Chapter 5313: The Chosen
*Ping~*
The votes accumulated at the end of the hall, displayed through a projection device that seemed to have many indicators.
Blue light shone from one of the indicators, leaving the harem quite intrigued.
After all, above the indicator, there was a line of projection that represented the number of votes that fell for the two choices. These were anonymous votes, so they wouldn’t be able to tell who voted for what, but regardless, to see the number of votes for blue higher than green made them smile amusedly.
Mingzhi leaned back as she raised her hands to her face and wiped it down.
It was indeed going to be hectic.
The problem was that she wasn’t even participating, so she didn’t feel the need to waste time here. She had so many things to do.
"Dalila."
A single word left her mouth even though she wasn’t supposed to speak.
"Dalila, indeed." Shirley sighed gently.
Isabella smiled sweetly at Dalila, "No one else other than you deserves the first spot when it comes to contributions to the entire family and beyond. Without you, our cultivations wouldn’t have improved so rapidly. Our gratitude is endless."
"How can it be just my work alone?" Dalila shot a wry smile, "Without Tina, I wouldn’t have been able to support all of your cultivations."
"No need to stand on ceremony, Dalila." Tina giggled gently, her looks elegant, with her white hair flowing down like a milky river. "I did help, but I would be like a headless fly without you. Your contributions outweigh mine by a great margin. I’d merely be happy just sharing ten percent of your contributions."
"..." Dalila’s smile looked a bit awkward, feeling that her contributions weren’t that great. She appeared both embarrassed and moved, "It’s not like I gather the resources by myself. It’s brought in by all of you, and that directly translates into saved time where I can learn more and subsequently produce more pills. With all of you helping me and allowing me to burn the resources as I please to raise the extent of my alchemy arts, how can I not answer to your expectations? I can’t help with resource procuring since my prowess is lower, so it is only right-"
"We are aware." Shirley interrupted her, "Still, bringing in resources is one thing, and making pills is another. Clearly, none of us nearly knows as much as you when it comes to alchemy, so the significance the family places on your pill arts greatly increases. Alright, don’t be shy. The first spot is yours. Everyone, if there is some disagreement, let us know."
"..."
Everyone shook their heads when Shirley looked over to them, indicating that they didn’t have a problem.
Even if they did have a problem, how could they offend the Pill Empress of the Davis Family?
"Many thanks for choosing me. Dalila is grateful."
Dalila controlled her expression as she stood up and elegantly bowed. She turned around to leave and walked out. She was about to leave the hall when Shirley snapped her fingers.
"Juili and Jade, please doll her up."
"With pleasure~" Jade Aurora stood up with a smile.
Xiu Juili was a bit stunned but then understood this was a mission. She also stood up and went along with it.
Dalila was dumbfounded. She barely turned to look back at them before she was caught and dragged away. They made it out of the hall.
Walking in the hallway, Dalila made a wry expression as she asked.
"Do I smell that badly?"
"You reek of herbs~" Jade Aurora giggled in a hushed tone, "But you still smell sweet, just a bit bitter, like medicine!~"
Dalila’s cheeks turned red as she could tell that Jade Aurora made it sound better, "I can’t help it. I refine hundreds or thousands of herbs a day. No amount of baths can wash the scent away easily unless I drench myself in special concoctions for days, but we had to leave because of the emergency situation."
"It’s not a problem." Jade Aurora shook her hands, "It’s a sign of hard work, and our husband would love it."
Xiu Juili ran to the front and cupped her fists, "Elder sister, I have heard about your reputation. I’m aware of how difficult it is for family or sect alchemists to work, and you always stay secluded to make pills. The pill you made for me the other day greatly helped me. You have my utmost respect. In my opinion, your scent isn’t the problem. It’s how plainly you are dressed- that’s where the problem lies."
"Is-is that so?"
"Yes, yes~"
Jade and Juili nodded like two innocent women. Dalila blinked at them.
It was unknown what they had planned for her.
Back in the Harem Council Hall, the discussion had momentarily stopped.
The ladies became a bit wistful to see Dalila leave first.
They could imagine that only she was going to get his full attention until the entire ’night’ was over for them. She would be the star of this occasion. They could not even dream of being one anymore.
