“‘Let the person by your side be me.’ Such a moving line, truly….”

The voice instantly and wholly disrupted the warm atmosphere in the quiet hospital ward.

“Yi?” Pei Ge lifted her head and looked over at the source of this foreign voice in confusion.

This was when she realized with a start that Mu Heng was standing behind her and Ji Ziming. His usually playful attitude was not present at the moment, and he seemed to have transformed into a totally different person.

“Why are you here?” Also noticing Mu Heng’s presence, Ji Ziming turned to regard him indifferently.

When Mu Heng spoke earlier, Ji Ziming thought that he had accidentally spoken his thoughts aloud.

“Ha ha! Of course, it is to visit you, you punk. It turns out you don’t need me, though, as you have this pretty lady here. Ze, ze, ze! How comforting!” His face broke into a teasing smile as he looked at his best friend.

Seeing that the Casanova was back to his usual self, she blinked and pouted inside. This is the Mu Heng I know! That deep look he had moments ago isn’t like him at all.

Mu Heng caught her gaze and winked at her. “Little Chili, I really didn’t expect for your English to be so pleasing to the ear. Read aloud for me as well the next time I am sick.”

“…” She rolled her eyes speechlessly. I’ve never met someone who would curse me like this.

“Little Chili, continue reading. I like listening to you read.” Mu Heng proceeded to sit in the other soft chair after saying this with a grin.

For some reason, his smiling face made her not want to continue reading the story.

Damn! The romantic atmosphere earlier was totally gone now!

No, wait! Why did she think that she and Ji Ziming had shared a romantic atmosphere earlier?

Ke, ke, ke! Wrong feeling; wrong feeling! Mu Heng’s teasing smile must be the reason that I lost the desire to read the book.

“I don’t want to read, anymore,” she said this with a pout as she glanced at Ji Ziming. Please don’t dock my pay, okay?

Unexpectedly, not only did the man not plan to dock her pay, he also nodded his head at her in an agreeable way.

“Hey, hey, hey! You two can’t be serious, right?! The story is not over yet, so how can you stop reading it? Not fair! You two are clearly ganging up on me!” Mu Heng complained with an expression that seemed to say that he had been done injustice.

“Little Chili, keep reading. It’s really nice to listen to your voice!” He grinned and acted cutesy when he saw the two not taking any action.

This grown man, almost nearing his thirties, was acting cutesy with her, but no matter how handsome his looks were, seductive his eyes were, or how pretty his face was, he was still a man through and through!

Therefore… No offense, but she only felt disgust at his action.

At this point, she only wanted to say one thing.

“Ke, ke, CEO Ji. I see that it is getting late; I’ll go prepare your dinner.” She forced her gaze away from Mu Heng as she informed Ji Ziming this.

“Mhm.” Ji Ziming nodded gently and cast a cold look in Mu Heng’s direction.

Mu Heng had seen his best friend’s cold gaze many times before and was long used to it, so he was not cowed by it in the least and even threw his best friend a wink in return.

She could feel goosebumps rising on her skin when she witnessed the two’s interaction and she hastened her footsteps out of the room.

Once she was out of sight, Ji Ziming shifted his gaze away.

“You’ve already looked at her the whole day, yet you still have not had enough?” Mu Heng teased when he saw his best friend stare intently at her receding back.

Ji Ziming lightly hummed and stood up from the soft chair that he had been in the whole afternoon.

“I finally get it why you care so much for Little Chili. She really is very attractive…” Mu Heng recalled that earlier scene and his face broke into a soft smile.

Hearing Mu Heng’s words, Ji Ziming turned and frowned at his smiling face. “Don’t get any ideas.”

“How can I? You are CEO Ji. I am not daring enough to touch Master Ji’s woman.” Mu Heng regained his cheeky self.

Ji Ziming glanced at him briefly and did not speak.

“That Little Chili’s English is pretty good, though. She uttered that line with a touch of love. I was so moved to the point of being stunned…” Mu Heng said emotionally. He had been with many beautiful flowers over the years, yet he dared to say that this wild flower, Pei Ge, might not be the prettiest woman out there, but she was definitely the most moving.

Even a playboy like him was moved by this wild flower.

Looking at the slightly dazed Ji Ziming, who was standing next to him, Mu Heng felt that perhaps it was not her fluently reading a book but, instead, her speaking of love from the heart that had caused his best friend to have his current gentle look.

“Let it be me…” I hope that the person by your side is me….

He he! These two are really interesting. I’m really looking forward to what sort of fireworks will result when they collide.

As to what the two in the hospital ward was thinking, she was of course unaware. Her mouth twitched slightly when she saw that the kitchen was re-stocked with fresh ingredients.

The leftovers from this afternoon were thankfully not thrown, so she managed to maintain her good mood.

Maybe, it was the book ‘Pounding Heart’ this afternoon that had made her feel rather happy and be filled with thoughts of romantic lines.

“Hmm… mmm…” she hummed a tune while she washed the vegetables, smiling as she prepared Ji Ziming’s dinner.

Since the man had agreed to her taking the remaining vegetables home, she gratefully and willingly cooked an extra dish for him.

Thereafter, she proudly served the dishes and soup to Ji Ziming. This was when she heard Mu Heng cry out, “Yi?! Ziming, are you having this for dinner?!”
