Chapter 1292: The Valkoryi
"43,000,000 gold coins. All previous benefits still stands. If there is a particular treasure you desire, we may discuss it at your leisure. If there are two things our Golden Dragon Association does not lack, it is gold and treasures." The representative from the Golden Dragon Association stated.
In the blink of an eye, the bidding competition had narrowed down to five groups. The Duvelle family, Golden Dragon Association, Formation Master Guild, Lunar Palace and one group who kept their identity hidden.
Lunar Palace was a large sect based in the northern region of the Amaharpe Kingdom. Most of their members mainly trained in sword arts; however, there were those who took up other weapons to display their strength.
One’s mastery of the Lunar Palace’s arts were determined by what kind of moon one could form when performing the sect’s technique. When one reached the ninth stage, they would be considered a master of the Lunar Palace’s arts, regardless of what weapon they wielded.
At the moment, the person who represented the Lunar Palace was an elderly woman known to the world as the Lunar Butterfly, Nila. She was an elder of the Lunar Palace who managed to reach the eighth stage of the Lunar Palace’s arts.
"The Lunar Palace is willing to offer 43,500,000 gold coins. We are also willing to part with two refined bars of One-Thousand-Year Crescent Lunar Iron. If you wish, we can also have our artisans craft an item of your choice from them." Nila offered.
’One-Thousand-Year Crescent Lunar Iron—I’ve read about it before in the Amaharpe Palace Library. It’s among the top 25 metals most sought after when making weapons or armor. Of course, it can’t compare to something like the Ore of Dreams. However, it’s incredibly difficult to obtain a single raw ore, let alone a full refined bar.’
The bid had already reached a staggering 43,500,000 gold coins. With the current conversation rate, that was the equivalent of roughly 6.525 billion RMB1!
Not accounting for any personal wealth, even if all ten of the top guilds combined their annual budgets together, it would be less than 10% of that amount!
"45,000,000 gold coins!" Burake shouted as he glanced over at Black Fox.
"Dammit...! Since we’ve already invested so heavily into expanding our influence in Danaharpe City, we’re a bit short on funds..! Even this much is stretching the limits of what we’re currently capable of putting forth!" Burake inwardly agonized.
"The Kroma family offers 46-" A voice started from one of the private rooms; however, it fell silent.
A few moments later, the voice sounded and said, "The Kroma family will no longer participate in this bid."
Burake’s eyes lit up when he heard those words. Now that the Kroma family was dropping out, there was no one who could offer as many immediate benefits as his Duvelle family besides the Golden Dragon Association. However, even if they were more powerful and influential overall, even they did not have as much influence in Danharpe as the Duvelle family!
"We will also no longer participate in this bid." A voice sounded from one of the private rooms.
It belonged to the mysterious group who had never once revealed their identity.
With two of the participants out, all the remained was Burake, the Golden Dragon Association and the Formation Master Guild. However, it had been a while since the Formation Master Guild made its last offer.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Suddenly, Izroth heard a series of knocks at his door.
"En-" Izroth started; however, before he could even get a word out, the door seemed to ripple like a stone dropped onto a still surface of water.
The following moment, a familiar figure walked through the door as if it were intangible.
"You sure have a unique way of keeping a low profile. It would seem that I have picked up quite an interesting student." Hyrell said as she walked over toward Izroth.
"Teacher." Izroth said as he stood to his feet and cupped his hand into his fist.
Although Hyrell was not his master, she would be the one responsible for teaching him what it meant to be an Arcane Script Runemaster. For Izroth, a teacher deserved at least this level of respect.
"I never thought that you would be the owner of that treasure. If not for the scroll you sent, I suppose I never would have known. That aside, are you serious about what you mentioned in the scroll?" Hyrell inquired.
"I, Izroth, am never the type to go back on my word. If you need the Transforming Rebirth’s Embrace, I will accept your offer right now." Izroth stated without the slightest bit of hesitation or regret in his eyes.
"You... The more I think about it, the more it’s a waste that you are not my direct disciple." Hyrell said as she released a regretful sigh.
In Izroth’s eyes, the Transforming Rebirth’s Embrace’s value was nothing compared to further reinforcing and building his connection with Hyrell. Not to mention, it was not as if he would get nothing out of doing so. And, if it was something that she desperately needed, Izroth did not mind taking a step back from making an immediate profit.
"As tempting as that sounds, I will have to decline. What kind of teacher would I be if I took advantage of my student’s kindness? While it’s true that this treasure can help to restore my strength at an accelerated rate, overall, it does not have much use to me. I simply wished to study it for personal matters." Hyrell explained.
"Oh? If it’s just that much, there’s no need to bid on it any further. I can arrange for its delivery to be delayed so that you may study it for a bit. How long do you need?" Izroth asked.
"Just a couple of hours is fine." Hyrell responded.
"Then, I’ll see that it’s done. Though, I am curious. What is it that you wish to study about it?" Izroth questioned.
"Hm... While I will have to take a closer look to be absolutely certain, if I am not mistaken, that coffin may have belonged to a member of the now extinct ancient race, the Valkoryi." Hyrell answered.
"The Valkoryi? I’ve never heard of them." Izroth commented.
"That’s not surprising. Even during my time 150 years ago, they had already been extinct for nearly 1,000 years." Hyrell stated.
"If you’re interested in them—is it related to magic formations? Or, perhaps, does it have to do with Arcane Script Runemasters?" Izroth said in a meaningful tone.
"You catch on fast. As you know, I had to create my own path to becoming an Arcane Script Runemaster. During those years of research, there was one word that came up continuously—Valkoryi. At first, I thought it was just an unknown term used by Arcane Script Runemasters. However, I eventually discovered that it is the name of a now extinct ancient race. While I have no definitive proof, it is my own theory that the Valkoryi are the ones responsible for the creation of Arcane Scripts and were the first Arcane Script Runemasters." Hyrell revealed.
