Chapter 492: Chapter 301: Life or Death, It All Comes Down to This One Strike

「One day.」

After a long day of training, everyone from Huai City First Middle School went home to rest and prepare for the next day’s grind.

In stark contrast, the lights of the Shanda University Affiliated School’s Battle Hall were burning bright.

Unlike most high schools in Shanyou Province, all of Shanda University Affiliated School’s facilities were benchmarked against Hengzhong Middle School. Its Battle Hall was also the only one among all of Shanyou’s high schools that remained lit 24 hours a day.

Shanda University Affiliated School was a fully residential institution with no day students. Every night, after the eleven o’clock lights-out order, students had only two places they could be: asleep in their dorms or pulling an all-nighter in the Battle Hall. All other activities were strictly forbidden.

Pulling an all-nighter in the Shanda University Affiliated School’s Battle Hall wasn’t so simple. Not only did students have to submit an application to a teacher in advance, but they also had to unconditionally obey the teacher’s arrangements.

For example, if a teacher decided that a student should train a specific Skill for a certain Pet Beast during their all-nighter, the student had to comply completely.

You couldn’t do less, you couldn’t do more, and you certainly couldn’t do anything different.

Once, a top-ten student in their year disobeyed a teacher’s arrangements and pulled an unauthorized all-nighter, having their Pet Beast practice an unapproved Skill. As a result, they received a severe punishment, were publicly criticized before the entire school, and were ultimately expelled.

For this very reason, if the number of students wanting to train overnight at Shanda University Affiliated School exceeded the Battle Hall’s capacity, teachers would prioritize approving students with good records of obedience over high-achieving but defiant ones.

In a place like this, teeming with top students, geniuses were nothing rare.

Unmanageable students would be mercilessly replaced, while those who were good at obeying could often obtain resources and, in turn, perform even better.

Under this culture of discipline, Shanda University Affiliated School had forged a student body that completely obeyed the orders of its teachers and coaches. With this, it stood as the number one powerhouse in Shanyou Province, holding a commanding lead.

It brought together the most outstanding students from all of Shanyou Province, as well as an Elite team of teachers who ranked among the best in all of Yu Dian.

As long as they worked hard and followed the rules, every student could receive personal guidance from their homeroom teacher.

These Gold Medal Teachers, often retired Alliance Members, would create one-on-one training plans for their students. As long as the plans were executed meticulously, any student could become better than they were before.

As for the opinions of the students or their Pet Beasts, those were rarely worth mentioning.

After all, how could a student possibly compare to a veteran teacher with a discerning eye?

Their naive views weren’t even worth discussing, as discussion itself was a waste of time.

All that was necessary was to make them follow the perfect training plan to the letter. Once they reached a certain level, they would naturally understand how naive they used to be and that the path provided by their teachers was the only correct solution.

Since they would understand sooner or later, there was no need to waste breath at such a critical time.

As for a Pet Beast’s opinion, that was even more irrelevant. Why keep a disobedient Pet Beast? Just break the contract and replace it.

In fact, most students and Pet Beasts agreed with this.

Under this pervasive indoctrination, individuals, in order to adapt to the environment, would internalize these forced external constraints as their own opinions and values.

Every year, Shanda University Affiliated School would have a few maverick students, but after conditioning, corporal punishment, and a harsh dose of reality, every single one chose to fall in line with the teachers’ path.

After all, forging your own path was far less simple and efficient than following a ready-made one. Since their Pet Beasts would become strong in the end anyway, why go through all the thankless effort?

As for thinking and innovation, that could be left to the Beastmasters. The teachers at Shanda University Affiliated School would always be the first to disseminate new breakthroughs in the Beast Taming Realm; the students would not be left out...

Thoughts swirled in Wang Haokun’s mind.

Having just completed the all-night training session with his Pet Beast, he was lying by the side of the arena, panting. His sweat formed a small puddle on the floor, reflecting the pure white lights.

There was a time when Wang Haokun had seen the lights of the all-night training sessions as a symbol of honor.

But now, he found the light a little cold.

As the vice-captain of Shanda University Affiliated School’s competition team, Wang Haokun was a quintessential Shanda Affiliated student.

His middle school records were originally in Yu County. Later, his parents had to pull many strings to transfer his household registration and school enrollment.

Wang Haokun’s family was not well-off, so from a young age, he knew how difficult it was to get the opportunity to study at such a top-tier institution.

Because of this, when he first entered Shanda University Affiliated School, he displayed a level of self-discipline and diligence that far surpassed his classmates, making many of the ’local’ students feel inadequate in comparison.

In the beginning, he too was full of his own ideas, just like every other newcomer to Shanda University Affiliated School.

The Gold Medal Teachers’ lessons were simple and precise, but this paradoxically left him with even more questions.

’Why must a Yu Dian Dog start its training with Rock-Breaking Teeth?’

’Why must a Stone Armor Rhinoceros be centered around Defense Skills? Wouldn’t improving its agility while maintaining its defense raise its potential ceiling even higher?’

’Why can’t a Flash Gold Sparrow learn any Defense Skills? Since it’s so frail, shouldn’t it be made tougher?’

Full of questions, Wang Haokun went to the teacher’s office for answers.

However, Lei Ji didn’t discuss it with him. Instead, he gave him a merciless dressing-down. Wang Haokun was dumbfounded. Back in his middle school, teachers had loved students who asked questions.

A tall young man like him was berated until he was bawling, wiping away his tears.

When he had more or less cried himself out, Lei Ji wiped his tears for him while speaking in a sincere and earnest tone.

"In the Classical Era, a hundred schools of thought contended, and every path had its own theories. But only the Beast Taming system of the Boya Alliance is the optimal solution. It is the one and only path that allowed us to repel the Abyssal and let civilization survive to this day. This is the choice of history.
