Chapter 4961 Prime Suspects
Mingzhi was about to leave when a messaging talisman went off in her spatial ring.
"No need to search for me. I was also here."
"You were…?" Mingzhi's brows twitched. Then why didn't he just reveal himself instead of sending a message through a communication talisman?
Abruptly, she saw an eyeball with a sapphire pupil manifest in front of her, making her nearly jump. She forcefully controlled herself and smiled wryly.
"Wouldn't it be just better to use soul sense?" Mingzhi spoke into the messaging talisman.
"No, the Threat Assessment Test allowed for allies is also an act of privacy. When getting their statement, only you are allowed to know about their secret stories and other things they want to keep hidden. It would be rude for me to listen, much less garner their emotions with Heart Intent, so I kept to the minimal, only seeing and hearing."
"You are not bound by such rules. Mmph, if it wasn't your daughter, you would be standing by their side in a concealed manner, intending to eliminate them."
"…" Davis turned speechless. She wasn't wrong. He coughed, "I figured this is going to take some more time, so I was writing letters for Aila and couldn't come here. In any case, this is a problematic matter and cannot be dealt with lightly."
"What? Are you writing letters for Aila? I demand you write me one now."
"Will you spare me from paperwork?"
"Okay, I don't need the letters."
"You're so cold…" Davis cried from the other side.
Mingzhi pouted. She wanted a love letter as much as she wanted to get the paperwork done. She could never let him go free, or it would be the first step to the fall of the Davis Family. They were mostly approved or disapproved, but he needed to read them all and sign them with his own hands in order to know what's going on in his own family.
She wouldn't allow him to remain ignorant of any situation.
"So, I'm here now…"
Davis descended from the entrance and walked into the hall.
Mingzhi put down the messaging talisman and stood up. She didn't say anything and hurriedly went to hug him, finally finding him all alone with her. She remained silent, and Davis let her recharge herself.
His Mingzhi was always working hard without a break. He wondered if she slept well and had enough rest, causing him to gently caress her head. His life energy gently seeped from the back of her head, giving her a soft, pleasurable sensation that eased her mind.
Mingzhi felt like she was floating. His divine hands were as godly as ever.
For full three minutes, she remained like this before letting him go, her cheeks carrying a healthy hue.
Mingzhi shot a cheeky smile at him before bringing him back to the desk and letting him read the report she had made.
Davis took a short look since he had already seen it with his eyes.
"Lydia is also pitiful. She experienced no true affection in her previous life. Everything was artificial or forced. She got poisoned even though she had no enemies. Although she had rivals from the other peaks, there was no way they could've interfered in her peak's activities, making her alleged close ones the prime suspects."
Davis sighed, "On top of this, I presume this fiasco could be caused by some Divergent who entered her peak secretly, or is also a born member of the Starshroud Family who deeply hides themselves."
"Oh? Why do you think that there is a Divergent involved?"
"Because I think the poison they used must be one of truesoul erasure as well, but it didn't work because fate forcefully brought her here to wreak havoc for various factors, especially awakening her when I left the family, but it didn't end up going that way since Lydia came to love the family. If you think otherwise, how could the suspects not know the Phoenix Priestess would escape using the Grand Divine Phoenix Constellation? They would have targeted Lydia's truesoul regardless… so they must've been thorough, but she still managed to escape against all odds..."
"Makes sense…" Mingzhi couldn't help but nod after hearing Davis's explanation.
Although she couldn't understand much about the fate part, she could tell he had his own understanding of fate that was higher than anyone else she knew.
"What are the chances one of these suspects is the hidden Divergent?"
"High," Davis answered without hesitating, "I figure it is her fiancé since he is younger than her but said to be equal or even more talented, only lacking time to become the Phoenix Priest because he was born in the wrong generation. I don't think her master and the others could hide themselves for so long since it is said they have been alive for hundreds and thousands of years and the maid is said to be average in terms of cultivation."
"Makes sense." Mingzhi nodded, her gaze bright.
To guess this from just his own understanding of fate, she was dazzled by his intelligence as always.
"Well, let me know if I'm wrong after sending the spies. Also, make sure to remain anonymous since we don't want anyone tracing back to us."
"Understood."
Mingzhi nodded and waited for him to speak again.
"Alright, I think I have an idea who the culprits of the incestuous relationship might be, but I won't disparage them or put them on the spot before getting proof. I'll go see my parents and siblings for a bit."
"Oh? Your mother is going to be mad since you haven't paid her a formal visit yet."
Davis took a deep breath, "Arrange my burial."
"Will do~" Mingzhi giggled, "A double-sized coffin for the two of us."
Davis eyed Mingzhi, their thoughts churning naughtily.
Davis turned around to leave, but was then reminded, "Also, keep an eye on Evelynn and Zenova. Don't let their invisible fight spread too much and affect the harem."
"Hehe, I sensed their emotions. Clearly, they acknowledge each other and have almost made up, but refuse to shake hands because they hate each other's guts. They're funny~" Mingzhi giggled.
"But don't worry, I will look after them as much as I can. Zenova is cool. She is not as bad as I thought she was."
'You didn't know what I had to do to get her to that point…'
Davis thought but didn't say, only nodding before leaving.
Suddenly, Mingzhi grabbed his sleeves, stopping him.
"Hey, would you also like it if I make my design my mansion with opulent materials and furniture, and dress myself pretty with exquisite and luxurious robes and wealthy ornaments?"
"Why wouldn't I?" Davis's lips curled, "I would love it, but don't follow Zenova's example since she is indeed a person who values etiquette and rules she made to an irrational degree, but that is her charm, so I dig it. As for you all, do as you want. I love individuality more than layering oneself with ornaments. That's why Evelynn always didn't glamorize herself, rarely dressing herself up other than for special occasions."
"Mhm, I understand."
Mingzhi nodded sweetly and let him go.
Davis leaned in to kiss her lips fondly before bidding her farewell.
He left the hall and flew up, heading to his parents' home.
They appeared to be dining since there were many dishes carried around by maids, so he went ahead and pushed open the door.
"Father, mother. I'm back!"
Davis smilingly walked but saw that the whole family was here.
From his siblings to his half-siblings and even his other mothers, it appeared to be a grand feast.
