The Forest Feeds No Idle Goblins

Chapter 422 - 334: Mythical Creature

Chapter 422: Chapter 334: Mythical Creature

Several creatures in this world are born with immense power, and some races even pledge allegiance to these powerful beings, gathering around them. Take the Dragon Race, for instance. Mighty Giant Dragons can use Dragon Flame Breath the moment they hatch from a Dragon Egg. As they grow, they develop a formidable Dragon’s Might to intimidate their foes. Many weaker races, and even Two-legged Flying Dragons, choose to live in servitude to Giant Dragons. In the sea, the Giant Beast Kraken is no different. They possess the ability to churn the oceans, leading Fishmen and various Sea Beasts to live in their vicinity.

The Phoenix is much the same. These magical birds can spew scorching flames from the moment of their birth. They are unafraid of the heat of blazing infernos and even delight in dancing within the flames. It is said that Harpies like to reside near Phoenix nests.

Many such powerful creatures exist. As they mature, they slowly awaken their spirituality and gain the ability to communicate with other beings.

Such beings are known as Mythical Creatures, for they are the creatures of myth, said to have been personally crafted by the Creator God to reign over all living things.

And now, a Phoenix Egg had suddenly appeared right before Shire, leaving him stunned. He had already convinced himself otherwise. ’The Feathered Serpent Evil God has been entrenched in the Goblin Kingdom for a long time,’ he’d thought. ’And this area is quite far from Yangjiao Town, so no Adventurer would normally venture this deep into the forest. Besides, there are no wild animals in the areas goblins inhabit, which means no opportunity for Magical Beasts to mutate.’ When he’d entered the cavern, Shire had been prepared to find nothing at all, or at most a common beast or a little snake.

But this surprise was a bit much. The egg of a Mythical Creature, just sitting there in plain sight in the middle of the pool. And according to Fulu, the egg still contained life; it simply hadn’t hatched yet.

"Has the Feathered Serpent God ever snuck out of the Goblin Kingdom in the dead of night for a tryst with a lover before?" Shire asked, turning to the High Priest. The High Priest was also stunned. It was a long moment before he replied, "That... I’ve never seen anything like that. The Feathered Serpent God has a lover?"

"You mean... this is a snake egg laid by the Feathered Serpent God?" The High Priest immediately understood his chief’s implication and peered toward the center of the poison-filled pool.

"No, this thing isn’t a snake egg," Shire said, shaking his head. ’Even if that long worm managed to grow wings, a Phoenix probably wouldn’t give it a second glance.’ He also felt this egg couldn’t belong to the Feathered Serpent God. "This is a Phoenix Egg."

"A Phoenix?" Mountain Xi’ao exclaimed from his perch on Shire’s shoulder. "You mean that giant bird covered in brilliant feathers, with a beautiful long tail, that leaves a trail of sparks when it flies?"

"Yes," Shire confirmed with a nod.

"But I’ve heard the clan elders say that Phoenixes are incredibly powerful creatures! They only live atop giant trees or on mountain peaks. Why would a Phoenix Egg be here?" Mountain Xi’ao flapped the wings on his back, preparing to fly over for a closer look.

"Don’t go yet! We don’t know what effect the poison in that pool might have," Shire immediately stopped Mountain Xi’ao.

But he also desperately wanted to move the Phoenix Egg from the Poison Pool. ’I’ve heard that Phoenix Egg shells are made of mithril,’ he recalled, ’a silver shell covered in candy-blue patterns. That shade of blue is just like the ’Tiffany Blue’ from my past life. Phoenixes are also said to be monogamous, laying only a single egg after many, many years. Before laying, they specifically seek out mithril veins to consume the ore. That’s why Phoenix eggshells are considered excellent materials for Magic Tools—after all, mithril is a crucial component for crafting Magic Items.’

Now, however, the Phoenix Egg’s shell was pure white, as if its color had faded. Shire suspected it was from being steeped in the Feathered Serpent God’s poison. "We have to find a way to get that Phoenix Egg out of the pool, and fast."

"Chief, let us go," the High Priest offered from the side.

"That’s the poison of the Feathered Serpent God. Any goblin who enters will certainly be poisoned." Shire shook his head. He picked up a loose stone from the ground and tossed it into the pool. It hit the surface with a PLUNK, sending out ripples as a cloud of yellow-green smoke billowed up and drifted across the water.

"Chief, we’re only goblins. It doesn’t matter if we’re poisoned to death. New members will be born soon enough, but the Phoenix Egg is important," the High Priest insisted. Now that the Feathered Serpent God had fled, the tribe lacked a powerful guardian. The appearance of the Phoenix Egg could truly fill that void. If they could hatch this egg and raise the chick, the Goblin Tribe might be able to develop in peace. For that, he was willing to sacrifice his own life and those of the other goblins.

"Say no more," Shire said, raising a hand to the High Priest’s shoulder. "I understand what you’re thinking, but I won’t do it."

Shire shook his head calmly. His reason and his principles made him instinctively reject the thought.

"The tribe needs this Phoenix Egg," the High Priest said anxiously, gripping Shire’s hand.

"And the tribe needs every goblin," Shire replied, squeezing the High Priest’s hand firmly to stop him from saying more.

"If it’s just a matter of getting the egg out of the pool, I think I might have an idea," Mountain Xi’ao said, flapping his wings and flying back to hover in front of Shire. "Well, it’s not my idea, exactly. What I mean is, my father might be able to do it."

"Your father?" Shire raised an eyebrow. "The Clan Leader of the little goblins?"