"Death is the last gift of peace from nature to us, but it is so abrupt and forced that we go against it, cultivating to reach immortality. Even immortality doesn’t help us when it comes to facing tribulations and accumulating injuries, so we continue our battle against the way of nature. This is no different. We fight together to be with him, so we must not accumulate hard feelings against each other. We are sisters who share the same man, so we are bound to live and die by his side."
All of the beauties had turned to look towards Myria, who suddenly started to say words that sounded profound to them.
It suddenly helped them focus as they clenched their fists softly and nodded.
"Yes," Niera heaved a breath, "Elder sister Myria is right. Nothing good will ever come out of us if we feel wronged or aggrieved for not being chosen. We agreed to share him when we got together with him. That wouldn’t change ever. That said- it isn’t good to focus on all the big contributors either. Since the first one was chosen without any restrictions, let us involve some factors that determine the result of the subsequent sisters who are chosen."
Isabella and the others looked at each other.
"What do you propose?" Shirley gestured towards her.
"Naturally, what I’m about to say is advantageous to me, so to bring this proposition, I’ll step out of this arrangement."
Niera stood up. Her long blonde hair flowed gently, and her bearing was that of a regal princess. Her arm swayed smoothly as she extended her hand.
"For the second spot, I advise that we choose the big contributors and have them chosen at random through the selection formation. The chosen will gain the spot, and the rest will have lost their chance. For the subsequent spots, we will do the same, but it would be for those who have raked in lesser contributions than what we would consider big contributions. Therefore, our sisters would have an equal opportunity to obtain the spots as long as they have contributed a single bit."
"That’s... an amazing idea." Mingzhi’s gaze flickered.
"Great proposition~" Shirley said with a sweet tone, "This way, those who are new, still cultivating, or have done some things that aren’t taken seriously can also be considered."
"I can agree with this." Lea nodded.
Instantly, everyone echoed the same.
The gaze they looked at Niera had also undergone a change as they shot her grateful glances.
"I didn’t expect the princess herself would let go of this opportunity, much less speak for everyone." Mingzhi giggled before proceeding to take a vote on it.
Niera pouted.
Just because she had a villainous face despite her gentle temperament, a few of the sisters did find it hard to approach her. However, she preferred to be silent, so she didn’t mind.
Soon, her proposition passed.
But before that, Isabella reminded the council.
"Evelynn, Mingzhi and Panqa, since the three of you share the same vote in Aila’s stead, your contributions could be considered together. Evelynn, you sealed the Galaxy Wormhole. Mingzhi, without you, this household can forget about its existence, both internally and externally, since you look after both intelligence affairs and threat detection. Panqa, mhm, getting pregnant with our Emperor’s child alone is worth an immense contribution, although it can’t compare to the other two."
"..." Panqa could only dryly laugh, but she wasn’t offended, considering she also knew she didn’t do anything to warrant being placed high on the contribution list.
Isabella continued, "Together, your contributions when combined obviously claim the second spot. But it is unfair to consider the three of you together, so only one of you will be considered, and that would be Evelynn alone, who cast the vote."
"That’s fine with me." Evelynn agreed, not going against their wishes.
She could sense their intent to gain the spot was still high. She could only help Aila a bit and couldn’t overly favor her even if she was suffering, for this suffering was made from her own mistake that offended everyone else.
For the second spot, they brought up Evelynn, Sophie, Lea, Ellia, Shea, and Everlight.
Sophie’s contributions to armament and artifact forging were immense, considering everyone had a weapon that fit their combat style. It should carry the same amount of contributions as Dalila’s did, but unlike pills, they weren’t overly reliant on weapons. Hence, the significance was less.
Lea’s contribution in obtaining the blessing somehow couldn’t be emphasized, and nurturing Calypsea was another great contribution that she had never been rewarded for.
There was a need to mention Ellia, who secretly created all kinds of techniques to help them cultivate and even defend against Davis’s snoopy Heart Intent, although it didn’t work anymore because he reached Level Three Obscure Intent. As for Shea, could they even weigh the help she had given them when she had practically nurtured their children?
Finally, Everlight’s contributions in nurturing the resources that they have brought over, especially the Supreme Law Treasures, were significant.
After a lengthy discussion, they agreed that the contributions from the six sisters were roughly the same by their family’s or harem’s standards.
However, because there were many candidates, they split them into two groups.
So, for the second spot, they would choose Aila, Sophie, or Lea.
And for the third spot, Ellia, Shea, or Everlight would be chosen.
