Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear

Chapter 810

Chapter 810

Bear-san Left for the Western Forest

Mane-san was staring at me.

It was a secret that I defeated 10,000 monsters.

Only a few people knew about it.

As far as I know, those people were the king, the prime minister, Ellelaura-san, Cliff, and Sanya-san. There may be others who knew, but the information didn’t seem to be widespread.

The fact that Mane-san didn’t know means that there was a strict gag order.

“How much do you know about that event, Mane-san?” (Yuna)

“The commotion started without me knowing, and it died down before I realized it, so to be honest, I don’t know anything.” (Mane)

“That’s the general understanding. I only saw the horde of monsters from afar, and no one was actually attacked. But some of the knights and adventurers in the castle town did make a fuss about it.” (Sanya)

Sanya-san led the adventurers to the location of the monsters, but all they saw were the corpses of the goblins I had defeated.

“Is Yuna involved in the incident involving the 10,000 monsters? Because she’s an adventurer?” (Mane)

“That’s part of it, but…” (Sanya)

Sanya-san looked at me to confirm.

“Mane-san, are you tight-lipped?” (Yuna)

“If His Majesty the King has issued a gag order, I won’t tell anyone.” (Mane)

“Well, you see, I was the one who defeated those 10,000 monsters.” (Yuna)

“Huh?” (Mane)

A strange voice came out of Mane-san’s mouth.

“Um, so that means you fought some of the monsters?” (Mane)

“No, she fought and defeated all 10,000 monsters.” (Sanya)

Sanya-san added to my explanation as if to follow up.

“To keep it a secret, I had to pretend that an A-rank party had defeated them, and I had to ask for an audience with the King and negotiate with said party, it was a lot of work.” (Sanya)

At that time, I asked Sanya-san and Cliff not to let it be known that I had defeated the horde.

Thanks to that, the news of me defeating the monsters did not spread.

“As a reward for that, she received the King’s trust, and was given the seal of the Elfanica Kingdom. Yuna-chan, may I have your guild card?” (Sanya)

I handed my guild card to Sanya-san.

Sanya-san placed the guild card on the crystal plate on the desk and operated something.

“See here.” (Sanya)

Mane-san and I moved behind Sanya-san.

There, my guild card information was displayed.

“It really does have the mark of the Elfanica Kingdom.” (Mane)

“Only those with higher authority can see it, but it’s proof of His Majesty the King’s trust.” (Sanya)

“…” (Mane)

“In addition, Yuna-chan was also the one who defeated the cockatrice that appeared in the elf village.” (Sanya)

“I heard it from Ellelaura, so it was true.” (Mane)

“That’s why I acknowledge Yuna-chan’s abilities, and so does His Majesty the King. That’s why you can trust Yuna-chan. Except for the bear outfit, of course.” (Sanya)

Mane-san turned her eyes to me.

“Yuna, I’d like to ask you again. Please be my bodyguard.” (Mane)

“No problem. That’s what I’ve been planning from the start.” (Yuna)

“Thank you.” (Mane)

Once Mane-san felt reassured, we decided to go to the western forest.

“So, where is the western forest?” (Yuna)

Sanya-san stood up in response to my question, and took a rolled-up piece of paper from the shelf and spread it out on the table.

It was a map of the area around the Royal Capital.

“If you leave the Royal Capital’s Western Gate and go straight, you’ll find it. However, the road continues in a way that avoids the forest. You can’t get there by following the road, so you’ll have to run off the main road.” (Sanya)

Sanya-san was tracing the road with her finger as she explained.

The road from the Royal Capital curves and continues to another town.

There was a picture of what appeared to be a forest drawn at the end of the road.

“It’ll take about four days on horseback to get to this forest.” (Mane)

If it took four days by horse, Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear should be able to get there in less than half that time.

It depended on the speed of travel, though.

Generally speaking, the horse’s “speed” refers to its walking pace. When they run, it’s apparently called a fast horse.

Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear walking speed wasn’t much different to that of a horse.

Unlike horses, however, Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear could run long distances without problems.

“If you go straight for about two days from where the road starts to curve, you’ll reach the Western Forest.” (Sanya)

That was easy to understand.

