Chapter 536: This Place Isn’t So Great Either

Chapter 536: Chapter 536: This Place Isn’t So Great Either

Granny Cai smiled, looking fondly at Chen Wenxuan. "There are four great joys in life. I already celebrated your academic success with you. Now that you’re getting married, of course I had to be here."

"Besides, Xiao Jing is such a good child, and I’m her elder. I’m going to act as a parent for the bride’s side and give her away. What’s the plan for the wedding? Are there any traditions we need to follow?"

Chen Wenxuan answered, "My parents suggested we have a Western-style wedding abroad."

Granny Cai thought for a moment and said, "That works. After all, we’re in a foreign country, and we can’t get a lot of the things from back home anyway. We’ll treat this as a special case. A Western-style wedding sounds very nice."

Han Xiaorui also smiled. "Those are all just formalities. As long as you two love each other, nothing else matters."

Han Xiaoqing held her sister’s arm and wouldn’t let go. "I think so too. I’m usually busy with work, and on top of that, I’m pregnant. If it weren’t for my advisor insisting I pursue a doctorate, I would have already gone back home."

Han Xiaorui ruffled her younger sister’s hair. "You silly girl. You’re about to be a wife and a mother, yet you’re still acting like a little girl."

Han Xiaoqing’s eyes reddened slightly as she leaned on her sister’s shoulder. "Sis, thank you. Without you, my life would have been completely different. I might have been a factory worker, or maybe I would’ve opened a small shop. It definitely wouldn’t be as wonderful as it is now."

Han Xiaorui chuckled softly. "You have a quiet strength. No matter the circumstances, you would have made a good life for yourself. You feel like I helped you, but you’ve helped me, too, haven’t you?"

"After my divorce, when I needed help the most, you were the one who packed your bags and came overnight to take care of my kids for free, allowing me to focus on my fishing business."

The two sisters looked at each other, seeing the heartfelt emotion and sincerity in each other’s eyes.

After driving for a little over an hour, they finally arrived.

Chen Wenxuan got Liang Xiaoyu and Chen Yishui’s family settled in their house; there were plenty of rooms.

Sister Cai and Han Xiaorui’s family stayed with him and Han Xiaoqing.

"Everyone, please rest for an hour. It’ll be lunchtime then, so come over to eat. My house is the one with the roses planted by the door," Chen Wenxuan told Liang Xiaoyu and Chen Yishui.

Chen Yishui smiled. "It’s not far, we can find it. Wenxuan, you’ve gone to a lot of trouble for us."

Chen Wenxuan replied graciously, "Please don’t say that. Xiao Jing and I are so happy you could come to our wedding. Thank you."

After explaining how to use the various amenities, Chen Wenxuan took his leave.

Liang Xiaoyu looked around. "Sister Shui, have you noticed? This place isn’t all that special!"

Hearing this, Chen Yishui was exasperated. "The way you talk... Have you forgotten what Jinshan Bay is like now? Of course this place doesn’t seem like a big deal to you!"

"Still, this house was built over a decade ago, and the exterior is so clean and tidy. It shows that foreign countries are still quite a bit better than ours."

"But I believe our country will get better and better, and Shencheng will definitely become the best of places. Even if it never catches up to this, it doesn’t matter. In our hearts, home is always the best."

"I thought we’d be staying in a hotel. I didn’t expect Xiao Jing and Wenxuan to make such thoughtful arrangements. After the wedding, we should definitely take the chance to look around."

Liang Xiaoyu nodded. "You’re right, Sister Shui. Home is the best place. Xiao Jing and Wenxuan’s arrangements are great. Let’s definitely do some exploring."

Han Xiaoqing wanted to help Han Xiaorui unpack, but Han Xiaorui stopped her. "Don’t worry, I’ve got it. The children are older now. Even the youngest, Ningning and Zhuangzhuang, are six years old; they can manage their own things."

Pingping and An’an were closest to their aunt. They remembered her well, as they often exchanged letters and photos, and Han Xiaoqing frequently sent them toys from abroad.

Han Xiaorui also often talked about her sister to them, so Pingping and An’an were very fond of their aunt and missed her dearly.

After some snacks and juice, the children ran out to play in the backyard.

Han Xiaorui quickly stopped Han Xiaoqing, who was bustling about, and made her sit down.

"You’re pregnant now; you don’t need to be running around doing everything! The most important thing for you right now is to take care of yourself and the baby!"

Han Xiaoqing smiled and sat down. "I can’t sit still! Besides, I’m only two months along, I’m not even showing yet. If you hadn’t said anything, I wouldn’t even feel it!"

Granny Cai walked over. "Two months... in our books, the pregnancy isn’t stable yet. You need to get past the three-month mark before you’re in the clear."

"There’s a reason for the folk belief that you don’t announce a pregnancy before three months. You can’t be careless just because you’re young and healthy."

Han Xiaoqing smiled. "Alright, I get it! I’ll be more careful from now on. How are Pingping, An’an, and Wenjun doing in school?"

At this, Granny Cai’s face lit up with a huge smile. "On the last exam, my Wenjun placed 32nd in his class! And there are 46 students in total! My Wenjun wasn’t last!"

"His behavior now is just like any other child’s! He might be a little naive, but he’s not the least bit foolish! I’m completely satisfied that he’s come this far!"

Han Xiaoru also said with a smile: "My Pingping and An’an did well on this test too. Pingping was 29th, and An’an was 30th! Back then, wasn’t our only hope for them to just be like normal children?"

"They’ve achieved that now, so I’m very satisfied! That’s why I don’t pressure them to get top grades. As long as they’re happy and healthy, that’s all that matters!"

Granny Cai deeply agreed. "Right, right! Anyway, the family has houses now, and businesses. There are plenty of ways to make money!"

"Lately, I’ve noticed Wenjun can’t seem to walk past the jade carving shop! He seems really interested in it. I’ll take him to Dayong one of these days and have him teach Wenjun a little."

"Maybe he can make a living from it when he grows up! With a trade, you’ll never go hungry! Then, when he’s old enough, we’ll find him a capable wife! And his life will be complete!"

Han Xiaoqing said emotionally, "The children are so lucky to have parents like you. I’ve seen a lot over here. While a teacher’s intervention program is important, a parent’s presence and their cooperation in tutoring the child are just as crucial."

"After every exam, I have you send me a copy of Pingping’s, An’an’s, and Wenjun’s test papers."

"After I translate them, I show them to my advisor. My advisor is very impressed with Pingping’s, An’an’s, and Wenjun’s results. He says they are excellent."

"Since they’re all here this time, I want to take them to meet my advisor after the wedding and let him see them for himself!"

"Okay! I also hope you can achieve more research results and help more people," Han Xiaorui agreed.

Granny Cai also nodded. "Yes, good. We’ll let a foreign doctor take a look at them too!"
