Chapter 4884 Aboard The Flying Ship
*Zmmm~*
The faint hum of the flying ship traversing through the skies could be heard outside.
Golden light traced along the corridor's edges, runes flaring softly before settling into a subdued glow. The private room was vast, far larger than what a 'merchant representative' should reasonably possess. The floor was paved with mirror-polished spatial jade tiles, each etched with small spatial runes that allowed a walking person to move multiple steps in one step.
At this moment, a faint silhouette passed by the guards, their eyes turning dull.
The door between the two guards opened.
Inside, Jiayi Crystalveil was watching the translucent wall of crystallized starlight curve along one side of the chamber, revealing the endless river of utilized energy that the ship left behind while making a curve to go around a mountain. The verdant mountain drifted past in slow motion, its colors refracted into gentle hues that bathed the room in an otherworldly glow.
"Your eminence, is that you?"
Hearing the door open, Jiayi Crystalveil looked over to the entrance, her golden eyes wary yet eager at the same time.
A black-robed person stepped inside, but Jiayi Crystalveil stood up with a relieved smile.
"Please sit~"
Davis nodded and took her seat while she kept standing.
He opened his mouth, "It wasn't easy following you while eluding the senses of your True Peak Emporium's Primarchs, much less soaring in the skies while trying to catch up to this fast flying ship. I suppose if they hadn't used a majority of the fuel to activate their propulsion formation to quickly come pick you up, I would've never had the chance to talk to you face to face."
"My apologies, your eminence." Jiayi Crystalveil bowed, "My power got frantic after hearing there were multiple assassination attempts. It was an assassin from the Malevolent Blade Hall. Fortunately, Fairy Retribution was there to help me deal with it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have survived today."
"Who is so daring as to harm my subordinate? I heard he was a supreme genius capable of battling eight levels higher… and his skill with Blood Laws also appeared to be extraordinary?" Davis shamelessly praised himself while looking inquisitive.
"My power already finished investigating the assassin. With his face exposed, he wouldn't be able to hide from anyone. He's actually from the Blood Tempest Sovereign Lower Realms, one of their Grand Elders known as G'haren Bloodrain."
'That fast? Woah… with this information already available, they would know he wasn't that strong initially but suddenly became powerful… which is one step closer to finding me…'
Davis was taken aback but wasn't really surprised by a merchant's ability to identify already known individuals. It was all the more easier since G'haren Bloodrain was a Grand Elder of a ruling hegemonic power in the Lower Realms. He supposed they had an entire list already ready for these kinds of individuals.
"What now? Since Fairy Retribution saved you, have you befriended her?"
Jiayi Crystalveil's expression twitched behind her veil, "It was you, wasn't it?"
"…" Davis raised his brows as he looked at her in surprise, "What makes you think that?"
Jiayi Crystalveil's heart shook, but she didn't act or avoid, knowing she wouldn't be able to hide the matter.
"Please forgive me if I was wrong. The assassin- despite looking and carrying the aura of a completely different person, I saw you in him. I felt I was going insane. This wasn't obvious before, but the more I think about it, the more I can tell it was you from the mannerisms. I didn't even realize it until G'haren Bloodrain died. Even though the target was me, there wasn't much killing intent against me after the first time. It was as though the assassin specifically came here for Fairy Retribution."
Davis looked at her with pleasant surprise.
'So after the impersonation ends, it becomes easier to 'realize' in hindsight if they already had the suspicion… amazing… this is helpful information…' He contemplated for a few moments before asking.
"It couldn't be that Fairy Retribution was much more of a stronger opponent for the assassin than he expected, so he ended up being mesmerized by the battle and forgot to escape?"
Jiayi Crystalveil shook her head, "Perhaps, but an expert assassin would've run the moment he found she had backing. A normal assassin would've fled the moment he saw that her prowess was extremely high. He wouldn't dare offend her. A novice assassin would've-"
"Alright, alright…" Davis stopped her as he raised his hand, "I see you have much experience hiring assassins. Setting this matter aside for now, I said to you that if you want to leave, let me know, and I'll erase your memories of our current interaction and past secretive deals. Finally, that will be the end of our business relationship. Now that your memories returned, what do you propose?"
He didn't confirm or deny her suspicions for her own safety.
