Empress Dowager Su paused heavily at this point, then continued to speak.

“Now, everyone is convinced that you attacked your Uncle, even if you deny it, it’s the same. If you don’t issue a decree of self-indictment, you’ll have to face the Imperial Clan Court’s scrutiny. Do you think the things you’ve done before can leave absolutely no trace?”

“If they find out, you’ll be expelled by the clan. That’s why I agreed to you issuing a decree of self-indictment. You can completely blame it on youthful indiscretion, and by behaving well in the future, the clan won’t make things difficult for you.”

“In the future, when you truly control the Dayan Kingdom, who would dare disrespect you? Then, you can repay Rong Ling for the humiliation today by declaring that what you do today is all for Dayan, for the people, to avoid chaos. By that time, who in Dayan wouldn’t call you, Rong Che, a wise monarch who bears the humiliation for the greater good.”

“But today, if you don’t issue this decree of self-indictment, you will have to enter the Imperial Clan Court for scrutiny. If I do not take a stance, the clan won’t let it go. Does the Emperor wish to kill all members of the Rong family?”

“If that happens, the Vassal Kings stationed at the fiefs will immediately raise their troops and head straight for the Capital City.”

After finishing her words, the Empress Dowager slumped, breathless, onto the soft couch at the side of the chamber.

Rong Che, lying on the grand bed in the chamber, was stunned by the Empress Dowager’s words. He then felt as though he had erred again and did not dare to look at the Empress Dowager’s face.

The Empress Dowager, heartbroken, pointed at Rong Che: “In the end, you still do not trust your mother. If you trusted your mother, how could you doubt her?”

Empress Dowager Su’s words fell, and she wept in sadness.

Rong Che, with a guilty heart, looked towards Empress Dowager Su and said softly: “Mother, this son will no longer doubt you. Please do not be angry anymore.”

The Empress Dowager suddenly raised her eyes towards Rong Che and said: “But now you have implicated your sister, do you know? Originally, when your sister shot Princess Yong, the clan wouldn’t have intervened in this matter. But you, in one command, demoted your sister to a commoner.”

Hearing the Empress Dowager’s words, Rong Che began to regret. Although he was jealous and envied his sister’s favor with their mother, she was, after all, his own sister.

“Then I will rescind the previous command.”

Empress Dowager Su, both heartbroken and pained, finally rose and looked at Rong Che: “Forget it, leave this matter to me. I only hope the Emperor won’t doubt me again. You are my son, without you as the Emperor, how could I be the Empress Dowager? So everything I do is for the Emperor’s good.”

Hearing the Empress Dowager’s words, Rong Che was moved to speak: “Mother, this son will never doubt you again. I will certainly trust you.”

The Empress Dowager did not want to say much more on this matter. She needed someone to check on Jin’er’s condition. Although Jin’er was not clever, she was, after all, her daughter.

As she was leaving, the Empress Dowager did not forget to remind Rong Che: “Later, write a decree of self-indictment, write it sincerely, expressing your regret for what you did to Rong Ling.”

After finishing, Empress Dowager Su left with her people. In the back chamber, Rong Che’s face turned grim. Although he knew that things had come to this point and this was the only thing to do, he felt an indignant frustration. He, an Emperor, was actually coerced by the clan—what a situation.

Three days later, the New Emperor issued a decree of self-indictment to the people of the world, confessing his previous wrongdoings and expressing that in the future, he would certainly respect and care for his Uncle, never making such a mistake again.

As for the Fifth Princess Rong Qianjin, after being flogged thirty times, she was left with only one breath of life. However, despite having only one breath, she was still sent out of the palace.
