started to whine. "Grandma’s playing favorites! She didn’t buy me anything!"
Lu Haoyu chimed in to join the fuss. "Me neither!"
Lu Tingting rolled her eyes at her siblings. "Grandma didn’t buy it."
"Then who did? That coat looks expensive. Sis, you’re not secretly dating someone, are you? Did your future brother-in-law buy it for you?"
Lu Tingting scoffed at Lu Nana. "Stop talking nonsense. Jiang Moli bought it for me."
This answer was even more shocking to the family than the idea of Lu Tingting secretly dating someone.
"Why would Third Aunt buy you a coat out of the blue? She didn’t even get me one." Lu Nana was so jealous she could cry.
’Such a pretty coat, I want one too!’
"I helped her with something, and this is her thank-you gift."
Fan Wenfang pinched the fabric of the coat, puzzled. "What did you help her with that she’d buy you such an expensive coat?"
Lu Tingting looked down at the coat she was wearing, so happy she wanted to spin in circles.
"Is this coat very expensive?"
Fan Wenfang said, "Director Wu from my workplace wore a similar one from Shanghai the other day, and it cost over 200 yuan. I think yours looks even better than Director Wu’s. It must be from Hong Kong."
Lu Tingting was stunned.
She had a good eye and knew the coat wasn’t cheap, but she never imagined it would be this expensive.
Growing up, not even her own mother had ever bought her such an expensive piece of clothing.
’That damn woman... she’s surprisingly generous.’
