Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 240: Unparalleled Vileness

Chapter 240 -232: Unparalleled Vileness

“I ran into a White striped Tiger back then. I nearly lost my life to it. Thankfully, Lord Meng risked his own life to save me, and that’s the only reason I’m still here. I wouldn’t dare go back to a place like that unless I had no other choice.”

Just then, a villager chimed in, “So you’re the ones who killed that White striped Tiger? A while back, I heard from a friend that some young man from Baiyang Village went up the mountain to cut firewood and found a huge tiger that someone had killed. We didn’t believe it at the time. Who would kill a big tiger and just leave it there? The hide alone is worth a fortune. It was you, wasn’t it?”

Bai Zhi offered a faint smile. “Lord Meng and I were both injured at the time, so we were in no state to deal with the carcass. By the time Hu Feng went back for it, the body was already gone, so we just let it be.”

The villagers were all too aware of the dangers on Luoying Mountain. Realizing those potatoes were from there, they immediately gave up any ideas of getting some for themselves.

Although Bai Zhi’s explanation was logical and coherent, not everyone believed her.

Liu, for one, didn’t believe it.

“Zhi, stop trying to fool us. That White striped Tiger is a ferocious beast. A scholar like Lord Meng? You expect us to believe he could kill it?”

Someone who heard this thought it made sense. “That’s right. Lord Meng looks like a frail scholar. How could he possibly snatch you from a tiger’s jaws, let alone kill it? It’s just unbelievable.”

Bai Zhi raised her voice. “Lord Meng didn’t kill the tiger, Hu Feng did! If you don’t believe me, go ask Hu Feng yourself. Besides, even though Lord Meng may look like a refined gentleman, he knows martial arts. His guard was there too. With Hu Feng and the Jin guard working together, killing a single tiger is hardly that surprising.”

At the mention of Hu Feng, the two doubters immediately fell silent. Everyone in the village knew Hu Feng was skilled in martial arts, but no one knew just how skilled he truly was.

The last time, he had snapped both of Bai Dazhu’s arms as easily as if they were dry twigs…

Bai Zhi looked at Liu and said with a cold smile, “If you don’t believe me, go ask Hu Feng. He’ll tell you the truth.”

The thought of Hu Feng’s ice-cold, ruthless face sent a chill down Liu’s spine. She laughed nervously, “No, no, that’s not necessary. You said Hu Feng killed it, so of course I believe you.” Her eyes dropped to the sack of potatoes at Zhao Lan’s feet, and she added with a sycophantic grin, “Why don’t you let me take these potatoes home? I can help you sell them. I guarantee I’ll get them sold fast and for a high price.”

With that, she reached down to grab the sack of potatoes.

Bai Zhi immediately grabbed her wrist and shoved her away. “What now? Are you resorting to robbery in broad daylight? Open your eyes and look around. This isn’t the Bai Family’s home, and plenty of people are watching.”

Liu’s face flushed with anger and embarrassment. She wanted to lash out but couldn’t bear to give up. “Zhi, what nonsense are you talking about? How is this robbery? Didn’t I just say I’d help you sell them? It’s not like I have anything else to do for the next few days.”

Bai Zhi waved her off. “No, thank you. We can’t afford your ‘kindness.’ You should go cool off somewhere else.”

Bai Zhi turned to Zhao Lan. “Mom, are they washed?”

Zhao Lan nodded. “They’re all washed. Let’s go.”

The mother and daughter lifted the heavy sack of potatoes and walked away without a backward glance, leaving Liu and Old Mrs. Bai so furious they stood there pointing and cursing after them for the time it takes an incense stick to burn.

The other villagers watched with scornful looks on their faces. Who didn’t know what those two were after? Their shamelessness was truly unparalleled.
