Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 189 - 181: Procaine

Chapter 189: Chapter 181: Procaine

He insisted on staying to see what she was really up to.

’How is she going to reattach a severed tendon?’

Bai Zhi looked at Hu Feng and let out a long, silent sigh. She’d never been able to handle him. Hu Feng was the kind of person that neither carrot nor stick worked on; he was not someone you could easily boss around.

’Besides, they’re together day in and day out now. There are some things I probably can’t hide even if I want to. And since I can’t hide them, I might as well be upfront about it.’

"Fine, you can stay. But while I’m performing the treatment, you are not to interrupt me. You can watch, but you must remain quiet. Can you do that?"

Hu Feng sat down in a chair without even looking at her and said nonchalantly, "I’m only staying to get some peace and quiet. What else did you think I wanted to do?"

’What else? Aren’t you just trying to see how skilled I am and whether I have what it takes to cure your amnesia? As if I don’t know what you’re really thinking.’

Of course, Bai Zhi kept those thoughts to herself. "That would be best." She walked to the table, picked up her cloth bag, and returned to Meng Nan’s side. In a low voice, she said, "Brother Meng, I hope you can keep today’s treatment a secret for me. I don’t want to become the center of public attention; I just want to live an ordinary life. I’m not a doctor, just a normal person who knows a little about medicine. Do you understand what I mean?"

Meng Nan smiled. "I didn’t quite understand the first part, but I get what you mean now. You don’t want to become famous for your exceptional medical skills, you just want to live a quiet life, free from worldly troubles, right?"

Bai Zhi nodded. "Yes, that’s exactly it. I don’t want to be a Divine Doctor, nor do I want to be seen as some kind of savior. I just want to quietly look after my mother and live a peaceful, carefree life."

Meng Nan was a bit puzzled. ’This girl before me is not even thirteen. Don’t most girls her age dream of being the center of attention? Don’t they all want to live exciting, thrilling lives? Why are her thoughts so different? It’s as if she’s already experienced that kind of life and has grown weary of it.’

How could Meng Nan know that, in modern times, Bai Zhi had been the top doctor at Mingxing Hospital? Her surgical schedule was booked solid three months in advance. She spent twenty out of twenty-four hours a day in the operating room, and at one point, she went three consecutive months without ever going home.

Other people could travel on their own two feet, see the sights with their own eyes, and experience how vibrant and diverse the world was. But she had neither the time nor the energy for that. Her only option was a form of soul travel where she could see the world in her sleep—and that had ended in an accident.

’In this life, I’m going to start over. I don’t want to live such an exhausting life again.’

Meng Nan nodded solemnly. "I promise you."

She gave a faint smile, her eyes shining with a brilliance so dazzling that Meng Nan was lost in a daze for a moment.

"I believe you," she said to him. "Lie down. We’re about to begin."

Meng Nan suddenly grew nervous. He had just lain down when he sat right back up. "Is it going to hurt a lot?"

She gave him a sidelong glance, a half-smile playing on her lips. "Did it hurt when the tiger bit you? Were you scared then?"

Meng Nan shook his head. "I’ve forgotten. I don’t know where I found the courage back then. I don’t even remember if it hurt."

She took the procaine from her cloth bag, a clear liquid in a small glass bottle. She held the bottle up and waved it in front of him. "With this, it won’t hurt."
