Chapter 1663: Discover with Jericho Maya (Part III)

Jericho Maya called for a short break. Iris released a soft sigh of relief that she hadn’t known she was holding. Although Jericho was very gentle and so far principled in this interview, Iris still couldn’t completely relax. The man’s techniques of making other people willing to open up and spill their guts felt too dangerous. She had to be on guard all the time.

Jin Liwei sensed her cautiousness. He was the first one to come and sit beside her, offering his rock-solid presence to steady her nerves.

Her glam team also surrounded her. They retouched her makeup and made sure that everything about her still looked picture-perfect.

Dom was behind the camera, watching every moment. He sent Iris two big thumbs up.

Jericho caught his attention and asked him, "Can I interview you with Iris next?"

"Of course," Dom replied. His eyes were brightly shining.

Iris smiled, sensing his excitement. She gestured for her glam team to work on Dom next.

"Hehe." Dom didn’t shy away from the glam team. He was more than prepared, having completed his Orchidia Beauty regimen early in the morning. He knew that he was also going to be interviewed today. He must look beautifully handsome in front of the camera and make his country proud.

After the short break, Jericho faced the camera and made a new introduction.

"The next segment of this interview makes me very proud as a Filipino. Behind a shining superstar like Iris Long is a person who ensures that everything works perfectly, like a maestro directing each musician in a well-trained symphony orchestra. Iris Long herself says that this person makes her life so much easier to live by helping her manage everything, so that she can focus on the most important things in her life.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please help me welcome our fellow countryman, the right-hand man of international multi-award-winning musician Iris Long—DOMINIC CHUA!!!"

Loud applause and cheers erupted behind the camera.

Dom beamed and waved his manicured hands at the Filipino staff cheering for him. Iris chuckled at the sight.

Jericho Maya: "Welcome back to the Philippines, Dominic."

Dom: "Thank you! I miss being here. It’s indeed more fun in the Philippines!"

Jericho: "May we speak in our language? Is that alright with you, Iris?"

Before she could respond, Dom answered for her in Filipino, "I taught her our language. Although she isn’t proficient yet, she has no problem understanding everyday conversations. She should be fine!"

Iris laughed. "Go ahead and talk more comfortably in your language."

Jericho looked at her with wide eyes. "Is that true, Iris? Dominic really taught you Filipino?"

She nodded and spoke a few easy sentences in Filipino, making Jericho and his staff feel extremely delighted.

"Wow, no accent at all!" Jericho couldn’t help but praise.

"My boss is a language genius!" Dom puffed out his chest, looking as if he were the language genius himself.

Jericho chuckled, looking amused. "Before I start asking you questions, Dominic, I just want to say that I’m amazed at seeing how close the relationship between the two of you is. Iris, you mentioned that Dominic is your best friend and assistant at the same time. I dare not believe it before this. I thought that you were just saying it for your fans and the media. But now that I’ve met the two of you, I can say that the friendship between the two of you is genuine. I might not have any other amazing talents outside journalism, but I dare say that my judgment when it comes to people is almost always 99.99% accurate."

Iris and Dom caught each other’s eyes and winked.

Jericho laughed, pointing at the two of them. "That’s what I’m talking about!"

The two then high-fived each other, causing another wave of easy laughter among Jericho and his staff.

Jericho faced the camera and said in a serious tone, "I swear on my reputation as a journalist that there’s nothing fake about the friendship between Iris Long and Dominic Chua. I can sense that everything about them is real."

Dom tossed his non-existent long hair. "Of course, our friendship is real! My boss isn’t someone who knows how to act fake! If she doesn’t like you, she’ll tell it to your face!"

Jericho: "I heard about your, er, frankness, Iris."

Iris shrugged her shoulders. "This is my personality. Though many have commented that I’ve mellowed out since marrying my husband and becoming a mother to our children. I say that I’ve just become more adept at choosing my battles. Not every battle is worth fighting for."

Dom raised both of his hands. "Preach!"

Jericho: "Wise words. Now, Dominic, are you ready to answer some questions?"

Dom: "Always ready, that’s my life’s motto! Bring it on, Jericho!"

Another round of laughter.

