Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Arrival at Base 16
"If I had known Iron Bull ate Energy Stones, I would have stolen some from the warship," Yang Bo thought. "But there seemed to be debris falling from the warship. I wonder if the surviving warplanes retrieved them?"
He hadn’t expected Iron Bull to lick and consume Energy Stones. If he had known, he would have brought some back for it.
"It still needs to recharge. Looks like I have to go out, find a mecha, and strip its battery," he muttered. Mechas generally used nuclear batteries, with a small minority utilizing Antimatter Batteries. Antimatter Batteries offered explosive power and long endurance, but they had one glaring flaw—they were prone to spontaneous detonation. If a mecha took a hit, it was highly likely to turn into a bomb. Of course, Yang Bo had only heard about this; he had never experienced such an explosion himself. Naturally, anyone who had experienced one probably wouldn’t be around to talk about it, as they would have been blown to bits—much like how faulty parachutes never received negative reviews.
With a plan in mind, Yang Bo activated his Invisibility and went out to hunt for a mecha.
Iron Bull watched him come in and immediately leave again. Its small eyes held a hint of confusion, but it made no move to follow him. Yang Bo guessed that Iron Bull had definitely been injured by that mutant and was currently recuperating.
"I’ll see if I can find some Energy Stones to nurse Iron Bull back to health, and then take it for a spin in the Underworld!" Yang Bo planned internally.
"I’ll gather more mecha batteries, dismantle them, and dump the radioactive materials into the underground river to let others farm monsters for me.
"Later, when I enter the game, I’ll switch to a new mecha, infiltrate the Justice Gang, and trick those idiots into bringing all their Advanced mechas over to Iron Bull as a free food delivery service!" Remembering the Justice Gang that had been keeping tabs on him, he decided to put their Advanced mechas to good use.
Yang Bo’s speed while using Invisibility wasn’t particularly fast. The Invisibility ability didn’t grant any speed boosts; it relied entirely on his own physical constitution, though his physique was currently quite robust. Above, warplanes roared through the sky. These unmanned drones seemed to be searching for someone and rarely fired their Lasers. Occasionally, a drone would fire a Laser at a specific location, instantly drawing a swarm of other drones to the area. Meanwhile, there were no warships visible in the sky.
"I should check out Sentry Base 16," Yang Bo thought as he gazed at the distant outpost. "Perhaps there are hidden rooms with good loot inside—they definitely wouldn’t leave the good stuff out in the open. Plus, I wonder what kind of energy source the base uses?"
Two hours later, he arrived at Sentry Base 16. The place looked utterly devastated. The Laser Cannons mounted on top had been reduced to scrap metal, their barrels warped and twisted, while some had been completely dismantled and carried off. The main gates were destroyed. The exterior armor remained mostly intact, though it was heavily scarred.
Yang Bo entered Base 16. The once spacious and brightly lit hall was now littered with garbage and unrecognizable debris—likely the remains of the dead, though it was impossible to tell if they belonged to Mutants or soldiers. Scattered around were other broken items, but anything that could be detached and taken was gone. He had no idea what the Mutants even wanted with that stuff.
"Those broke bastards even took the chairs?" Yang Bo muttered. He remembered there being chairs here. He didn’t know why mechas needed chairs in the first place, but regardless, they were missing now.
Arriving at the area where he used to store his mecha, he found it completely stripped and destroyed as well. Originally, each mecha had its own individual cabin. Now, all the cabin doors were smashed, the mechas were gone, and all the spare parts were missing.
"There must be other areas. It couldn’t have been completely destroyed!" Yang Bo thought.
Suddenly, a burst of Energy Fluctuations erupted from somewhere nearby. Yang Bo hurried over, remaining in Invisibility. Upon arriving, he discovered at least five or six hundred Mutants gathered together. In front of them was a corridor blocked by a silver-white door. Several Mutants were currently spewing fire to burn through it.
"These guys have Fire Superpowers," Yang Bo noted. Judging by their attire, these Mutants belonged to four different tribes. It wasn’t that each tribe only consisted of one type of mutant; a single tribe could have several varieties, differentiated simply by the color of their Battle Armor. For instance, when the Tiger-faced King annexed a neighboring tribe, the assimilated members simply repainted their Battle Armor to match the colors of the Tiger-faced King’s tribe.
"Can you guys do this or not? It’s been a whole day. If you drag this out any longer, the Alliance’s warships will be here!" one of them yelled.
Yang Bo observed the four obvious tribal leaders. None of them were equipped with Biological Mechas; instead, they were clad in full sets of Battle Armor. However, nearly half of the Mutants present were equipped with Biological Mechas. Perhaps the leaders had simply left their Biological Mechas at home. In truth, piloting a Biological Mecha out on this open prairie turned one into a walking target. It was much safer to wear Energy Armor and dive into the tall grass, making it far harder to be spotted. Moreover, it simply wasn’t cost-effective for a lone mutant to fire a Rail Cannon. Even if the Rail Cannon had ample energy, the hardware itself had a limited lifespan.
"If you’re so capable, why don’t you get your own people to do it? My men are working their asses off to break through this defense, and you’re just standing there making snide remarks. The hell is wrong with you?"
As expected, Mutants had notoriously short tempers. Given that they possessed beast-like traits, they naturally adhered to the law of the jungle where the strong preyed on the weak. The concept of compromise didn’t exist in their world, making their animalistic tendencies all the more pronounced.
"Alright, you two, stop arguing. Why hasn’t Black Blade General arrived yet? He’s an expert in this field," a woman’s voice rang out.
Yang Bo took a closer look and was startled. The woman was two and a half meters tall and built like a silverback gorilla. Even though she was entirely encased in Battle Armor, absolutely no one would look at her massive physique and assume she was a woman—yet her voice was undeniably feminine.
"It would be great if we could just crack open this base’s Energy System. There are bound to be plenty of Energy Stones down there."
"And plenty of Rare Metals and Energy Metals, too."
Listening to the Mutants’ chatter, Yang Bo finally realized that this was the Sentry Base’s main energy center.
"No way, I need to get in there first and take a look," Yang Bo plotted internally. "It would be even better if there’s an armory down there. I could plant a few kilograms of Hydrogen Bombs or nuclear explosives, blow all you bastards to kingdom come, and farm you for experience. Ideally, I could farm the Fire Series control.
"Just recently, some guy gave me Gravity Control; snagging Fire Element Control would be perfect. I don’t care about water or the other elements. According to the Five Elements, I already know electricity and metal, so I should lean towards the Yang Attribute. I should definitely be able to farm fire from them.
"This can’t be the only entrance. There must be ventilation shafts or something similar. I’ll go back out and investigate."
Staring at the massive crowd of Mutants, Yang Bo resolved to find a way to kill them all.
After noting the location of the main control room, he headed back outside, naturally using Disguise to take on the appearance of a mutant. Since all the Mutants were heavily armored anyway, he fit right in. He strolled around until he reached the roof of the sentry post and spotted one of the destroyed Laser Cannons. After carefully inspecting the surroundings, he was certain that the Laser Cannon had to have a maintenance hatch. Otherwise, if it malfunctioned during a battle, would an engineer really be expected to climb all the way up here to fix it?
