Chapter 1261: A Use To Set The Board
The man’s gaze immediately fell upon Izroth as he approached.
"Pardon my rudeness, but are you the Honorary Elder from the Apothecary Guild, Izroth?" The burly man spoke politely.
Despite his appearance, there was not a hint of harshness behind his words.
"I am." Izroth answered calmly.
The moment Izroth confirmed his identity, the man’s entire demeanor shifted.
The burly man placed his fist over his chest and lowered his head as he said, "I am Gord, the person in charge of overseeing all security matters related to the Formation Master Guild’s main building. I was personally sent by Elder Arden of the Formation Master Guild to escort Honorary Elder Apothecary Izroth to the Formation Master Guild’s main building." The burly man, Gord, stated respectfully.
"Oh? I was told that I was no longer welcome in the Formation Master District, let alone the guild’s main building. I am someone who values his time. For it be wasted on the whim of another’s incompetence—it seems that the Formation Master Guild does not set the Apothecary Guild in its eyes." Izroth spoke unhurriedly with a steady gaze.
Gord furrowed his brows as a troubled expression formed on his face. He was caught off guard by Izroth’s sharp words; however, knowing what took place and the disrespect he was shown, Gord did not have the words to refute him.
’Since others wish to block my path, I will use them to set the board properly.’
Izroth knew that if he let things end so easily, it would make him look like a feast in the eyes of the nobles who wanted to ride the coattails of the Duvelle family. Of course, his main goal was to gain access to the higher floors of the Formation Master Guild’s library. But, that did not mean that he could not kill two birds with one stone. He planned to use this opportunity to send a clear message to those with ill intentions.
"This... We have offended you and the Apothecary Guild. I can only apologize for our incompetence. I am sure words alone cannot quell the anger in your heart. But, Elder Arden is a fair and just man. He will surely set right what’s wrong. I ask only that you give us the chance to do so." Gord said apologetically.
Izroth closed his eyes as he remained silent for a moment. Not long after, he opened his eyes and said, "Elder Arden should be thankful that the people around him holds him in such high regard. Let’s hope that he does not disappoint the grace I’ve given."
Izroth stood to his feet as he turned to Pakdra. He cupped his hand into his fist and said, "Thank you for allowing me to rest here and the gift you’ve given me. I, Izroth, will not forget the kindness you’ve shown me."
"Ha, you’re a more interesting one than I thought. Well, in the end, I just did what I wanted to do. Don’t think too much about it. Ah, I guess if really wanted to repay me, if you see anyone from the Unconquerable Clan in trouble, lend them a hand, will you? Let’s call it even with that." Pakdra responded with a playful yet fierce grin.
"I will bear that in mind. Then, until our paths cross once more." Izroth said as he gave the last of his farewells.
He then turned to Gord and said, "Lead the way."
"As you wish." Gord replied respectfully as he stood upright and made his way toward the INN’s exit as Izroth followed next to him.
...
A few moments later...
Gord, along with two other guards under his command, escorted Izroth to the Formation Master Guild’s main building.
When he approached the Formation Master Guild’s main building, Izroth instantly noticed that the guards who were on duty at the entrance last time had changed.
"What happened to the guards who were here earlier?" Izroth inquired.
"They were summoned by Elder Arden to give an official report on the situation. That guy, Haku, he always does his job well. The reason he has been around so long is because he knows how to keep his head down and avoid troublesome matters. But, this time, he was like a completely different person. He really stuck his neck out for you. Interim Elder Rionso is a noble with a strong backing. Speaking up against him is no different than making an enemy of the Enrhivers family and the Duvelle family who supports them. I do not envy him. But... I do respect him." Gord stated as a sense of pride swelled in his eyes.
He cleared his throat and continued, "My bad—guess I got a bit talkative. Maybe that was just my way of hoping you’d look out for him if things go south."
"Your words are admirable, but he has chosen what path to walk. He does not need my help. Still, at the very least, he will not have to worry about Rionso or the Enrhivers family." Izroth said in a carefree manner.
’By the time I’m finished, they won’t have the luxury of thinking about anything other than how to survive, let alone worry about some report a guard made.’
Gord seemed taken aback by Izroth’s words. The influence of the Enrhivers family could not be underestimated. This was even more so when it came to events that took place within the Formation Master Guild.
However, it was the first time Gord saw such a young Honorary Elder. Plus, it was an Honorary Elder of the Apothecary Guild, one of the top three powerhouses of the profession world. Needless to say, they did not hand out the Honorary Elder title to just anyone. That’s why Gord believed that Izroth’s status in the Apothecary Guild must be rather special.
...
After being guided through the Formation Master Guild’s main building, Izroth and Gord arrived at a door located on one of the upper floors.
’Compared to the Apothecary Guild, this place isn’t as lavish. The layered spatial magic formations also makes it much larger than it appears from the outside. In terms of overall space, it must be at least three to four times bigger than the Apothecary Guild’s main building.’
"This is as far as I will escort you. Elder Arden is waiting for you inside. Although brief, it was my pleasure to serve as your guide." Gord stated with humble grace.
Izroth gave a small nod as the door before him opened. He wasted no time as he walked into the room. And, the moment he did so, the doors closed behind him.
...
"This is outrageous! As an Interim Elder, it is well within my authority to send away unwelcomed guests that will bring harm to our Formation Master Guild’s reputation!" A loud and familiar voiced entered Izroth’s ears the instant he arrived in the room.
The voice belonged to Rionso Enrhivers, the man who denied Izroth access to the Formation Master Guild.
The place Izroth walked into was a spacious office with luxurious décor.
Currently, besides Izroth and Rionso Enrhivers, there were two other people in the room. One of them was Haku, the guard who guided Izroth to the Twin Moons INN. The other was an old man in the late stage of life.
