Chapter 568 - 566: The Coffin Lid Can’t Be Held Down

Chapter 568: Chapter 566: The Coffin Lid Can’t Be Held Down

Although Old Master Wu was a bit angry, he didn’t let it show.

He still had at least that much patience.

"Ye Ling, no matter how you deny it, the Wu family’s blood flows through your veins. You are the continuation of Xingjia’s bloodline, and that’s a fact you can’t change. Come to the Wu family. It will give you a different, better life."

Ye Ling was no longer as angry as he used to be. Instead, he just smiled faintly. "You might be right. I can’t replace all the blood in my body. But I’ve never believed that an unchangeable physical fact can control a person’s mind."

"In fact, you should be grateful that I’m a man of principle. If I were greedy for your fortune, I could take everything the Wu family has, sell it all off, and I’d even sell it to your rivals."

"By doing so, not only would I get a huge sum of money without any of the hassle, but most importantly, I’d have my revenge for how you’ve disrupted my life. But my father convinced me that’s not necessary. No one can stand in the way of my life, so just back off."

"Whether you focus on raising that thoroughly vile grandson of yours, or just adopt a child and raise them properly, either is better than having someone who despises you inherit the family estate. The consequences for you would be enormous. You’d probably be spinning in your grave so much you’d jump out of your coffin to strangle me."

"I’ve said my piece. I hope you’ll actually listen and not be like Wu Xingjia, with his whole ’I’m your father, this is for your own good’ act. In my eyes, he’s nothing. What I’m saying is harsh, but it’s the honest truth. Stop wasting your time. It’s better for you, and it’s better for me."

After he finished speaking, Ye Ling slung his backpack over one shoulder. His tall, slender frame and determined stride carried him away beneath the shade of the university’s trees.

Some of the early autumn leaves had already turned yellow and fallen, swirling on the ground.

Watching Ye Ling’s retreating figure, Old Master Wu felt a wave of melancholy.

Though Ye Ling’s words and attitude were harsh, he was undeniably a man of principle. He wouldn’t even deign to feign interest, much less inherit the Wu family’s fortune.

Liu Yun, too, was utterly stunned after seeing Ye Ling.

’How can he be so handsome?’

’How can he be so outstanding?’

’If only Ye Ling were her child. Her life would be perfect.’

Liu Yun had always felt she’d won against Wang Liwen. But now, seeing Ye Ling, she felt she had lost, and lost badly.

All she could do was pin her hopes on her nephew. But Wang Liwen?

She had not only become a leading expert in virology but also had two exceptional sons.

Even the husband she’d hastily found for a marriage of convenience was now a high-ranking official.

Despite all her scheming and plotting, in the end, she still couldn’t compare to Wang Liwen.

Old Master Wu sighed. "Hah... The more he refuses, the more I want him."

If Ye Ling had come in drooling over the Wu family fortune, he probably wouldn’t like the boy nearly as much. He certainly wouldn’t be this fixated on him.

Liu Yun, worried about Wu Xingjia, said, "Dad, since we can’t get through to Ye Ling, let’s go find Wang Liwen. We have to get Xingjia out of there quickly."

Hearing this, Old Master Wu nodded. "Alright. Let’s head back to the hotel. You arrange a meeting with Wang Liwen. Just tell her I want to see her."

It was a shame he couldn’t bring Ye Ling into the family, but right now, the most important thing was getting his son back.

This was the State Security Bureau they were talking about. If he was locked up for too long, Wu Xingjia might not be able to endure it.

"Yes, Dad. Don’t worry. I’ll be talking to her woman to woman, and Wang Liwen and I used to know each other. Maybe our old friendship will still count for something."

Old Master Wu’s gaze was profound as he looked at Liu Yun. "Then you go and make contact with Wang Liwen. Show our sincerity. We’re not here to snatch her son away, but to formally acknowledge him as family."

"She and Ye Zheng are smart people. They should know that the Wu family is more powerful than ever, and the technology we’re bringing is something Hua Country desperately needs."

Liu Yun nodded. "I understand, Dad! I’ll do my best to convince Wang Liwen."

Liu Yun first dropped Old Master Wu off at his hotel, then called Wang Liwen.

She called the research institute directly. Wang Liwen didn’t answer; her assistant took the call.

When Wang Liwen saw the note her assistant had left for her, a hint of mockery flickered in her eyes. ’So, Liu Yun finally dares to show her face?’

Back then, she had been young, lost in the bliss of love.

Liu Yun had been there, too, fanning the flames, and before she knew it, she had fallen right into the trap Liu Yun had woven.

At what she thought was the happiest moment of her life, Wu Xingjia’s betrayal and Liu Yun’s backstabbing had pushed her into an abyss.

She had been at a complete loss back then. If her husband hadn’t stepped in and helped her take control, she would have been doomed, never to recover.

After she calmed down, she replayed every detail in her mind over and over, discovering many suspicious things.

One of the main reasons she had gotten together with Wu Xingjia so quickly was the constant encouragement from her "good friend," Liu Yun.

But now Liu Yun was married to Wu Xingjia, which baffled Wang Liwen.

’If you like someone, shouldn’t you do everything you can to pursue them?’

’Why push that man toward another woman?’

It was a question Wang Liwen simply could not answer.

Since Liu Yun had requested a meeting, Wang Liwen’s curiosity was piqued. She requested permission from her superior to go see her.

Worried for her safety, her superior assigned two people to protect her.

Liu Yun listlessly stirred her coffee, her gaze unfocused, her mind a complete blank.

Wang Liwen appeared before Liu Yun and sat down. "I never thought we’d see each other again after all these years."

Liu Yun faltered for a moment, looking at Wang Liwen, who sat before her with a bare face, not a trace of makeup on.

"Yes... I’m surprised you still look so well after all these years. You look so young!"

Liu Yun unconsciously touched her own face. Her makeup was exquisite, but she knew that beneath it, fine lines had appeared and her skin had started to sag.

But Wang Liwen, sitting across from her, looked to be in excellent shape, aside from a few wrinkles at the corners of her eyes.

While not a stunning beauty, she possessed a quiet tranquility that came from a life immersed in scholarly pursuits.

Wang Liwen smiled. "I can hardly compare to your dignified elegance. What did you want to see me about today?"

Liu Yun smiled back. "I hope Ye Ling will formally acknowledge his ties to the Wu family."

Hearing this, Wang Liwen was taken aback. "And how would that benefit you? As far as I can see, there’s nothing in it for you. After all you and Wu Xingjia have been through, are you really willing to just hand over the entire family fortune to my son?"

Liu Yun’s hand trembled slightly, her palm beginning to sweat. "This is in the best interests of the Wu family. It is also what Xingjia and the Old Master wish." freⅇ

Wang Liwen looked at Liu Yun in disbelief, refusing to believe these were her true feelings.

"You’re Wu Xingjia’s wife now. I have reason to suspect you were already in love with him back when you were so desperately trying to set us up."

"Why would you do that? If you liked Wu Xingjia, you could have done everything in your power to pursue him and be with him. Why would you just stand by and watch him get together with another woman?"
