Chapter 404: Insect Race Warship

Meanwhile, in the starry expanse outside.

Inside the central control room of the Level 4 battleship, the *Giant Horn*.

Piercing alarms blared nonstop.

The virtual screen displayed countless insects pouring out of a wormhole.

A shocked operator reported to Masedo.

“Sir, we’ve detected a wormhole behind us! A massive swarm is coming through!”

“Damn it! Those bastards jumped right behind us! Order all ships to reverse course and arm all weapons, now!”

Masedo roared in terror.

“Yes, sir!”

“Sir, a message from Light Tower Base! The *Kunpeng* and its escort ships have already departed.”

Another operator reported in a panic.

“Those idiots! They’re departing now? Tell them to turn back! Turn back!”

Masedo was about to go insane with rage when he heard the news.

Soon, the ships had turned, and all weapons were armed.

“Sir, we’re ready!” the operator reported immediately.

“Attack!”

Masedo gave the order.

All firing ports on the *Giant Horn* and the other ships opened, and their interceptor cannons activated.

The numerous starfighters armed their weapons.

SWOOSH!

A sky full of beams and missiles rained down upon the swarm.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Countless fireworks of destruction bloomed, illuminating the dark, starry sky.

Vast swathes of the swarm were engulfed.

But in the next second, even more insects surged out, charging toward the *Giant Horn*’s fleet.

…

In the central control room of the *Kunpeng*.

Piercing alarms blared nonstop.

Vice Legion Commander Bassaf’s expression was grim to the extreme.

“Sir, what do we do? A huge swarm has been detected outside and is approaching us. Major Masedo is ordering us to make an emergency landing immediately,” an old man with white hair and a wrinkled face, dressed in a major’s uniform, asked anxiously.

Bassaf took a deep breath and said to Du Meier,

“The wormhole opened right inside our lines. Do you really think landing will improve the situation? Things will only get worse!”

“You mean…?”

“Change course immediately and force a breakout while their numbers are still manageable. The *Kunpeng* will punch through and activate its FTL drive to escape.”

“What about the other ships?”

Du Meier asked, stunned.

“Forget them. Our top priority right now is to save the *Kunpeng*.”

A ruthless look appeared on Bassaf’s face.

‘If the cargo on the *Kunpeng* is lost, I’m screwed. If the other ships are lost, at worst, I’ll just have to take a little bit of the blame, and that’ll be the end of it.’

“Yes, sir!”

Du Meier understood at once.

The *Kunpeng* immediately turned its prow, angling to break out in a different direction.

But they hadn’t flown for long when the space in the distance twisted violently. A large wormhole materialized, and countless insects poured out.

Piercing alarms blared.

A series of black warning boxes popped up on the screens.

“Damn it, we’ve run right into another wormhole!”

Du Meier reported to Bassaf, his face pale.

“You’re in command here. I’m taking a team out to cover the *Kunpeng*. We’re breaking through.”

With that, Bassaf turned and left immediately.

The massive *Kunpeng* then opened its launch bays one by one.

WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

One after another, Star-Glow fighters flew out.

Immediately after, Bassaf, piloting the Fourth Generation Mechanical God, “Slaughterbringer,” charged out, leading several Third Generation Mechanical Gods.

At that moment, countless insects swarmed toward them.

They opened their maws and fired streams of Pollock Beams at the *Kunpeng*.

The *Kunpeng* immediately activated its Energy Barrier.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The numerous Pollock Beams slammed into the barrier and exploded, sending continuous ripples across its surface.

“You’re courting death!”

Bassaf led the Third Generation Mechanical Gods and charged into the swarm, plunging into their ranks like sharp daggers.

Type-II Black-Shell Insects—each five meters tall, covered in a black carapace, with a pair of black insectoid wings and sharp fangs and claws—pounced on Bassaf and his team.

In an instant, they were sliced apart, splattering viscous fluid everywhere.

Meanwhile, the numerous Star-Glow fighters also unleashed a constant barrage on the swarm, firing beams and missiles.

