Chapter 207: Chapter 143: Because There Was No Second Seed Before

Lin Ziyin took the seeds and broken shells and left in a hurry, presumably to go back and conduct her research.

Meanwhile, one of Li Hancheng’s group members stared blankly at the milky-white, cone-shaped seed in his hand. The thought of some delicious snack must have crossed his mind, as he couldn’t help but gulp and say:

"It looks delicious."

Wen Miaomiao said, "You probably shouldn’t eat it."

"Didn’t they just say it’s the seed of a fruit tree? Lots of fruit tree seeds are edible!"

Wen Miaomiao remained unconvinced.

But egged on by his group members, Li Hancheng borrowed a knife from Shu Yao and scraped off a tiny bit of the white kernel.

Just a tiny amount wouldn’t compromise the seed’s viability.

Besides, they still had follow-up research to do.

Seeing Li Hancheng about to pop the shavings into his mouth, Wen Miaomiao anxiously cried out, "You really shouldn’t eat that! What if it’s poisonous!"

"It’s probably not poisonous," Li Hancheng hesitated for a moment. Then, under the expectant gazes of his group members, he decisively put the shavings in his mouth. The next second, his face contorted. "Fuck, it’s so bitter!"

Unlike his group members, Wen Miaomiao watched him nervously, as if she could sense what was about to happen.

Sure enough, less than three seconds later, Li Hancheng’s complexion took a turn for the worse.

He suddenly clutched his throat, convulsing and foaming at the mouth as he collapsed to the ground!

He lay on the floor, the whites of his eyes rolled back, still twitching uncontrollably.

Song Xiaoxing and the other group members were scared stiff by the sudden turn of events, screaming Li Hancheng’s name into the camera.

Wen Miaomiao quickly ran into the courtyard to get help.

Wen Youran was called over, only to find that shortly after Shu Yao gave Li Hancheng an injection, Li Hancheng had already regained consciousness.

It was a false alarm!

Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Only Li Hancheng himself knew he had almost been a goner!

"Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey!" Li Hancheng, his face pale and his lips turning a dark shade of purple, tried to spit out the bitter taste in his mouth. Still shaken, he said, "It really is poisonous! Wait, my tongue..."

It was numb and swollen, and he could no longer speak clearly.

Unable to close his mouth around his swollen tongue, Li Hancheng was on the verge of tears.

Jiang Fei and Mrs. Jiang heard the commotion and rushed over.

"Guzzin... An..." He was trying to say "Cousin, Auntie." Sob!

It looked as though Li Hancheng had half a thick, hard baguette stuffed in his mouth, a truly comical sight.

"Bwahahaha—" Jiang Fei burst out laughing shamelessly.

"You’re still laughing?!" Mrs. Jiang smacked him straight. "Hurry up and get him to the hospital!"

On the way to the hospital, Song Xiaoxing and the other group members tried to console Li Hancheng.

"Li Hancheng, send us your location when you get to the hospital. We’ll all come visit you!"

Li Hancheng: "..." ’Are they coming to laugh at me?’

Song Xiaoxing continued, "You’re a hero this time! Personally testing the poison is a huge contribution to our group’s research! Don’t get discharged too quickly, you have to wait for us! And make sure you take good care of the seed specimen!"

Li Hancheng: "..." ’So now I’m a research subject for the group, just like the seed! I’m so sad, I wanna cry!’

Li Hancheng’s tongue was too swollen and numb for him to speak, so he sent Song Xiaoxing a text message instead:

"Mr. Song, you should have your father—in his capacity as the Dean of the Imperial University Agricultural College—issue a formal statement to all the students with special admission. Tell them not to be reckless and taste the seeds after opening them. Otherwise, someone could actually die!"

Then he added another message: "There’s more. We can talk about it when you guys get to the hospital."

Shu Yao had done their group a huge favor—she had even saved his life. Proposing to his group leader and the other members that they add Shu Yao’s name to their research findings was only fair.
