Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4667: A Gift To Close The Distance

Chapter 4667: A Gift To Close The Distance

"What’s this?"

Shirley received the gift. It was a jade container neatly inlaid with ruby ornaments. When she opened it, she saw a phoenix hairpin by the side of a pill. Rather than the pill, her eyes loomed over the fantastic crimson hairpin, her expression blossoming with a lovely smile.

"Little sister, you sure know how to impress me. Did you receive a hint?"

Fairy Xiu Juili merely glanced at Evelynn while saying nothing, causing Shirley to giggle.

She turned around, displaying her back to Xiu Juili.

Xiu Juili took the phoenix hairpin and gently lifted Shirley’s fiery-blue hair, pinning them up with practiced grace. The crimson hairpin slid in seamlessly, its carved feathers spreading like burning petals against Shirley’s vibrant hair, accentuating her allure.

"It suits you," Xiu Juili took two steps back and finally said, her voice soft but carrying a faint undertone of pride as though she made it herself.

Shirley’s smile widened as she looked at Evelynn and Isabella.

She turned back around and twirled lightly, the phoenix hairpin catching the ambient light and scattering faint scarlet glimmers like embers dancing in the wind.

Evelynn’s gaze shifted from the pill to the two of them, her lips curling into a warm smile, "You two look like you’ve known each other for years."

"Maybe in another life," Shirley teased, before her eyes fell on the pill again. Her demeanor shifted, a touch of curiosity replacing her playful tone. "But this... what kind of pill is it?"

Xiu Juili’s emerald-colored twin pupils landed on the jade container, "It’s a Latent Phoenix Rebirth Pill of the Immortal Emperor Grade. It’s something I bought when a Seven-Colored Phoenix Race’s Skytune Clan’s prince tried to court me and allowed me to buy it for cheap, but it was still extremely expensive, so I had to borrow from Ralaza. It’s not something I’d casually give to anyone, as it’s a life-saving pill and the pill recipe is heavily guarded, but at our level, it’s currently useless to us. Perhaps sister Dalila can decipher its recipe and concoct a new pill at the Empyrean Grade or even the Exalt Grade to allow you to gain more benefits from it."

The room fell into a brief silence. Even Evelynn’s usually calm expression flickered with surprise.

Shirley blinked, her lips parting slightly, "...You’re serious?"

"Would I joke about something like this?" Xiu Juili raised a brow, her tone light but her words heavy with meaning, "I heard this pill grants even the ordinary cultivator a second chance at life. It could revive them as long as they aren’t killed by a cultivator who’s above by a major stage. But I can’t confirm if it’s true since."

"It is true..."

Shirley’s heart skipped. She did hear about this pill before. She felt the weight of the small pill far more than the hairpin now.

"Why give me something so precious?" she asked, her voice softening.

"Is that even a question? I’m doing my best to garner the favor of the so-called big three. Of course, I have prepared gifts for all of my sisters."

Fairy Xiu Juili giggled, causing the others to smile ceaselessly.

The new sister of the harem was incredibly social and amusing with her antics. Even Evelynn and Isabella had received gifts when Xiu Juili was brought here by Davis. Still, the gifts weren’t as good as the ones she’s handing over to Shirley.

But as big sisters, Isabella and Evelynn naturally couldn’t find fault. They were rather happy for Shirley.

"There’s no need, really~" Shirley grabbed Xiu Juili’s hands, "As long as you show your faithfulness to darling, we’ll naturally accept you as one of us. The rest is something we’ll figure out with our daily interactions. Things like gifts will only serve to separate the others from us, as there’s this thing called comparison."

"..." Fairy Xiu Juili blinked. She smiled embarrassedly, "I have been ignorant of the unity you all share. Please forgive me."

"It’s fine." Isabella’s lips curled lightly, "It’s been a while since we had any interactions with other sisters. I was really happy when little sister Juili gave me a present."

"Indeed." Shirley and Evelynn agreed.

They invited Juili to a tea party while chasing away the children and the others also took their leave. With everyone gone, their conversation flowed seamlessly as they discussed many topics, mainly about Davis. This helped them share their views and become closer with Xiu Juili one step at a time.