A large portion of the attacking swarm was instantly wiped out.

The *Kunpeng* suddenly went to full power, accelerating and climbing in altitude.

…

Elsewhere, in the control room of the small spaceship designated T179.

The scanning device was also sounding an alarm.

“Warning: Pollock biological signature detected.”

“Warning: Type-II Black-Shell Insect detected.”

…

“What’s going on? Why is the Insect Race at Guangxiao Planet? Did the front line collapse?”

Qian Wei was dumbfounded.

“That shouldn’t be possible.”

Luoxue refused to believe the front line could have collapsed so easily. If it had, they would have been ordered to evacuate long ago.

“So what do we do now?”

Long Ming asked, looking at Luoxue.

“We need to rendezvous with the *Kunpeng*, or we’re not getting out of here!”

Luoxue replied with a very grave expression.

Just as Long Ming was about to say something, an emergency announcement came over the public channel.

“Emergency announcement: A wormhole has opened in the space around Guangxiao Planet. A massive swarm is pouring in. The *Kunpeng* is attempting a forced breakout and cannot wait for ships that have not yet returned.”

Hearing this announcement, Fu Fuqing slammed his fist on the console and cursed in frustration.

“Bastards!”

The public channel immediately filled with angry voices.

“Fuck, the *Kunpeng* is leaving! What are we supposed to do?”

“Are they abandoning us?”

…

If they weren’t afraid of Vice Legion Commander Bassaf making things difficult for them later, everyone would probably be cursing up a storm.

Long Ming turned to Luoxue and said,

“I’ll go out and cover you!”

“Okay. Be careful.”

Luoxue nodded.

Long Ming turned and left immediately, heading for the emergency exit at the rear of the ship.

Soon, Fu Fuqing opened the emergency exit.

Long Ming flew out, piloting the *Gale*.

…

Meanwhile.

In the *Kunpeng*’s central control room.

Du Meier kept his eyes fixed on the Energy Barrier’s strength readings on the operations screen.

“Energy Barrier strength is down to 53 percent! It’s almost at half!” an operator reported nervously.

“Hold steady! We’re about to break through,” Du Meier said, his expression tense.

“Sir, large-scale swarm detected ahead!” another operator reported anxiously.

“Open all the transport ship’s launch ports! Unleash every missile we have and break through in one push!”

Du Meier ordered decisively.

“Yes, sir!”

The operators immediately entered the commands.

The transport ship’s forward launch ports opened one by one.

WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

Heavy missiles shot out one after another.

Du Meier stared at the optical image display.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Countless explosions ripped through the swarm.

The swarm that had gathered in front of the *Kunpeng* instantly scattered.

“We broke through!” the operators shouted in joyous surprise.

But just then, the scanning device suddenly blared with a piercing alarm.

“Warning: High-intensity Pollock biological signature detected!”

“Warning: Unidentified biological ship detected.”

…

Du Meier was also startled, looking up in astonishment.

A 50-kilometer-long, shuttle-shaped Level 5 Insect Ship emerged. It had six enormous red insect eyes on either side of its head and was constructed from a bizarre mix of white Insect Race flesh and metal, exuding a grotesque aura.

The head of the Insect Ship split open, and arcs of lightning flickered within.

“An Insect Race warship?” an operator said in shock.

“How is that possible? I’ve never heard of the Insect Race having ships!”

Du Meier was utterly shocked.

Just then, Bassaf, seeing the sudden appearance of the Insect Race ship, cried out in shock and fury.

“Oh no!”

SWISH!

The Insect Ship then fired a colossal Pollock Beam at the *Kunpeng*.

BOOM—

The *Kunpeng* was hit instantly.

Its Energy Barrier was pierced straight through.

The Pollock Beam then struck the hull, triggering a massive explosion.

KABOOM—

A gigantic hole was blown through the *Kunpeng*’s hull, and the entire ship began to fall toward the planet below.
