Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4755 A Black Temple

Chapter 4755  A Black Temple

"…"

The incredible pressure from these senses left Davis nearly breathless.

He guessed there were as many as forty Exalt Spirits just from that one sweep alone. They didn't particularly do anything, but it nearly froze his body as his instinctual reaction was to come to a stop and quickly come up with ways to retreat safely. Regardless, he forced himself to hover, hand-in-hand with Rioxys Plume.

He glanced at her lightly, knowing she was trying to grab his hand and give him courage to move forward, but her intentions could be quite misplaced as he imagined that he might offend many people, including her grandfather.

As they landed on the floating island, the mist cleared and Davis could see a mountain peak, and hovering above it was a triangular-shaped black temple structure that possession peculiar yet powerful runes.

However, these runes were not from the Sky Word Language, leaving Davis not knowing what their functions were.

Rioxys Plume summoned a black cloud. Jumping on it, she took him above as the rolling black clouds made their way unimpeded.

At the foot of the mountain peak, they met with two guards standing before the giant crimson gates. They held an earthen spear and stood like rocks, their body filled with earth essence.

They were earthen spirits who had reached the Exalt Stage. Right as Davis tried to guess what kind of spirit tier they were in-

"Heh! Little human, you're at least brave to withstand all those senses, including mine, without cowering. What's your name?"

One of the guards asked with a blatant smile. However, his gaze wasn't even on Davis but the jade container, his gaze filled with subdued greed.

"Shut up." Rioxys Plume coldly spoke, which caused the two guards to stand at attention.

Their expressions looked unsightly, while their forehead seemed to be drenched in sweat.

"…" Davis was speechless.

It seems like he wouldn't leave here alive?

Even though they might not dare offend this young mistress, he was game.

"If this human dies for any reason, you two will die along with him, I swear!"

Rioxys Plume coldly spat out and then ventured into the gates that opened for her while the guards went aghast. The black cloud rolled into the peak, carrying Davis, who didn't know what to say. Was the innocent Rioxys foolish or smart?

'But it seems like she had her own share of issues in the past few months and possibly overcame some… She should know how to traverse this place. I should trust her decisions here…' Davis rubbed his chin as he thought.

It wasn't long before Rioxys Plume and he entered the gates of the black temple.

The dark mist here swayed soundlessly, trembling like suppressed realms. The darkness energy bled through from the black smoke, whispering a hungry nature. The ponds carried the essence of darkness way above what he could absorb, pulsing with eerie silence.

Davis felt like this was a place full of darkness, yet it felt sacred. The juxtaposition between these two concepts made him feel quite intrigued, making him compare his darkness energy to that which hadn't attained such a realm. Within this dark mist, he could vaguely sense soul senses sweep past him. These sweeps were getting stronger the nearer he got to his destination.

It seems like Rioxys Plume had direct access to visit her grandfather, or he didn't know how many times he would be stopped.

Finally, after moving through many halls and corridors, Davis arrived before an altar.

Above the altar, there was a semi-transparent curtain draped to shield one's view, but even with that, Davis recalled how his senses warned him not to look at the deity. It was a primal sensation from his soul warning him of death should he he bold enough to see, causing him to lower his head.

However, he didn't speak since there seemed to be already an audience.

"Guardian! We humbly give this tribute, consisting of fourteen Exalt Grade resources, two Exalt Grade Armaments, and one Darkness Quintessence Orb at High-Level Exalt Grade. My Seeplock Tribe is willing to be at your feet, forever serve as your arms and legs, always at your service…"

Davis cast a glance at a fire spirit who was kneeling along with a few others.

After his soul prowess rose and he gained new heights after sacrificing his soul essence and even unlocking the powers of the nine-petaled lotus mark on his forehead, he could sense much better. He was now able to detect High-Level Exalt soul senses with some difficulty, when previously, if the entity was above Mid-Level Exalt Stage, he wouldn't be able to pinpoint their exact level.