Jericho started by asking how Dominic met Iris and how he became her assistant. Dominic answered everything truthfully. Of course, his view of Iris had long since been filtered through rose-coloured lenses. Everything about his Boss Iris was awesome, and anybody who believed otherwise must be blind.

Everyone inside the venue listened to the question-and-answer exchange between Jericho and Dom with rapt attention.

Jericho: "Now that we’ve established how you came to become THE Iris Long’s right-hand man, can the two of you tell me how you became the best of friends?"

Iris answered first. "It just came naturally as we started working and living together day by day. Even before my husband came into the picture, Dom was already there."

Jericho: "Oh, is that so? Then, Dominic, you saw the courtship between Iris and Liam?"

Dom: "Yes, I was there. And I shipped them right from the start!"

Jericho: "I’m going to ask a question about that later, but let’s return to my previous question. Dominic, how did you feel when you became Iris Long’s best friend?"

Dom: "I didn’t really feel any differently just because she’s a celebrity. Before I decided to work with Boss Iris, my Chinese uncle worried that I would suffer."

Jericho: "And why is that?"

Iris: "I’ll answer this. I didn’t have the best reputation back then. To make a long story short, I was a selfish, spoiled brat who liked getting my own way. I didn’t care about offending others at all as long as I got what I wanted."

Of course, that was the original Iris Long, not the current her. However, she had never shied away from admitting the original’s shortcomings. It was only through this that she could cleanse the original’s bad reputation.

Dom nodded. "I was initially worried about working with someone as infamous as Boss Iris. I wondered if I could get along with her or not. But I was determined to prove myself and build a career. It didn’t matter if my boss was a spoiled brat or not. I already steeled myself and prepared to work hard, save money, and be successful. Thankfully, everything worked out for the best. Not only did I get the best boss in the world, but I also gained a best friend for life."

Jericho watched the two smile at each other. "That’s so inspiring. This is actually one of the most frequently asked questions from the Filipino fans. I’m sure that they’ll be happy and satisfied that I asked it today. They’re called the Black Stars, right?"

Iris: "Yes, Dom and his family founded Black Stars Philippines, and I’m eternally grateful for that."

Jericho asked a follow-up question, but didn’t dwell too much on it, as Iris had already talked about it at other interviews during the past days.

"Now let’s move on to the next question," he said. "Dominic, you said that you were there and saw the courtship between Iris and Liam. How was it?"

Dom squealed and bounced on his seat. Jericho’s staff leaned forward, not wanting to miss his answer.

Another camera took a close-up shot of Jin Liwei behind the scenes. Although he looked as cold and indifferent as ever, the slight upward curve of his mouth betrayed his real emotions.

Dom: "It was so passionate! I won’t get into too much detail because of privacy reasons, but I saw everything! Their love story is even more captivating than the most popular romance TV drama series! There are tears and angst, but there is also laugh-out-loud comedy, and of course, lots of romantic scenes that make me want to drown in sugar! Kyaaaaah!

"Now that they’re married to each other, I feel like a mother watching her children have their long-deserved happily ever after. Their cutie-patootie babies are an added bonus! As their uncle, I’m ready to give them the world if they ask for it. But of course, with Boss Iris and Sir Boss Liam as their parents, they can literally have whatever they want when it comes to material things. All I can do is help Boss Iris and Sir Boss Liam raise their children into responsible and independent adults."

Jericho: "So you’re saying that you’re very involved in raising Iris and Liam’s kids?"

Dom: "Yes. I’m lucky enough that Boss Iris and Sir Boss Liam don’t see me as an outsider. I’m family to them."

Both Iris and Jin Liwei nodded at Dom’s words.

Jericho: "That’s beautiful."

Dom: "I love their kids like my own. I would die for them. They’re so cute and already recognize me as their beautiful and handsome Uncle Dom."

Jericho: "Now I really want to see what the twins look like."

Iris studied Jericho for a few moments before asking him, "Do you really want to see my kids?"

Jericho’s eyes lit up. "Yes! Is it okay?"

Iris glanced at her husband. He also studied Jericho before nodding.

"I’ll show you their photos," she said. "Only to you."

Jericho nodded several times, looking like a pecking chicken. "Please! It would be a great honour."