"…" Jiayi Crystalveil wryly smiled, "I really can't hide anything from you, can I?"
She walked across him, her demeanor helpless yet amused, "I have so many things to say, but don't dare open my mouth. If you could realize what I went through, you might want to kill me for not allowing you to gain an advantage when you had the chance, but if I open my mouth, Fairy Retribution and her backing will end me."
She turned to look at him, her smile growing more profound, "In this state- what would I do? Naturally, I will double down. I warned the others not force me, and they didn't. You didn't. You were even willing to let me go, and for that, I'm extremely grateful. Fairy Retribution also didn't force me but sought me out for another matter. Therefore, I am still able to maintain my sanity. However, I will still say a few things. Fairy Retribution is someone you must capture, but you must never underestimate her. She is a member of one of the apex families."
Davis watched her eyes quiver, waiting for his reaction.
He slightly moved back as he looked up at the ceiling, making himself more comfortable.
"I am already aware."
"…!?" Jiayi Crystalveil flinched, taking a few steps back in shock, "Impossible…"
Davis's gaze moved to her, "Not a bad luxurious couch. Either way, I will have to depend on you to contact Fairy Retribution later since I have Zhao Yan with me."
"…"
Jiayi Crystalveil froze. She basically dropped to the ground as her legs went limp and her blood went cold, her body trembling.
"You two… are really the end of me…" She uttered, a light giggle escaping from her mouth.
She was at an extreme loss. It was as though the Divine Emperor of Death always stayed beside her, spying on her conversation with Anastasia Archus, but still hadn't made a move. However, she knew that it shouldn't be possible since the latter's guardian was a Peak Exalt-level character.
How could he not notice!?
Davis stood up as he felt like he stressed her enough. He pulled her hand up and made her stand up.
"Don't worry. You'll only arrange the transaction and not get personally involved in it. I'll send you the specifics later since I don't want to exchange him now. You might even come face-to-face with the Celestial Transcendent. I really want to see if he would be daring enough to commit murder when you're only trying to help out, get his son-in-law back…"
"…" Jiayi Crystalveil watched Davis grin in horror.
However, her mind spun, creating a situation where she successfully managed to return the hostage without any incidents, making her reputation resound far and wide.
"Yes, this is ultimately a transaction overseen by a third party… they won't kill me, and I might even receive immunity…"
Jiayi Crystalveil suddenly saw a ray of light through the darkness. However, her expression couldn't be anymore ridiculous as her golden eyes were moist and her expression scrunched in fear. But there was a certain craziness in her eyes that wanted to get back at the world, get back at the merchants who looked down on her, get back at the two parties who were trying to force her, all while making a huge profit.
"Very good!" Davis patted her shoulder as he saw her self-hypnotizing herself.
With his Heart Intent, he could tell it was her mentality adapting itself to the intense pressure forced on her. He inwardly praised her for not breaking under the circumstances, as any person would've folded like a mat and stepped into the coffin themselves.
*Knock* *Knock!~*
"Young Mistress, are you still there? We're coming in!"
"Tch, they noticed so quick…"
Davis clicked his tongue before pointing at Jiayi Crystalveil's head and transmitting information before his soul body dispersed.
Jiayi Crystalveil was stunned, but a few seconds later, she saw the guards coming in.
'Young Mistress, did you see anyone strange here? It's possible someone snuck in to the ship since a guard was knocked out."
"No, but you're the strange person to me. Show me your identification token."
Jiayi Crystalveil reached out her jade hand, causing the guard to be dumbfounded before he hurriedly tried to prove himself, almost forgetting the previous matter.
However, Jiayi Crystalveil's eyes glazed as she remembered his voice resounding in her head.
"If we manage to come out on top, I will never forsake you, regardless of whether you want to leave or not after this issue is over, Jiayi. I will owe you greatly. Whatever you want, it will be yours as long as I can get it, so do your best to survive."
"..."
Jiayi Crystalveil felt her cheeks turn hot, 'This man... he made it sound like he's whispering right beside my ear... clearly, he's scheming...'
However, the smile on Jiayi Crystalveil's face said something else entirely that the guard who was facing her felt honored.
He went out and murmured, "Young Mistress smiled at me brightly... I can now die in peace..."
