I See Murders Before They Happen

Chapter 254 - 252: Saw the Scene

Chapter 254: Chapter 252: Saw the Scene

As soon as Su Miaoyi stopped coughing, she tried to describe the vision she’d seen. But just as she was about to speak, the world started spinning, and her head felt like it was going to explode.

She immediately slumped against Chu Xingrou’s shoulder.

Chu Xingrou wrapped an arm around her waist, gently patting her back.

Su Miaoyi slowly steadied herself.

Images and sounds flooded her mind.

"Qin Leyan! I don’t care who your father is! I’m your superior now, and you’ll follow my orders. If you ever dare to go behind my back, take a team, and make an arrest without filing a report again, you can get the hell out of the municipal bureau."

"But you shoot down every method I propose! We could at least try them, but you never do. I had no choice but to take matters into my own hands. I only took a team out once, and I caught the suspect, didn’t I?"

"You think I can’t catch criminals without your methods? Name one case I haven’t solved! Name one person who needed catching that I didn’t catch! Who the hell do you think you are? How long have you been on the criminal investigation team that you think you can lecture me? You think just because you graduated from some fancy police academy you’re better than us who’ve been dealing with real criminals for over a decade? In your dreams!"

"This case hasn’t been solved, and the suspect hasn’t been caught," she retorted. "How many times has this happened? Every time, you either let them escape, or they get silenced, or the trail just goes cold. If I had snuck in with a team today, we might have caught them. The case would have had a breakthrough; we might have even solved it."

"Qin Leyan! Why do you think people are always willing to follow you?"

"Because my methods are sound, everyone recognizes that, and we’re all just trying to solve the case."

"Bullshit! It’s because you have a powerful father, and every last one of them wants to kiss your ass. If it weren’t for your dad, you think anyone would give you the time of day?"

"Of course they would," she said. "I’ve been here a while, I get along with everyone, I’m smart, and I can handle myself. If you weren’t always chewing me out, forcing them to walk on eggshells around you, they’d be even friendlier to me than they already are."

"You!"

"It’s all because of you," she said in a low voice. "You find fault with everything I do. If you weren’t always berating me and refusing to even consider my suggestions, do you think I’d act without telling you? You keep bringing up my dad. He’s so busy; I would never want to trouble him with my work."

"Besides, the situation developed suddenly, and I couldn’t find you. There’s nothing wrong with us deploying immediately to take action."

"Excuses. Get back to writing your report!"

She didn’t say another word, just turned and walked out.

As these memories flooded in, Su Miaoyi’s head throbbed so intensely she felt nauseous.

She quickly composed herself, fighting through the pain and nausea to say a license plate number. "Start by running this plate."

Zhuang Yanzheng looked at Qi Feng, who immediately left.

Su Miaoyi leaned against a table and rubbed her forehead. "Feng Ruihao is dead. So is Yuan Man."

"Did you see where it happened?"

"How did they die? How do you know?"

Zhuang Yanzheng and Brother Zheng asked at the same time.

After they spoke, Brother Zheng looked at Zhuang Yanzheng. "Where what? Saw what? How did she see it?"

Su Miaoyi looked to Zhuang Yanzheng.

"There are no outsiders here. Just say it," Zhuang Yanzheng said, then turned to Brother Zheng. "Don’t talk. Just listen."

Brother Zheng opened his mouth, but since he was told not to speak, he shut it again.

"In a forest. The specifics are a little unclear." Su Miaoyi looked at Chu Xingrou. "There were poplars and maples. I think... there were mountains, too. It should be somewhere in Jinghai."

"Okay." Chu Xingrou had been staring at her in amazement, but at her words, she immediately complied, pulling out her phone to start searching.

Su Miaoyi looked at Zhuang Yanzheng and paused for a second. "I saw the killer."

Zhuang Yanzheng watched her, sensing that something was wrong.

’She usually just comes right out and said who the killer was. Why the sudden preamble?’

"It’s the same person who killed Xing Chang and Chang Yong," Su Miaoyi said. "But beyond that, I saw someone else."

"Who?" Zhuang Yanzheng already had a sinking feeling he knew the answer.

"Lu Xian," Su Miaoyi said.

Zhuang Yanzheng didn’t say a word.

"Who?!" Brother Zheng thought he had misheard.

Hearing the name, an expression of shock and hatred crossed Yan Cheng’s face.

Lu Zhishen glanced between them.

"Lu Xian? I didn’t hear that wrong, did I? Are we talking about the same Lu Xian I know?" Brother Zheng asked.

Su Miaoyi nodded.

Brother Zheng’s face went completely rigid.

"Lu Xian was in the car I just told you about," Su Miaoyi said. "Let’s start by checking on that vehicle."

"He’s actually in Jinghai!" Brother Zheng exclaimed.

"The license plate is from out of town. He must have come from elsewhere," Su Miaoyi said.

Brother Zheng stood for a moment before pulling a nearby chair over and sitting down. He felt a little unsteady on his feet.

"If this case is connected to him, does that mean we can finally get some closure on the case from five years ago?" Yan Cheng said.

Zhuang Yanzheng nodded.

Su Miaoyi quickly and concisely described what she had seen in her vision.

The scene began in a car.

She saw everything from Feng Ruihao’s perspective, though she didn’t realize who he was at first.

She could see that the woman driving was the one who had killed Xing Chang and Chang Yong in the hospital, and Lu Xian was sitting in the back seat.

From her perspective, Feng Ruihao was sitting next to Lu Xian. He spoke first, "Brother Lu."

Lu Xian answered. "The police are on to you. They’re at your house now. Don’t go back."

"But my wife is waiting for me at home." In the vision, she heard herself speak, but the voice that came out was a man’s. "I think she found out about Yuan Man and me."

Lu Xian stared straight ahead. After a moment, he asked, "So, are you going back now?"

"No. I’d better go lie low somewhere else. Wait for this to blow over."

"You should leave town right now. Your home is going to be under heavy surveillance for a while," Lu Xian said.

"Okay. I’ll send Qin Qin a message to let her know." With that, he pulled out his phone.

Lu Xian snatched the phone and stuffed it into his own pocket.

"Brother Lu!"

"I knew you’d pull out your phone," Lu Xian said. "If you so much as make a single call or send a single text right now, they’ll pinpoint your location."

"But... but..."

A single look from Lu Xian, and he immediately fell silent.

The car continued on in silence.

After a long while, he asked, "Where are we going?"

"You’ll know when we get there."

"Then who gave me up? Aren’t Xing Chang and Chang Yong already dead? How did they track it back to me? I’ve always been so careful. Not even my wife or family knows."

"Your wife is just too quick to believe your bullshit; she’ll buy whatever you tell her," Lu Xian said. "So how did Yuan Man find out what you were doing?"

He didn’t answer.

Lu Xian said, "Yuan Man can’t be left alive."

Hearing this, he didn’t seem to react at first. But after a moment, he pleaded, "Brother Lu, my wife doesn’t know anything. She really doesn’t. Please, let her go. For all the years I’ve followed you, for the sake of my young child, please spare them."

"I won’t touch them. Besides, your house is under police surveillance," Lu Xian said. "Zhuang Yanzheng doesn’t make idle threats. I’m not going to send my people in to risk being exposed..."