Therefore, the fact that he couldn't tell what this fire spirit's cultivation could only mean that he was at the peak of the Exalt Stage, like the Thousand Scale Soul Dragon outside. He was thoroughly shocked to see so many tribes here with powerful spirits. If they descended on any Upper Realm ruling power, they could exterminate it with ease, that is, if they could break the layer limit.

Yet, even a Peak-Level Exalt Spirit had to be humble in front of a True Deity Spirit, an Archon.

Suppressing his emotions, he continued to listen while wondering if Rioxys Plume's grandfather was consolidating power through force or if this fire spirit tribe was looking for a way to survive after offending someone powerful.

Either way, he felt that their wavelengths matched, and then they would accept each other's wishes.

"Hmm." A heavy voice, firm yet also full of magnanimity, echoed, "From now on, your Seeplock Tribe will belong to me. The matter regarding your enmity with the Feyleen Tribe under Grand Elder Catalyx will be taken care of in due time. I will issue you orders later. Now leave."

"Yes~"

The fire spirit appeared overjoyed and turned around to leave. As he moved past them, he shot a glance at Rioxys Plume and bowed to her silently before leaving.

After they left, Davis returned his gaze but lowered his head.

He could feel the Guardian's gaze on him.

"Fortunately, you aren't dumb enough to leave by yourself after daring to offend Cloud Elder Zaratu. If you had left the fruit there, I would've left it like that since the situation in this mountain is quite complex currently, but you knew to bring it to me and gain my protection. Did my granddaughter help you understand the intricacies?"

"…"

Having his thoughts laid bare, Davis simply smiled as he patted the jade container, "Guardian, who said I'm going to give this to you?"

"…"

For a moment, there was a resounding silence, a helpless silence, a terrified silence.

Rioxys Plume looked at Davis with tears in her eyes, wondering why he was courting death. Even she dared not speak like that to her grandfather.

"Grandfather… don't misunderstand. He says that he's going to gift the fruit to me. Isn't that right?" She hurriedly tried to support him.

Davis turned to look at Rioxys Plume, still smiling at her with some pride. She had even grown to be able to help others and navigate the world better than before, where she had been driving the Eternal Eclipse Bird into various tribes and making them fly out like bees disturbed out of their honey-creating seclusion.

He returned his gaze and nodded, "Yes, although I'm reluctant, I am willing to give it to Rioxys Plume and aid in her cultivation."

The Guardian of the Mountain took a closer look at him, his lips curling, "It matters not who you're going to give it to, since I was going to give it to her too. That fruit isn't of any help to me at my level. Regardless, you shouldn't have touched Cloud Elder Zaratu's fruit. Now he certainly has the right to follow you out and hunt you down personally instead of sending his subordinates. Oh- you are human. His faction does not look well upon humans, so you're dead either way. Speak, what is your request?"

He asked as though he already knew the answer.

Davis took in the words and deliberated for a moment, "Naturally, I want to be able to leave this place alive and return to a safe place. But on second thought, I think I'll take your granddaughter back with me."

"…" Rioxys Plume mechanically turned to look at Davis.

She wanted to throw herself in front of him and beg for mercy, as it was the second time he was audacious. She feared he would just explode in her sight.

"…" The Guardian of the Mountain was also silent before his voice echoed coldly.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed by me? Just because you are an Anarchic Divergent with a strange soul that I have never seen, do you think of yourself to be undying? I have plenty of ways to seal you and cause pain for an eternity."

"…" Davis's brows twitched, "It's a misunderstanding. I apologize if I came across as rude, but I'm sure you want to reunite with your daughter, Rioxys Plume's mother."

Abruptly, the dark mist around him rippled as though a tremor ran through the existence before him.

Davis's heart couldn't beat anymore loudly, but he forced a calm smile and continued to strike while the iron was hot, "The only way I can convince your daughter to return is if I have Rioxys Plume with me. As a True Deity like yourself, I am sure you are restricted in more ways than one, blocking your path to enter the True Immortal World. As a junior, I will be willing to take on your request and bring back your daughter in one piece. How about it? Are you willing to bet on this Anarchic Divergent?"