Eventually, Evelynn excused herself to check the edges of the formation to see that it wasn’t mystically intruded. She saw the Heavenshades at another palace, sensing them practicing cultivation. She saw the Mistwalkers doing the same thing.

Then a rabbit woman emerged from the gates of the fortress, reporting to her with a reverent attitude.

"Mistress Evelynn, there’s no unusual activity outside."

"Good, Alinna. Continue to be more vigilant for the next few days. If you happen to find anything, even catch the faintest silhouette of a person or anything loitering around strangely, immediately contact me."

"Yes, Mistress~" Alinna cupped her hands obediently as she bowed, her rabbit ears fully standing.

With a grab on the hilt of her sword, she bowed once again and left for the gate.

Evelynn watched this new maid of the Davis Family work rather hard, making her wonder where Davis was getting these faithful and hardworking maids. She wasn’t against her since the more maids the Davis Family had, the better it was for the harem members. Otherwise, the current maids would suffer from working too hard.

Moreover, they lacked battle maids. There was only Esvele who fit the description, and Illumina had already left for the Nether Dimension. Therefore, Alinna perfectly fit into this role. Evelynn was sure that they could nurture her into a terrifying battle maid since she was a user of the sword whom Tanya could train.

’Tanya’s first disciple, mhm...’ She shook her head, wondering if Tanya would accept.

Regardless, she left, patrolling the surroundings.

Next, she returned to the palace, but as a mother, she went to visit her daughter, finding her at the entrance to another hall.

Viridia appeared to be looking at the thundering skies.

"Are you really fine?" Evelynn asked after closing the distance.

"Ma..." Viridia looked exasperated, "Azariel was just teasing. How could I care about some random man I just met and killed?"

"I don’t doubt that." Evelynn shook her head, "I’m asking if ’you’ are alright. It’s my sin that has caused you to be viewed in such a perspective."

"..." Viridia went silent.

It wasn’t exactly her first time facing a man who deemed her a slut, a witch, evil poison cultivator. When showcasing her poison ability, she would see warm expressions turn sour, cold, and outraged in an instant. They would either look at her like she needs to be killed or a piece of meat that needs to be taken advantage of.

Her beauty was indeed flawless, like her mother, so the ’righteous’ experts would want her even with the threat of poison.

Hence, she wasn’t exactly unfamiliar with this situation. It was because she was familiar that she instantly killed that man, not bothering to hear his reasons.

However, that didn’t mean she was cold and indifferent. She was hurt each time.

Her lips began to quiver, causing Evelynn to silently embrace her.

"Ma... is poison such a devious and wicked energy...?" Viridia didn’t cry, but her voice cracked.

"No, like every energy, it depends on who’s using it..."

"I know... but... when someone hears poison... It’s like they become entirely a different person..."

"They’re just scared, but that doesn’t give them the right to insult you like that. The right thing for them to do would be to leave silently. However, they try to harm you despite you showing no hostility. They’re the ones who are evil. They act righteous, but their hearts are wicked. You mustn’t be fooled. However, don’t be dejected. Someone like your father will come for you, who doesn’t mind being poisoned to death by you..."

"Really...?" Viridia bit her lips.

Evelynn smiled wryly, "Actually, don’t you remember it’s your father who made me practice poison after finding out that I have a great affinity with it? He didn’t accept me as a poison cultivator. Instead, he was the one who made me a poison cultivator and thoroughly enjoyed the process."

She reminisced, her smile turning more beautiful and nostalgic, "He... he was never scared of my poison, no matter how deadly it became, perhaps due to his powers. However, he never once doubted me, so when finding a man, you should remember this point. Not anyone would do. Ignore the men who lash out at you. They’re just making it easier for you to choose. One day, there will be a man who looks at your true self and says: Ah, I want to die by your hands. You can consider choosing him..."

"..."

Viridia’s purple eyes gleamed. She brought her head back and nodded at her mother firmly.

Those who were prepared to marry a poison cultivator usually had a death wish or no choice.
