Chapter 200: Chapter 142: The Agricultural College’s Special Recruitment Questions

As Shu Yao slept peacefully, her carnation-pink lips were slightly parted. The delicate curve of her Cupid’s bow added a touch of childlike stubbornness to her refined features.

Her pure and innocent look was deceptive, making it easy to overlook the rebellious and untamable spirit she kept hidden deep inside. Yet, when these two sides of her emerged at once, they didn’t clash in the slightest.

The warmth in Qin Shiwei’s deep, dark-green eyes intensified, growing tender and affectionate, their depths holding a stunning, luminous gleam.

He raised a hand, unable to resist. His fingers, long and clean with well-defined knuckles, curled slightly as he moved to graze her lips, but he froze mid-motion.

It’s unclear what came to mind, but his gaze chilled, and the very air around him grew cold, as if a winter storm was bearing down.

When he saw the woman on the sofa furrow her brow and let out an uneasy whimper, Qin Shiwei hastily reined in his intimidating presence.

Shu Yao’s eyes fluttered open, and the first thing she saw was the flustered look on his face.

’He looked like a child who’d been caught doing something wrong.’

"You’re back." Her lips, which had begun to curve into a smile, suddenly froze. Shu Yao leaned in closer. "Why do I smell blood? Are you hurt?"

Her dark eyes filled with concern.

"No... It’s not mine." Qin Shiwei’s hand loosely clenched into a fist, his gaze evasive.

Shu Yao sat up, her previously sleepy voice suddenly tense. "Don’t tell me... you found something at the Austin family’s estate and a fight broke out?"

Qin Shiwei let out a chuckle.

"No," he said, denying her theory. "The investigation team formed by the Imperial Family found nothing."

A problem had clearly occurred, yet they’d found nothing.

This in itself pointed to an even bigger issue: the Austin family was most likely hiding something, or they had some ulterior motive.

"The issue you raised in your official report is indeed the greatest internal threat the Austin family currently faces."

It took Shu Yao a moment. "Which issue?"

Qin Shiwei suppressed a smile. "’A sick cat handed the family’s power over to a pack of dogs.’"

The Austin family possesses a noble Beastial Bloodline, second only to the Imperial Family. Upon full awakening, they become ferocious tigers wielding the Thunder Ability.

The current Austin Family Master, Asher Austin, was a force to be reckoned with in his youth, excelling in both technology and military affairs. But as he’s aged, he’s lost his edge, becoming utterly infatuated with a woman who possesses a hyena bloodline.

After his first wife passed away, he promptly married his mistress and even added his new wife’s entire clan to the Austin family registry. A classic case of one person’s success elevating their entire entourage.

To be fair, his new wife’s family is quite capable.

Take Antoine, for instance—the new wife’s younger brother, which makes him the Austin Family Master’s brother-in-law. The man is a remarkably fast learner. In just a few years, he went from a complete novice in science and information technology to the Chief Engineer of the Main Brain, even developing several of his own patents, which are now protected by Federation Law.

Edgar is the son of the Austin Family Master and his second wife. It was confirmed that he didn’t inherit the Austin Beastial Bloodline; instead, he got his mother’s hyena bloodline. Despite being an Austin, he’s always felt inferior because of this and deeply envies Yerman, who inherited their father’s superior lineage.

"Yerman is the son of the Austin Family Master and his first wife," Qin Shiwei continued, glancing at his clenched fist. "He’s a warmonger, obsessed with the military, and is always looking for a chance to prove himself. He couldn’t care less about family matters. I taught him a lesson in the fighting pits today."

He must have hit him pretty hard; otherwise, he wouldn’t have come back smelling of Yerman’s blood.

Shu Yao offered her sympathies. "The poor little tiger."

Qin Shiwei sat beside the sofa, watching her run a hand through her hair, and couldn’t suppress a smile.

"Are you hungry? I didn’t cook today, so I didn’t bring you any food. All I have is a bottle of nutrient solution I kept warm with my body heat." Shu Yao pulled the bottle from her clothes and gave it a little shake. "It’ll have to do."

’How could this be "making do"?’ To Qin Shiwei, anything from her was wonderful.

He took the nutrient solution, ready to down it in one gulp, but after the first mouthful, he noticed the taste was off.

It had an herbal aftertaste.

Qin Shiwei raised an eyebrow, a curious expression on his face. He held no suspicions, however, and as he went to take another drink, Shu Yao spoke.

"You haven’t been sleeping well, which is probably related to your unstable spiritual power. Remember how I said I’d mix up some medicine for you?" Shu Yao clambered onto his lap, playfully swinging her slender legs behind her. "The medicine doesn’t taste great, but it works wonders."
