The Forest Feeds No Idle Goblins

Chapter 424 - 335: The Usage of the Phalanx of Sloth

Chapter 424: Chapter 335: The Usage of the Phalanx of Sloth

"I’ve... I’ve really shrunk?" The Elephant Lord looked around in a daze. Its body was now about the size of an ordinary elephant, though still twice as large as the female elephants in its herd. But compared to its previously colossal frame, this was a massive reduction in size.

"So, what do you think? I told you I had a way to shrink you, even enough to get you inside the Fortress," Shire said, craning his neck to look at the Elephant Lord before him. "Of course, I still need to get more familiar with this thing. I might even be able to make you a little smaller."

He looked at the white finger bone embedded in the Elephant Lord’s back, and new ideas for how to use the thing started forming in his mind.

Yesterday, when he had inserted the Laziness Finger Bone into the small of his back, his entire body had shrunk several times over. This act initially caused a panic among the goblins, especially the High Priest, who cried out immediately. However, as soon as Shire pulled the finger bone out, his body quickly returned to its original size.

He analyzed it with the High Priest, concluding that this item must have been something the Feathered Serpent God had deliberately hidden—the very thing that allowed it to squeeze into that low-lying cave. As for why the Laziness Finger Bone and the Phoenix Egg were here, the High Priest said he didn’t know; he had never heard the Feathered Serpent God mention it.

’Maybe this thing has other uses?’ After having his subordinates test it a few times, Shire began to ponder other applications for the finger bone.

According to the information on his panel, Laziness had lost this finger bone, but the guy was apparently too lazy to even bother looking for it. That was certainly in character for him.

For now, though, the item could only shrink things, which didn’t seem particularly useful for the goblin Race. After all, compared to other Races, goblins were already small enough—so small that a human Adventurer could lop off a goblin’s head with a simple horizontal slash, without even needing to deliberately raise their sword.

Soon enough, however, Shire thought of a use for the Laziness Finger Bone: shrinking the Elephant Lord.

Shire had spoken with the Elephant Lord many times before. On one hand, it was to maintain good relations with the elephant herd and the Elephant Lord himself; if the Feathered Serpent God were to launch a surprise attack, he could ask the Elephant Lord to protect his goblin Race. On the other hand, he wanted to learn more about the Nightmare Forest. The Elephant Lord had wandered the forest with its herd for years on fixed migration routes and surely knew many of its secrets. The more of these secrets Shire knew—things human society likely knew nothing about—the better his chances of survival as a goblin living here.

After communicating with the Elephant Lord multiple times, Shire gradually realized that the colossal leader of the elephant herd actually longed to be with its herd. Its body was simply too enormous. Standing over ten meters tall and exuding a faint black aura, it was forced to live in clearings in the forest. If not for the Elephant Lord’s Super Strong Life force, it might very well have frozen to death this winter.

But the Elephant Lord also wanted to enter the Fortress and sleep with its herd. This was, after all, the nature of elephants. They would huddle together when sleeping, encircling the young, and even post one or two elephants as sentries.

Shire’s territory was safe now; no one would harm the elephant herd. So these giant creatures slept soundly inside the Fortress. The Elephant Lord, however, could only lie alone on the empty ground outside the Fortress, sleeping by itself.

’This thing should be able to help the Elephant Lord.’ That was Shire’s thought. He could shrink the Elephant Lord, allowing it to enter the Fortress and enjoy the "greenhouse" Shire had built for the elephant herd using Rune Speech.

At the same time, Shire had his own motives. Doing this would bring him closer to the Elephant Lord. After all, it was a Forest Evil God, its power comparable to the Feathered Serpent God’s, perhaps even greater. The Feathered Serpent God hadn’t been killed, merely heavily wounded before it escaped. If it were to come back for a surprise attack, Shire’s tribe would be in grave danger.

As long as he maintained a good relationship with the Elephant Lord, his tribe would be safe, at least.

After studying it many times, Shire gradually became more skilled at using the Laziness Finger Bone. But it also made him more curious about these Demon Lords.

’The Angry Long Horn could drive people into a mindless frenzy, and the Laziness Finger Bone can shrink them... so what does the Eye of Lust do? Could it let you see a person’s name and lifespan?’ Shire was very curious about this. ’What about the Ears of Jealousy? And what "parts" are Pride and Greed missing?’

’And why did the High Elves want to take parts of the Demon Lords’ bodies? And how did they even manage it?’ This made Shire even more curious. These were Demon Lords, after all. It might seem like Lust failed to kill the Feathered Serpent God, but that was just his Clone. If Lust’s true self from the Eternal Darkness Plane had been standing before the Feathered Serpent God, its fate would have been nothing but death. In this world, the power of a Demon Lord was second only to the Four Gods.

’Are they collecting the Demon Lords’ "parts" to gather all six and summon a divine dragon or something?’ Shire gave a wry smile, unable to understand the ultimate purpose. However, he had at least discovered that the six Demon Lord parts had other uses. ’So what would happen if, one day, I found all six parts and wore them all myself?’

’The Angry Long Horn stuck on my head, the Ears of Jealousy on my ears, the Laziness Finger Bone pinned to my back, the Eye of Lust on my forehead, and then add the items from Pride and Greed... would I instantly become super powerful?’ Shire imagined what he would look like wearing this Demon Lord "Holy Garment," then sighed. ’Forget it. I don’t know if I’d become powerful, but I’d definitely look like a "freak."’
