The Forest Feeds No Idle Goblins

Chapter 439 - 344: ’Retire When You Have Enough Money

Chapter 439: Chapter 344: ’Retire When You Have Enough Money

Shire looked up at Lingard in the sky and let out an "Oh." The Paladin had been swatted into the air by a direct hit from the Elephant Lord’s trunk. He soared across the sky like a Cannonball, heading straight south.

He had chosen to stand beside the Elephant Lord from the very beginning. Though the Elephant Lord was only slightly larger than a normal elephant due to the Laziness Finger Bone lodged in its body, its power hadn’t changed at all. In fact, its strength had been concentrated by its smaller size, making its explosive force even more potent. No matter how many Paladins tried, they couldn’t get near it.

And Shire’s choice had been a wise one. After being made such fools, lured into the Feathered Serpent God’s underground grotto only to be burned by exploding Blazing Fire Glue, when the members of the Holy Order Army finally struggled out and saw so many goblins jabbering and shouting, they would only assume the goblins were mocking them.

Given their arrogance, they would never deign to take goblins seriously, and events unfolded exactly as predicted. Upon hearing Shire’s words and seeing a large pack of goblins raising their weapons and hollering, Lingard’s expression turned stormy before he charged directly at Shire, the leader.

’Just, the number of them that charged out is a bit off.’ Shire frowned. ’There should be more Paladins coming out.’ After a moment’s thought, he turned and ordered Caocao and Red Eyes to guard the cave entrance. If any more Paladins escaped, they were to attack and knock them unconscious.

The other goblins were to remain on guard in the vicinity; if they were outmatched, they were to resort to using the Ah Pi Chickens immediately.

"Chief, the sword," Broken Tooth said, approaching Shire while holding something.

"Sword?" Shire stared at Broken Tooth’s hands. He couldn’t see anything, but the goblin was holding his hands in a firm grip, as if he were truly holding something.

"Give it to me." After a moment’s thought, Shire reached out and took an object with a metallic feel from Broken Tooth’s hands.

The moment the item was in his hands, a Longsword appeared before him. To be precise, it wasn’t a Longsword, but more of a long-bladed saber. Its design was very similar to the *miao dao* from his past life, with a long hilt wrapped in red leather and a slender blade shaped like a rice seedling. But just moments ago, Shire had seen nothing in Broken Tooth’s hands. It was as if the blade had been invisible.

"Where did this come from?" Shire asked without looking up, holding the long saber horizontally between his hands to study the blade.

"Human. Dropped."

"A human?" Shire glanced up at Broken Tooth, who nodded. ’That Paladin just now seemed to be charging at me with his hands raised... He must have been holding this thing, then.’

’An invisible long saber,’ Shire thought, a smirk playing on his lips. ’The Holy Order Army’s equipment is nothing to sneeze at. For a powerful Paladin to wield it, this must be an excellent weapon. It’s just a bit long. A goblin couldn’t wear it at their waist; they could only carry it on their back or in their hand. Time to check its panel.’

[Item: Siegfried’s Phantom Blade]

[Quality: Epic]

[Use: Hacking]

[Special Effect: The long saber’s true form can only be seen when held.]

[Note: Come on, let’s duel. I’m not holding anything.]

"This..." Shire chuckled. "The weapon of a former Hero?"

He had heard of this legendary Hero before. One of his greatest hobbies was getting into fights. Many taverns used to hang wooden signs reading, "No Siegfrieds or Dogs Allowed." After he died slaying a Giant Dragon, however, no one put up those signs anymore. Instead, many taverns would place a small plaque on a particular table, inscribed with, "The Hero thrashed two people here."

This former Hero was known for fighting empty-handed, only using a shield when facing five or more opponents. But now, it seemed his other hand hadn’t been so idle after all.

’Well, this is quite a haul.’ Shire held the invisible long saber in a reverse grip. ’This weapon is too long; it’s really inconvenient for a goblin to use. In the whole tribe, Red Eyes is probably the only one who could manage it. But giving a former Hero’s weapon to a goblin... it just seems weird, no matter how I look at it.’

While looking at the panel, Shire considered giving it to Little John. After all, he was the future Hero. But on second thought, the weapon was probably registered with the Holy Order Army. With Little John’s current level of strength, he would definitely draw attention the moment he revealed it, and that could invite trouble from the War God Church.

’The best solution is to hide the long saber in the forest for now. I’ll give it to the future Hero once Little John and I have both grown stronger.’

"Right, where did you find it?" Shire turned to ask Broken Tooth, who pointed to a nearby thicket.

’He must have dropped it there after being sent flying. Broken Tooth has a perception Ability, so he probably noticed something,’ Shire mused for a few seconds before asking, "Did you see the human?"

Broken Tooth shook his head. "Flew too far."

Shire chuckled. This subordinate of his was very dutiful, immediately giving chase to Lingard. Still, he hadn’t been able to keep up with the Elephant Lord’s "trajectory."

"Oh well. Let’s go check on those Paladins." Shire walked forward, long saber in hand, and gave the Elephant Lord a pat. Three Paladins were already knocked out, while a few others, looking utterly wretched, were trading blows with Caocao and Red Eyes.

After waiting a while longer to confirm that no more Paladins were emerging, Shire led his followers into the cave. Upon entering the grotto, they found it still thick with a scorched, acrid smell. Numerous Paladins lay on the ground, their skin burned to a black crisp and giving off a strange odor of cooked meat. Their Armor, however, had only sustained minor scorch marks, proving just how formidable the Dwarven Steel and the imbued Defense Spells really were.
