Chapter 506: Chapter 506: Delivery
After a busy night, Bai Mo finished breaking down the dark, pasty Pill.
He divided the parts indistinguishable by sight or smell into dozens of portions. After dissolving them in bowls and adding various medicinal powders, each produced a different reaction.
In this way, Bai Mo was able to roughly determine the Pill’s main components.
"This is the best I can do for now..."
Bai Mo wiped the froth from the bowl, leaving behind a foul-smelling, dark red liquid that reeked of blood.
Ah Er stood nearby, its furry face scrunched up. The fumes had been overwhelming it all night.
Bai Mo remained unfazed. In his mind, the complex stench broke down into several distinct odors, which he matched to his experiences testing reagents during Alchemy.
He took up a brush and wrote down a formula, then stood up, stretched his back, and pointed to the residual waste.
"Clean this up."
Ah Er moved quickly, wrapping everything in a floral-patterned cloth and heading for the nearby cliff.
It tossed the filthy residue and the bowls of liquid over the edge, but no sound echoed back from below.
Ah Er listened for a few moments, then dusted off its paws and headed back inside.
By the time it returned, Bai Mo had already washed up and gone to his room to rest.
In truth, Bai Mo hadn’t been as relaxed as he appeared. Mental work was never truly easy.
Ah Er tiptoed and peered over the edge of the table, looking at the formula.
It wanted to prepare some of the materials in advance, but it hardly recognized any of the items listed.
It lifted a paw and sniffed it. After confirming there was no lingering odor, it too went to rest.
Master and servant slept for the better part of the day. The first thing Bai Mo did upon waking was send a message to the Beast Taming Peak.
Ingredients like "living souls," which were part of the formula, were materials expressly forbidden by the righteous sects of the Cultivation Realm.
Naturally, Bai Mo had no intention of breaking such a taboo.
The blue-robed steward had said the Beast Taming Peak had a substitute, so Bai Mo simply had to follow his instructions.
He waited leisurely for over ten days before a Sect Disciple from the Beast Taming Peak finally delivered the items.
The disciple arrived on a flying bird and was extremely respectful. He brought a storage pouch specially designed for carrying living things.
He, too, remained at the door, unwilling to step inside.
The Beast Taming Peak disciple emptied the pouch, revealing pieces of bloody flesh, still twitching, that exuded a raw, metallic scent.
Bai Mo detected the aura of a living soul on the flesh. His eyebrows shot up, and he asked:
"What is this?"
The Beast Taming Peak disciple kept his head lowered and replied softly:
"This is a wondrous creature known as the Ground Tai Sui. It is raised deep beneath the Beast Taming Peak."
It was something Bai Mo had never heard of.
His interest piqued, he asked another question:
"May I ask its origin?"
"I do not know," the disciple replied.
"There was no record of such a creature until the sect brought it back from the outside."
This man lacked the shrewd air typical of a Beast Taming Peak disciple. He was methodical, doing everything by the book, never letting his eyes wander.
’He must be one of the sect’s covert operatives, someone who doesn’t need to operate in the open.’
According to him, this Ground Tai Sui was a mass of ever-growing flesh that could devour any and all external nutrients, be it plant or animal.
Furthermore, this mass of flesh housed a vast, bloated soul that was constantly expanding, becoming ever more unwieldy.
To date, it had grown to cover an area over a hundred yards across.
When Sect Disciples cut away parts of it, trimming the malformed flesh and soul, the creature actually seemed to take pleasure in it, growing back even more rapidly.
However, for its flesh to be suitable for alchemy, the Ground Tai Sui had to be fed high-quality blood-essence meals; it couldn’t be anything impure.
Bai Mo picked up a few pieces of flesh and sensed them carefully. Only after confirming that the living soul within each piece came from the same entity, sharing the exact same aura, did he nod slightly.
’What a wondrous creature. Using this for Alchemy is likely far superior to capturing ordinary living beings to extract their souls.’
Upon hearing this, the Beast Taming Peak disciple gave a slight bow and respectfully withdrew.
"If you require more, Senior Brother, simply send another message."
"The Ground Tai Sui has a surplus and can be trimmed at any time..."
’So there’s a specific art to this harvesting process.’
After the disciple left, Bai Mo ordered Ah Er to take the chunks of meat, wash them, and set them aside.
He returned to his room, took up his brush, and made a new entry in a register: Ground Tai Sui.
The world was truly vast and full of wonders.
He had a good guess as to the creature’s origins.
It was likely born from the mutation of some powerful being. Something must have happened to it—a confluence of external and internal factors that twisted it into its current, misshapen form.
Once the sect discovered it, there was no way they would let such a thing go. They brought it back to the Beast Taming Peak to be secretly cultivated.
The Cultivation Realm was full of such things—unique, one-of-a-kind existences that could rarely be replicated.
...
「Several days later.」
Using the Ground Tai Sui as the primary ingredient and supplementing it with other processed materials, Bai Mo refined a new Pill.
It was somewhat different from the original.
Though also pitch-black in appearance, Bai Mo’s creation was far more visually appealing.
Its surface was smooth and lustrous, and it lacked the foul, bloody odor of the original.
When the blue-robed steward came to collect it, he couldn’t help but nod in approval.
"Excellent work, Junior Brother."
He was a man who knew quality and didn’t dismiss the Pill simply because it differed from the original.
This was despite having heard that the non-human race was crude, judging a Pill’s quality by how foul and bloody its stench was.
"Those non-humans are only after the living soul and the massive dose of medicinal power in the Pill."
"If our product were identical to theirs, it wouldn’t showcase our skill. The impression it would create would be inferior. This is much better."
He asked, "Can it be mass-produced?"
Bai Mo nodded.
"It’s not difficult. An ordinary Pill Master could learn how with a bit of effort."
The blue-robed steward looked at him.
"The Pill Formula..."
Bai Mo didn’t hesitate, generously handing over the Pill Formula he had reverse-engineered.
The blue-robed steward glanced at it, not fully understanding. He tucked it into his sleeve and looked back at Bai Mo.
"Junior Brother, could you tell me how the original was made?"
Bai Mo knew what he was asking and said:
"The technique itself is nothing special—in fact, it’s quite crude. Any Pill Master in Celestial Mountain City would probably scorn it."
"The crucial part is the extraction of the living soul. They must have used some brutal method to forcibly rip the soul from a Human or Demon Beast. That’s what gives it that ’torn’ sensation and makes it far less effective..."
The Celestial Barrier Mountain range is crawling with Demon Beasts, and there have been reports of abnormal Human Race activity as well.
’It seems both of those groups have some history with this non-human race.’
This was exactly the kind of information the blue-robed steward was looking for.
He nodded in satisfaction, handed the Spirit Stones to Bai Mo, and then departed.
Watching the steward’s retreating figure, Bai Mo glanced at Ah Er and said softly:
"The steward will be back about this. Want to bet?"
Ah Er looked confused, scratching its head. It didn’t understand at all.
Bai Mo just smiled, weighing the Spirit Stones in his hand as he turned and walked back into the house.
’This Pill... its medicinal energy is too impure. Taking it would be an unpleasant experience. It’s barely more than sustenance. There’s clearly room for improvement.’
’Based on the characteristics of social creatures, there must be a hierarchy.’
’And those of higher rank deserve to enjoy better things.’
"Send a message to the Beast Taming Peak. Have them send over more Ground Tai Sui. I want to do some more research."
’If that non-human race truly inherited a portion of some ancient legacy, they’re bound to have this capability.’
’Further dealings are inevitable.’
Both the sect and their trading partners would inevitably ask for a more advanced Pill.
