His Genius Wife is a Superstar

Chapter 1680: Extend the Stay

Chapter 1680: Extend the Stay

Jin Liwei stayed in the suite’s living area for most of the night. He was glued to his phone, reading and typing, and sometimes made phone calls to various people.

The storm outside started abating at the crack of dawn. However, thick, dark clouds continued covering the sun, casting a dreary air over the battered city.

Jiang Ying Yue and Lin Yehan came out of their bedroom. Jiang Ying Yue, in her sharp bodyguard suit, greeted Jin Liwei before convening with her colleagues. In contrast, her husband wore casual jeans and a white T-shirt. Lin Yehan’s eyes widened upon seeing Jin Liwei.

"Third Brother, you didn’t sleep?" he asked.

"En." Jin Liwei rubbed his chin where stubble had already grown.

"You look terrible."

Jin Liwei grunted and glanced at his reflection in the mirror. Indeed, he looked terrible. His eyes were bloodshot, and the bags underneath could hide a couple of coins each. He sighed.

Lin Yehan shook his head but refrained from scolding his third brother. He knew that Jin Liwei must have been up all night plotting to avenge his wife. If a similar thing happened to Jiang Ying Yue, he would also do everything in his power to take revenge against those who bullied his wife. What could they do? They just loved their wives too much. As husbands, it was their duty to protect their wives and their children.

"My business here in the Philippines has concluded," he said. "As much as I want to accompany Ying Yue, I still have urgent tasks waiting back home, especially now that I’ve secured a deal here. If the weather continues to improve, I’ll leave by tomorrow."

"Good." Jin Liwei nodded. "Congrats on a new agricultural market for your business, Eldest Brother."

A gentle smile appeared on Lin Yehan’s face. "Thank you, Third Brother. Please keep an eye on my wife. I won’t be able to see her for a while."

"En."

"I also can’t wait to see my son. I’m a bit worried that Fifth Brother might be overtraining the little guy. How old is Little Jun? Ying Yue and I video-called yesterday and saw that my son suddenly has abs! Can you imagine? If my wife hadn’t stopped me, I would have already flown back home yesterday to give Lu Zihao, that brute, a piece of my mind!"

Jin Liwei’s eyes widened. "My godson already has abs? So fast?"

Lin Yehan nodded while frowning. "I was so angry, but my wife said that our son inherited his strong body from her. She said that since it’s easy for her to gain muscles even when she’s female, then it should be easier for her son to gain muscles as a boy. She also said that since she enjoys training, Little Jun must have inherited it from her as well."

Jin Liwei also couldn’t help but frown. Little Jun might not be his and his wife’s biological son, but they treated the child like their own. The child had only recently started recovering from the trauma of being kidnapped. It would only be counterproductive if Little Jun overexerted himself from too much training.

He was about to call his brother-in-law, Nikolai (Lu Zihao), when Jiang Ying Yue returned.

She heard the last part of what they were talking about. "I know that you’re both worried about Little Jun, but please don’t dwell on it too much. My son has a sturdy body like mine. As a mother, I know my son inside and out. Little Jun has improved a lot since he began following his master. He sees Fifth Brother as his hero, and he wants to grow up like him. I don’t want to stop him and dash his dreams. I want to support him in whatever he wants to do. Dr. Grace Poon also mentioned that training is my son’s way of coping with the trauma. Since it looks like it’s working, I want to let Little Jun continue training with his master. Besides, I trust Fifth Brother and Jinjing. They won’t harm my son while we’re gone."

Lin Yehan sighed and continued shaking his head, but otherwise didn’t contradict his wife.

"En." Since the mother had spoken, what more could Jin Liwei say?

The other bedroom opened, and a figure in a fashionable outfit stepped out. He was still far from the group, yet they could already smell his perfume—Jin Chonglin’s first fragrance from Liberté’s men’s line, "Vaillance".

"Good morning, God, my fellow heavenly people, and the whole world! The beautiful and handsome Dominic Chua has awakened to spread joy, peace, and love to all fabulous people like me! La la la la la~ La la la la la~ La la la la la la la la la la la la~ Doobie doobie doodoo~ Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah~"

Jiang Ying Yue chuckled. "Good morning, Dom."

