Chapter 1272: Vexpela

Chapter 1272: Vexpela

’Did she manage to see through my disguise?’

The cloak Izroth wore was an item prepared by Hyrell that made it so that others were unable to clearly see Izroth’s face. Those who looked at him would only be able to roughly see a partial lower half of his face.

One thing was for sure, it was not easy for someone to uncover his identity. Regardless, Izroth did not dismiss the fact that the Golden Treasure House was backed by the Golden Dragon Association. Their information network could not be underestimated. Nor could the resources at their disposal. It was possible that they had ways of learning the identity of anyone who walked through their doors.

That being said, the one who approached him, Vexpela, carried herself with an air of confidence. The kind of confidence that came about due to one’s experience in handling all sorts of matters. At the very least, she knew how to tastefully approach Izroth without seeming as though she were trying to expose him.

Still, Izroth did not let his guard down. While it was unlikely that the Duvelle family had its hands in a place under the protection of the Golden Dragon Association, it was not impossible. And, if word managed to get around that Izroth was still walking around Danaharpe, it may ruin the plans he discussed with Hyrell.

"You can call me Sagarus." Izroth said casually.

Sagarus was the name of the Storm Commander of the Great Lightning Army attached to Izroth’s Sword of The Storm. As for why Izroth chose to go with this name, given the Sword of The Storm’s origins, Sagarus a name long lost to the passage of time. It would not cause any potential unnecessary misunderstandings.

"Sir Sagarus, is it? That is quite the interesting name. I have never heard anything like it before in the Seven Kingdoms." Vexpela responded graciously as interest piqued in her eyes.

She then continued, "Pardon my manners, Sir Sagarus. If it is not too much trouble, before the Golden Treasure Hunt begins, may you spare me a bit of your time?"

Vexpela snapped the fan in her hands closed, revealing the face of a stunning beauty.

"I promise to make it well worth your while." Vexpela said with a meaningful smile.

’This person is no simple floor manager. Since she wants to meet in private, that actually works better for me. I can use this chance to see whether or not she truly knows my identity. Plus, someone in her position must surely know a thing or two about how things work in the gray area organizations that exist in Danaharpe. It can help me find a clue to what the League of the Eidolon are up to.’

Izroth gave a small nod of agreement and replied, "Lead the way."

...

A few moments later...

Vexpela led Izroth to one of the luxurious private back rooms located on the second floor of the Golden Treasure House. It was a place typically reserved for VIPs or high ranking nobles. The fact that Vexpela brought him to this place meant that what she wanted to discuss was no small matter.

"Feel free to make yourself comfortable." Vexpela said as she sat on one of the two sofas separated by a table that sat slightly above the height of one’s knees.

Izroth took a seat on the sofa opposite of Vexpela that faced toward her.

"It is not much, but please accept this small display of hospitality." Vexpela said as she lightly tapped the table with her fingers.

The moment she performed this action, three magic circles appeared on the table—one in front of Vexpela, one before Izroth and the last situated between the two.

A couple of seconds later, the magic circles vanished and in their places, two teacups appeared along with a teapot with steam flowing from it.

Vexpela picked up the teapot and poured Izroth some tea.

"This is Cadra Root Tea. It helps in cleansing the body and making one feel refreshed." Vexpela explained as she also poured herself tea before placing the teapot down.

Vexpela took a sip from the teacup before return it to its place.

Izroth looked down at the tea and saw an almost clear green tint to it. Not long after, he consumed the tea in its entirety before he sat the teacup down.

"Good tea." Izroth said calmly.

Vexpela brows rose in surprise. Then, a smile found its way onto her face.

"It is the first time someone has consumed the tea I offered them with such gusto. I must say, I am flattered." Vexpela commented.

In her line of work, it was not uncommon for mistrust to grow as one attempted to raise through the ranks. It was somewhat refreshing to have someone not worried about such troublesome matters.

Of course, Izroth himself did not care if anything was wrong with the drink. With his current resistance to poisons among other things, it would take a great deal for anything he consume to cause any harm.

"I assume that you did not bring me to this place just to offer me a cup of tea. Speak—why did you wish to talk in private?" Izroth inquired.

"Skipping pleasantries... I see. Yes, I prefer to do things in this manner as well. Sir Sagarus, the reason I approached you is simple. You see, I was born with a gift. It allows me to see the potential value someone holds. However, for the first time in my life, do you know what I saw? Unable to calculate. This is something that has never happened to me before today when I laid my eyes upon you." Vexpela said calmly.

However, despite her best efforts to hide it, Izroth could see her body shaking ever so slightly. On the outside she exuded nothing but an air of grace and confidence. But, she could not hide her nerves completely. Though it was understandable.

’It does not seem that she knows my true identity. Still, to see the potential value of someone—it sounds a bit similar to my Divine Appraisal. Of course, the Divine Appraisal can see more than one’s potential. But, from the way she explained it, it does not seem to be that kind of skill.’

In Vexpela’s eyes, Izroth was an unknown entity who was clearly hiding his identity intentionally. Not only that, he was someone who showed her a sight she had never seen before through her skill.

Given Vexpela’s position, she had likely come across countless legendary figures and high-ranking individuals. Yet, even those terrifying people had values attached to them that she could see with her gift.

That is why, for someone like Izroth, who her gift was unable to calculate, was a terrifying existence. She could not help but reveal her nerves before an unknown that appeared absolute.

Who knew what kind of background he had? Nevertheless, Vexpela approached him, which showed that she was someone who was not afraid to taking risks.

"What I wish for is simple. I want to form a partnership with you." Vexpela stated firmly.

She then explained, "I hope you can forgive my earlier deceit. However, in truth, I am not just a simple floor manager of the Golden Treasure House. It is true that I am acting as a floor manager today, but my real identity is a member of the Golden Dragon Association. To be more precise, I am in the running to become one who succeeds the current Head of the Golden Dragon Association."

’Oh? To think she came out and said it herself.’

Naturally, Izroth had used his Divine Appraisal on Vexpela and already uncovered that she was a part of the Golden Dragon Association.

’So, she is one of the potential heirs of the Golden Dragon Association. No wonder she confidently said that it would benefit me as well.’

The Golden Dragon Association went well beyond Danaharpe itself. There was probably not a single place in the entire Mortal Realm where their influence did not reach.

For someone to become the head of such a massive and powerful organization was no simple feat.

"A partnership? If the Golden Dragon Association is involved, then it is clear what you can offer me. However, I am uncertain what it is that you hope I can offer you." Izroth said unhurriedly.

The only thing Vexpela knew about Izroth was the fact that her ability could not calculate his value. Still, if it was just that alone, while it was enough to pique her interest, it should not have been enough for Vexpela to immediately offer a partnership to him.

"I have always been someone who follows her instinct when it comes to business. From the moment I laid eyes on you, my instincts have been screaming at the top of their lungs—I must make this person my partner." Vexpela stated with a look of determination in her eyes.

"For that reason alone?" Izroth asked.

"Yes, that is all." Vexpela responded.

The room turned silent was filled with silence for a few moments. It was not until Izroth spoke that the silence was broken.

"I will listen to what you have to say. However, I make no promises. I also don’t plan on being late for the Golden Treasure Hunt." Izroth said.

"I understand. As I said before, I will certainly make sure it is worth your while, Sir Sagarus." Vexpela said as her lips curved into a smile and she unfolded her fan before her face.