“I see, then, we’ll be going.” (Yuna)

“Mane, Yuna-chan, if you find anything rare, please drop it at the Adventurer’s Guild.” (Sanya)

After waving goodbye to Sanya-san. Mane-san and I left the room.

I looked around.

But Uragan and Stupid Red were nowhere to be seen.

We then left the Adventurer’s Guild and walked towards the gate to leave the Royal Capital.

Every step we took, I could hear the word “bear” from here and there.

And at the same time, we got a lot of stares.

“I now understand what Sanya meant. Let’s leave the Royal Capital as quickly as possible.” (Mane)

Mane-san walked away shyly.

I followed her silently.

Once we’re outside the royal capital, I summoned Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear.

I rode on Swaying Bear, and Mane-san rode on Hugging Bear.

And then, we started off along the road.

“After riding on Hugging Bear, I now understand what Sanya meant. It’s more comfortable than a horse, it’s soft, and the back is wide, so I can even lie down.” (Mane)

Mane-san lay down, embracing Hugging Bear in her arms.

“My back hurts when I’m riding a horse or in a carriage.” (Mane)

“You won’t fall off, so it’s okay to sleep as well.” (Yuna)

“I worked late last night, and this is so comfortable. I’m feeling sleepy.” (Mane)

“I’ll wake you up if I need anything, so I don’t mind if you go to sleep, you know?” (Yuna)

“Are you sure?” (Mane)

When I agreed, she must have been really sleepy, because she soon fell asleep.

“Well then, Swaying Bear, Hugging Bear, let’s speed up.” (Yuna)

“Kuuun”

Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear started gaining speed.

The road continued forever. The people riding carriages were always surprised every time we passed by or overtook them.

Normally, Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear would leave the road if they noticed a carriage or something, but this time Mane-san was asleep, so they ran without going off the road.

If the bears ran on unmaintained ground, the shaking might wake Mane-san.

So we tried to run on the road as much as possible.

After running for a while, Mane-san woke up.

“Did you sleep well?” (Yuna)

“Yes, I slept well.” (Mane)

Mane-san looked up.

“The sun is pretty high in the sky. Have these guys been running all this time?” (Mane)

Mane-san asked, touching Hugging Bear.

“Yeah, it’s about time to let Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear rest, so let’s have lunch.” (Mane)

There was a large tree a little way from the road, so we decided to take a break and have lunch under it.

I laid out a sheet under the tree and pulled out the bread and fruit juice that Morin had baked.

“Did you prepare this for us?” (Mane)

“It’s delicious, so eat it.” (Yuna)

Mane-san picked up the bread and put it in her mouth.

“It’s soft and delicious.” (Mane)

I was glad that it seemed to suit her taste.

Well, I doubt there were many people who wouldn’t like Morin’s bread.

“Maybe you have a few days’ worth of food?” (Mane)

“Not to mention a few days, I think I have enough food stored for a few months.” (Yuna)

“…!?” (Mane)

Mane-san was surprised by my words.

“I’ve prepared some food too, but if we have this, I won’t be able to eat the preserved food I brought.” (Mane)

“Have you brought some for me too, Mane-san?” (Yuna)

“Yeah, of course.” (Mane)

Now that I think about it, I didn’t talk about the bear house or food yesterday.

“This looks freshly baked, did you buy it this morning?” (Mane)

I decided to keep quiet because it’d be a pain to explain about the bear box.

“But an item bag that can hold months’ worth of food… that’s incredible.” (Mane)

If I took out the bear house, she would probably be even more amazed.

After lunch, we set off again.

“Mane-san, ride Swaying Bear this time.” (Yuna)

“Swaying Bear, you mean the black bear?” (Mane)

“If I continue riding on only one of these guys, the other will get sulky.” (Yuna)

Hearing what I said, Mane-san went close to Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear.

“I see, so they prefer to give their master a ride. It’s Hugging Bear, right? Thank you for giving me a ride this far.” (Mane)

“Kuun.”

Mane-san stroked Hugging Bear’s body and approached Swaying Bear.

“I’m not your master, but I look forward to riding with you.” (Mane)

“Kuuun.”

Swaying Bear sat down in front of Mane-san, as if inviting her to ride on it.

“Thank you.” (Mane)

Mane-san climbed up Swaying Bear, and I rode Hugging Bear.

Swaying Bear and Hugging Bear stood up, and we then headed off towards the western forest.