"Good morning, Sis Yue~ Looking cool as always! Ah, Eldest Bro Boss, good morning to you, too! Sir boss, what happened?! Why do you look like you’re about to transform into a zombie?! Did you not sleep last night?"

Jin Liwei grunted.

Dom didn’t mind his lack of response and continued chattering like there was no tomorrow. "Has my gorgeous boss not awakened yet? How worried would she be if she saw her beloved husband looking like a zombie?! Sir boss, why don’t you rest now? All our appointments for today are cancelled because of the weather. But it’s alright because it’s nothing without God’s might! Let’s do our best, and God will do the rest. My gorgeous boss has been working so hard for so long. A sudden day off like this is rare. We need to take advantage of this and restore our beauty as much as possible, so we can return to work as fresh as possible. Am I right or am I right? Hehehe~"

Jin Liwei massaged his glabella, waved at them, and returned to the primary bedroom without saying a word. He had been fine, but felt exhausted all of a sudden once Dom appeared. What a talent his wife’s best friend had!

"Sleep tight, sir boss~" Dom didn’t forget to wish him well.

Jiang Ying Yue exchanged a meaningful smile with her husband, Lin Yehan.

Dom turned to them and asked, "What breakfast do you want to eat? Do you want to eat breakfast downstairs or—"

Jin Liwei closed the bedroom door to drown out the voice of the talkative Dom. Then he hurried to the bed.

"Awake, love?"

"Hm." Iris sat up and spread her arms towards him.

He sat on the bed and pulled his wife in an embrace, inhaling her fragrance. "Good morning, love."

"Morning...." Iris still felt drowsy. She rested her head on her husband’s chest, listening to his strong heartbeat.

The blackout curtains were still drawn shut, so she couldn’t see if the weather had improved or not.

After a few minutes, Iris finally felt much more awake. She glanced up and was startled to see her husband’s appearance.

"What happened to you?!"

He sighed, but his lips still curved up. "Just a little tired." Then he changed the topic, trying to distract his wife from his pitiful appearance. "Dominic said that all your appointments for today have been cancelled."

"Oh. Then we should rest today."

"En."

He kissed his wife’s forehead before getting up to open the curtains. The TV was also turned on. Some of the channels were not available due to the power outage.

Iris chose a local news channel. Although she couldn’t understand some of the deep, technical words, she understood enough to know that the storm had damaged the capital city and the surrounding areas last night.

She walked to the window and looked down at the city. There were already vehicles and motorists bustling on the streets below. Life went on despite the storm. People still needed to work (if their work was open) to earn money and continue surviving.

Ever since coming to the Philippines, she had only gone to luxurious places. Yet she still saw the poverty peeking through the gaps of luxury.

Beggars.

The homeless.

Small illegal food stalls blocking the sides of the roads.

Manual workers braving the heat throughout the day.

Average employees squeezing into public transportation to get to and from work.

Despite all this, Iris was amazed to see everyone smiling.

At first, she thought that everyone was just being polite; that people were just smiling on the surface to not seem rude.

After a few days in the country, however, she began to realize that the people were genuinely smiling. They were sincerely welcoming her and her companions to their country from the bottom of their hearts. Even though most of the regular people couldn’t afford anything extra, they would give whatever they could to them out of kindness.

How pitiful.

How wonderful.

How inspirational.

"Darling."

"Hm?" Jin Liwei was changing from his pyjamas to casual loungewear.

"I want to extend our stay in the Philippines. Even for just a day."

"Sure." He agreed without hesitation. He didn’t even ask why.

She beamed at him. "I want to bring Iris of Hope to this country."

Right at that moment, the news program on the TV showed a panoramic shot of knocked-down shacks in the city’s shanty towns. There were also some missing persons reported. People were hoping that there would be no casualties.

Even though last night’s storm wasn’t a typhoon, the economic damage it caused was still quite significant.

Areas that didn’t have proper drainage systems were all flooded.

The husband and wife watched the news together. Both of them came from wealthy families.

They had never experienced such economic hardship as this.

Jin Liwei brushed his wife’s hair with his hand. "Alright. We’ll bring Iris of Hope to the Philippines."
