Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Picked Up a Mecha
Under the female officer’s dumbfounded gaze, Yang Bo’s Battle Armor emitted a soft glow as he charged straight ahead. Disregarding the grassland entirely, he smashed the tall grass into pieces along his path. She quickly hurried after him. The grass here was so tall that even when the lower stalks were pulverized, there was no visible trace from above. If she didn’t follow closely, the surrounding vegetation would simply collapse and swallow the path again.
Yang Bo whistled as he moved at high speed, using the sound to detect any surrounding movements, with the female officer close on his heels. After racing at lightning speed for half an hour, he stopped. "Are we going the wrong way? Why haven’t we reached the mountainous area yet?"
"We are still about five hundred kilometers away from the mountains," she replied.
Hearing this, Yang Bo almost drew his Energy Weapon to hack at the woman. He thought, "Why is she like this? It’s like she rarely interacts with people. She doesn’t speak unless asked. Couldn’t she have reminded me earlier?"
"Let me lead the way. It’s better for you to stay in the back. Follow closely," the female officer said. Mimicking Yang Bo, her Battle Armor released a bright light as she charged toward the mountains.
"Uh," Yang Bo muttered. This woman gave him a very strange feeling. However, on second thought, he realized that perhaps this society was just like that. Looking back at the lower-class people he used to know, they had rarely interacted even when living in the same building.
Ten minutes later, as they passed a certain spot, Yang Bo suddenly shouted, "Officer, wait a moment." His whistling had detected a Mecha hidden in the distant grass.
Hearing his voice, the female officer was somewhat confused. By the time she turned around, she saw him heading in a different direction. Upon following him to the spot, she also saw the Mecha.
It was a Ninth Generation Mecha, and it looked as though it hadn’t been dropped here for very long. Yang Bo figured it out after a moment of careful thought. Perhaps because of the incident that occurred here, the player in the Mecha game had likely been disconnected.
"This Mecha is useless, isn’t it?" the female officer asked as she looked at it. Every Mecha had its own security key. She knew full well that these machines operated on remote Control Systems, making them incredibly difficult for anyone on the planet to hijack. They were specially customized.
"Let me try fixing it first," Yang Bo whispered.
The female officer was stunned. He could actually repair a Mecha? Furthermore, since when did repairing one grant access permissions? If that were the case, Mecha companies would have gone bankrupt long ago, especially since these models were specially manufactured.
"Interesting, very interesting," she said, watching the busy Yang Bo with immense curiosity.
Yang Bo did know how to perform Mecha Maintenance. Under the guise of dismantling parts here and there, he was actually using Metalization on his hands to interface with the Mecha. He even crawled underneath it and used full-body Metalization to acquire the access permissions.
It took him eight minutes this time to gain control of the Mecha. However, he didn’t reveal his success right away. Instead, he forcefully pried open a few sections and shoved his hands inside to pretend he was still tinkering. As for whether he was afraid the female officer would notice anything suspicious? What was there to fear? He wasn’t even acting in his true identity right now.
Half an hour later, the cockpit suddenly popped open, leaving the female officer dumbfounded. The next second, she saw Yang Bo enter the Mecha’s control cabin, and shortly after, the machine began moving its arms and legs.
"Done," Yang Bo said, clapping his hands as he hopped out. He then proceeded to reattach the parts he had dismantled earlier one by one. "Get in, Officer."
The Mecha was currently lying in the grass. Although the cockpit wasn’t spacious, fitting two people inside wasn’t a major issue.
The female officer paused in a rare moment of shock before asking, "You even know how to pilot a Mecha?"
"I’ve seen my colleagues training. Hurry up, Officer." Yang Bo made up an excuse as he maneuvered the Mecha’s upper body into a sitting position.
Hearing this, she hesitated for a moment before climbing into the cockpit and sitting behind him. Although it was a bit cramped for the two of them, Yang Bo still had enough room to operate the controls.
