Chapter 598: I Might Just Share About My Happy Moments

“Who is he?” Nian Qingyun asked, his face ashen-gray. The way he called out with such affection made Nian Qingyun’s blood boil.

“My friend.” Murong Cheng turned and grinned.

“So, someone who’s just a friend is picking you up right after settling your divorce?” Nian Qingyun was incensed.

“You’re absolutely right. Actually, he’s not just an ordinary friend. We’re making progress towards something more. If you’re free, you can stay posted on social media. I might just share about my happy moments.” Murong Cheng shook his hand off.

The man in the Audi got out of the car to open the door for her smoothly. Murong Cheng got in ever so gracefully.

“You’re that guy in finance.” Nian Qingyun could not stop himself. He barged in front of the man and said, “She was my wife. You were just waiting to pounce all along.”

“That’s why we were only friends, previously. Now we can develop our relationship further. Thanks for finally letting go of her.” The man snickered before getting back in the car and driving off with a loud roar of the engine.

Nian Qingyun looked on as the car disappeared into the distance before looking down at the divorce papers in his hands. Decades of marriage, all for a few pieces of paper. They would no longer be connected in any way. He was overwhelmed with regret. If only he could turn back the tide of time.

After taking Grandma Nian back home, Nian Junting returned to the office. While waiting at a traffic light, he checked his smartphone out of boredom. He opened his social media platform and noticed that Nian Qingyun had a new post. “Cherish what you have.”

Nian Xi had commented, “Dad, aren’t you a little late?”

Nian Qingyun replied, “You’re right. I’m too late.”

Nian Junting commented, “No one needs to cherish you.”

After five minutes, Nian Qingyun replied, “You unfilial scoundrel.”

Nian Junting’s lips curled into a smile. If not for the fact that Leng Shuangwei had not come around, he would have wanted to take Sangsang out to celebrate.

6.30pm, at the hospital.

Sprawled at the bedside and snoring in deep sleep, Jiang Qifei was suddenly awakened by Leng Zhe’s loud voice. “Shuangwei, you’re awake?”

She snapped awake and saw that Leng Shuangwei had opened her eyes weakly. Her face was pale, and she looked like she was completely lacking in energy.

“Shuangwei, you’re finally awake.” A tear rolled down Jiang Qifei’s face and landed on the back of her hand. “I’ll get the doctor.”

After pressing the bell, the doctor came over to examine Leng Shuangwei. He smiled and said, “She’s not in critical condition anymore. She needs rest to recuperate. If there’s any discomfort, inform us right away.”

“Alright. Thank you, doctor,” Leng Zhe said as he saw the doctor out.

“Dad, has the attacker been caught? Is Grandma Nian alright? Is anyone else hurt?” Leng Shuangwei croaked in a raspy voice.

“Don’t worry about others, worry about yourself.” Jiang Qifei was extremely distressed. “I only have one daughter. What will I do if anything happens to you? Even if Grandma Nian is Nian Junting’s grandmother, you shouldn’t put your life in danger.”

“Mom, even if it wasn’t Grandma Nian, I would have done the same. After all, it is my duty as a policewoman,” Leng Shuangwei said weakly.

“Yes, policewoman, you should pursue another career. Find a deskbound job instead.” Jiang Qifei stood up, her heart aching. “Do you not know… you might never… you might never…”

“Never what?” Leng Shuangwei was unsettled by her tone of voice.

“You’ll find out sooner or later,” Leng Zhe said gravely. “Your uterus has been injured. It might be difficult to get pregnant in the future, even with the aid of artificial insemination or in-vitro fertilization.”

Leng Shuangwei clutched at her blanket tightly. It was as if a thunderbolt had struck from the clear skies. Children. What did children mean to her?
