Chapter 1285: Hinting Desperation
"This is unexpected. The young miss has picked up someone rather interesting this time around. Still, to go up against the Duvelle family so openly... Whether they are confident or just plain reckless—I look forward to seeing it with my own eyes." Lady Kesa thought to herself.
Lady Kesa was taken aback by Izroth’s offer; however, she knew that it was not her place to question the bid being offered.
"No matter what kind of affliction that person has, as long as they have a single breath left in their body, I will bring them back to life without fail. This is the lifeline I offer as my bid." Izroth stated calmly.
"That... Does something like that also count as a bid?" One of the guests said to himself.
"A lifeline isn’t bad since no amount of gold coins is useful once you’re dead. But, isn’t there a question of it’s legitimacy? It’s hard to turn down 10,000,000 gold coins for something so uncertain."
"Hmph! A lifeline? What nonsense! Do you think that you are the Divine Hands of Life and Death? Is the Fourth Pavilion planning on making a mockery of itself while also disregarding my Duvelle family?" A voice sounded from the Duvelle family’s private room.
The Divine Hands of Life and Death was the most famous doctor in the Seven Kingdoms that did not belong to any power. Their healing skills were said to be so great that even if one was on their dying breath, they could be saved.
"Hm? Just a small frog at the bottom of a well, yet you dare to question my abilities and utter such words without knowing your place? Even the king of Amaharpe would have to treat me with some respect when I pay him a visit. Duvelle family? It is not worth entering my sights." Izroth said in a cold and distant voice that carried with it a heavy air of authority.
The auction house erupted in chatter. There was a mixture of shock, curiosity, and doubt among other things.
"Who is this mysterious Supreme Elder that says even the king has to treat him with respect? Aren’t their words too reckless?" A guest said anxiously.
"But, what if they’re telling the truth? The Duvelle family can only swallow their humiliation this time around."
Izroth’s words may sound bold to those who heard them; however, what he said was the truth. Even if one set aside all his accomplishments during the war, Izroth was the holder of the Golden Lustrum Imperial Token.
The Golden Lustrum Imperial Token showed Izroth’s achievements at the second team’s selection that took place on the Sky Palace. As long as he showed it, even the king of Amaharpe had to show him some courtesy. And, if that was not enough, Izroth also held the Dragon Palace Token, Twin Blossom Crest, as well as Zhi’s Medallion.
On top of that, he had maxed out his fame in the kingdom of Amaharpe and even held the Protector of Amaharpe title.
In truth, with such accomplishments at his side, if Izroth ever met with the king of Amaharpe, forget some minor courtesy—he would be treated as an honored guest!
Once Izroth made that statement, the person from the Duvelle family fell silent. If there was one thing nobles feared more than anything, it was a lack of information. All it took was one wrong move for their entire house to left on death’s door.
At the moment, since they had no way of confirming whether Izroth’s words were true or just false bravado, there was no choice but to tread carefully. At the very least, until they were able to find out who they were up against and what kind of background they had that made them so confident.
"I apologize for the late greetings. I am Burake Duvelle, an Elder of the Duvelle family in Danaharpe City. May I ask this sir’s name?" Burake inquired.
"Your intentions are too shallow. Are you trying to figure out my background so that you can decide how arrogant or well behaved you’ll be? With such petty tricks, are you even worthy of hearing my name? Besides, what I choose to offer has nothing to do with you. The offer of my lifeline is to whoever is in possession of the Ore of Dreams—not the Duvelle family." Izroth stated without hesitation.
Burake grit his teeth in anger. He wanted nothing more than to put that arrogant person in their place. But, he held himself back.
"Good..! You had better hope that your identity is equal to your arrogance! Otherwise, you will pay the price for insulting me and the Duvelle family..!" Burake thought to himself as he swallowed the humiliation.
"A single breath, is it? A bold statement. What happens if you fail?" A voice sounded from the Kroma family’s private room.
Everyone in the auction house was surprised by the Kroma family’s actions. It was well known that the Kroma family did not get involved in the affairs of Danaharpe. Yet, they were stepping up in a situation where the Duvelle family had been openly embarrassed and lost face.
Of course, there were a few who were more well informed about certain matters.
"If I fail, then I shall offer my life in exchange. Are you satisfied with this much?" Izroth responded.
"Your words—I will see to it that they are upheld. I accept the Fourth Pavilion Supreme Elder’s offer." The voice from the Kroma family private room sounded.
’Oh? The Ore of Dreams belonged to them? This worked out better than I expected.’
The reason Izroth specified "whoever is in possession of the Ore of Dreams" earlier was to get the Kroma family to make a move. After all, based on what he learned from Vexpela, Amelia Hart, the Grand Duke of Harpe’s only child, was still unconscious.
Since Amelia Hart was under the care of the Kroma family, they must have been desperately searching for a way to heal her. And, seeing as how they gave up a Grade Nine Morning Phoenix Pill proved that even something that powerful did not work. This could only mean one of two things. The first was the Amelia Hart’s injuries were beyond what a grade nine pill could handle. Or, the wound she suffered from was not something physical.
Regardless, if the Kroma family could not find a way to heal the Grand Duke’s cherished daughter, the consequences would be disastrous.
"I fear this kind of exchange may leave the Golden Treasure House in an awkward position." Izroth said in a meaningful tone.
’Since I’ve stirred up a bit of trouble, I should at least do this much as a Supreme Elder.’
"The Kroma family will pay 15,000,000 gold coins to the Golden Treasure House to cover the transaction fee. Is this amount acceptable to you, Supreme Elder?" The Kroma family representative asked calmly.
’Oh? To think they would offer 5,000,000 gold coins above the last offer. Is this their way of showing their sincerity? Or, is it another sign of their desperation? Well, either way, if there’s one thing noble families who’ve been around for a while never lack it’s money.’
"To show such consideration—the Kroma family is rather generous. Then, I will not reject your kindness." Izroth replied in a carefree manner.