The next second, the Mecha immediately clambered to its feet. It was equipped with a Laser Cannon, which Yang Bo tested out briefly, finding no issues. Then, the Rocket Backpack ignited, sending the entire Mecha leaping into the air. Taking this opportunity, Yang Bo surveyed the surrounding terrain and confirmed there were indeed mountains in the distance. Once the Mecha landed, he steered it into a sprint toward the mountainous area.
"This player is quite the broke guy to be using this kind of Mecha for gaming." Yang Bo couldn’t help but complain about the Mecha’s inability to fly, completely forgetting just how trash his own Mecha was in the game.
Donned in her Battle Armor, the female officer stared in astonishment at Yang Bo’s proficient piloting. She wondered if this was really what someone who had merely ’seen colleagues training’ looked like.
The Mecha’s radar was functioning normally, and Yang Bo operated it with expert precision—a clear benefit of being a Mechanician. However, due to the electronic jamming and shielding from the Warships above, the data provided by the radar was rather blurry.
Suddenly, alarms blared inside the cockpit. "There are Mutants!" the female officer shouted from behind him.
"Don’t worry. They probably haven’t seen us yet. If they had, they would be running by now," Yang Bo replied unhurriedly. Since he was piloting a Mecha, any Mutant would have to be insane to act cocky in front of him.
Despite his nonchalant words, Yang Bo still aimed the Laser Cannon and fired a few shots at the Mutants.
Mecha Maintenance +4!
To Yang Bo’s speechlessness, the shots actually landed, and he was even rewarded with Mecha Maintenance points. He thought, "Do these Mutants just sit at home dismantling Mechas all day? Seriously."
The female officer fell silent. Yang Bo had just manually aimed the Laser Cannon and managed to kill Mutants hiding in the grass over nine hundred meters away. It had to be known that with the Warships in the sky maintaining their electronic jamming and shielding mode, the auto-lock system would find it incredibly difficult to secure a target.
"A Ninth Generation Mecha is definitely better than my third-generation one. The operational fluidity and the functions are superior." After piloting it for a while, Yang Bo felt it was much better than his own third-generation Mecha—though only the one in the game. It still wasn’t as easy to use as the third-generation Mecha in his spatial storage. However, this Mecha came equipped with a Laser Cannon, which gave it an edge over his own.
"Why didn’t you become a Mecha Master? Isn’t it a bit of a waste to use such great skills repairing Warplanes?" the female officer asked, watching his smooth movements. She could tell this low-ranking soldier possessed incredibly strong Mecha piloting abilities.
"I like Warplanes. I don’t like Mechas," Yang Bo answered bluntly. In reality, it had nothing to do with liking Warplanes—he had never even flown one.
A rapid string of alarms rang out. Yang Bo glanced at the radar and saw quite a few Mutants popping up in the vicinity. Unfazed, he ordered the Mecha to charge forward, first putting some distance between himself and the surrounding Mutants.
These Mutants were communicating through some unknown means, attempting to encircle him in a pincer movement. The moment Yang Bo moved, the Mutants moved as well, but this time, they maintained a farther distance.
Controlling the Mecha’s Rocket Backpack, Yang Bo soared into the sky while operating the Laser Cannon with his other hand. The Laser Cannon fired continuous beams of Laser from mid-air.
Mecha Maintenance +2!
Mecha Maintenance +2!
Out of eight shots, only two managed to kill their targets. As soon as the Mecha landed, the Rocket Backpack ignited again, widening the gap between them and the Mutants even further.
The female officer was rendered completely speechless. Manual firing was entirely different from auto-locking. Auto-locking systems would automatically adjust the Laser Cannon’s power output based on the detection intensity. Manual firing, on the other hand, required the pilot not only to aim but also to manually calibrate the power. While automatic firing could unleash two hundred shots per second, manual firing was highly inconsistent. Regardless, hitting moving Mutants while the Mecha was traveling at high speed was exceptionally difficult.
"He is a real talent," she thought silently.
