The Mech Touch

Chapter 7457 URI-2461-V6

Chapter 7457  URI-2461-V6

Saint Isobel Kotin frowned as she pondered about the options presented to her up to this point.

Neither Exsanguino nor Triton-Remose-B sounded anything like conventional resonating materials.

As one of the most defining properties of an ace mech, resonating materials had an enormous influence on a high-end machine's approach towards combat.

Different from most other objects, resonating materials possessed special attributes that somehow caused them to interact with the extraordinary willpower of an ace pilot in very magical ways.

Saint Isobel was no scientist, and though she considered herself to be better educated than most of her peers, she did not understand the science behind true resonance.

Nonetheless, that did not stop her from making her own observations and rules.

The choice of resonating materials weighed heavily in her mind because of two important reasons.

First, it directly affected how well she could fight under specific circumstances. Whether she could fight longer, hit harder, resist more attacks and maneuver more freely all depended on this choice.

Second, as long as she practiced the power expression granted by a resonating exotic often enough, it would eventually imprint into her being, allowing her to replicate its effects without the necessity of a crutch.

She had shared insights with the other saints of the Larkinson Clan in the past. Each of them relayed how the choice of resonating exotics and alloys directly shaped their paths to godhood!

In other words, the selection of key resonating materials was essentially a turning point in her career. Heer choice would directly define what kind of god pilot she could become if she managed to make it all the way in the future.

She needed to take this extremely seriously.

As she continued to ponder over the strangeness surrounding the presented options, she decided to ask a question before the pair of mech designers could present the third resonating alloy.

"Why are you trying to steer me into expanding my versatility? Is there something wrong with strengthening my core advantages? I would have thought it would be better to pick a resonating material that makes my flames hotter or more difficult to douse."

That was a valid question.

Gloriana did not look upset that Isobel had disturbed her rhythm. "There are good reasons for that. We have considered the alternatives, but do not think they can provide as much value to you. For example, the relatively common ChargeMate and HeatMate can directly compensate for the Promethea Mark II's shortcomings by enabling you to generate additional electrical energy or manage the heat build up with true resonance, yet neither of these possibilities adds any new dimensions to your battle partner. The differences will be marginal. You will still be able to defeat the enemies that are susceptible to you, only with less effort than before. As for opponents that overpower you, they will only become mildly less oppressive due to your stronger base properties."

That sounded a bit too exaggerated. Gloriana might not be completely right, but she was not completely wrong either.

"This does not apply to every situation, but we think that it is still a valid description in your specific case." Ves added. "From our perspective as mech designers, there are 'performance mechs' that rely heavily on their peak performance to overpower their opposition. Such machines do not need too many frills. There is always a greater payoff when you strengthen their fundamental properties. Then there are 'special effects mechs' that distinguish themselves not through raw superiority, but by relying on special advantages that can make life difficult for your enemies."

Isobel did not quite know what to think after hearing that. She instinctively felt upset for having her Promethea categorized as an implicitly underperforming mech that could only pass muster due to unconventional reasons.

"I can understand what you are saying, but I am not quite sure whether this is what I want. When I shared my experiences with Tusa and Dise, they both told me that you pushed them to accept new things. The Dark Zephyr gained the power to banish things while the First Sword gained an array of floating swords."

"We proposed those additions because we strongly believe that they are worthwhile." Ves responded. "And we were right. The new features worked out well despite not having reached their full potential at this time. Note that we are not trying to push new things for the sake of novelty. They actually serve to solve real problems. Previously, Tusa had always complained about lacking the power to defeat or occupy tough opponents. His new ability to banish his opponents adds an entirely new dimension to his kit and allows him to defeat or inconvenience his opponents much better. As for the First Sword's latest addition, the sword formations enable her to add extra power to her main attacks while also drastically increasing her swarm-clearing capabilities. The biggest downside in both cases is that both saints need to invest a lot of time and effort to develop their new strengths."

Isobel had heard enough complaints about it from Tusa. He was especially impatient about growing his resonance strength to the point where he became powerful enough to banish whole greater phase whales!

"We are not claiming that the Promethea Mark II is deficient without a more unconventional key resonating material." Gloriana told the skeptical ace pilot. "If you insist, we can present a list of more reliable choices. We merely believe that the Promethea Mark II without any special advantages will struggle too frequently against adversaries that can resist her firepower better than others. You may be able to count on other friendly units to shield you from an unfavorable situation, but that is not always a solution."

"Then why the weird selection? Both Exsanguino and Triton-Remose-B sound incredibly unexpected and are highly situational."

"That is true, but it is partially because of their narrow scope that they are so powerful when they are in their element." Ves responded. "Our selection is limited by the choice of collaboration partner. You might not fully understand this, but access to high-performing resonating materials rated for ace mechs is quite restricted. The ones that are readily available on the commercial markets tend to be stable but also boring and mediocre in performance. While that may satisfy some mech designers, we are different. We expect more. We expect better. If you truly want to gain access to the good stuff, then you have to persuade a major power to open up a part of its product library."

"The Cybernetic Empire."

"Yes." Ves nodded. "As we have explained before, the Cybernetic Empire's unique circumstances have led to biased technological progression. Its many R&D institutions have not been able to gain access to E energy radiation and superdimensional matter, so they are still trying to catch up from behind when it comes to the relevant fields. We can only make do with their own advancements, of which the most interesting often turn out to be completely unplanned experimental accidents."

Very few if any materials scientists would set out to develop odd and highly specific resonating alloys such as Exsanguino and Triton-Remose- B.

It was only due to luck and coincidence that such materials appeared in the first place.

Fortunately, the Cybers recognized their value and propagated the new tech to other planets.

"Hmm." Isobel thought for a moment. "Thank you for taking the time to explain this. While I still am not fully onboard with this, I at least understand what you are going for. Please present the third resonating alloy, please. I want to know what else you think is suitable."

Ves and Gloriana exchanged a brief glance before the latter did her job.

"The final resonating alloy is called 'URI-2461-V6'. It is the most unusual of the three options. As you can already guess, it is another haphazard lab result. It does not bear a more convenient label because the Cybernetic Empress herself has restricted access to it. Very few Cybers know that it exists. It is only due to Ves' prior acquaintance and familiarity with the Polymath that the Cybernetic Empire has given us special permission to learn about and potentially make use of this key resonating alloy."

Isobel turned to Ves. "It sounds as if there is a bigger story behind this material. What does it do, anyway?"

"We haven't gotten the full story from the Cybers, but we have tried our best to fill the gaps." Ves awkwardly said. "As far as I can guess, URI-2461-V6 may have been one of the partially successful outcomes of a study that attempted to replicate or imitate my design philosophy. The Polymath or one of her many researchers under her may have attempted to use special materials and techniques to develop a resonating material that can imbue the semblance of 'life' into inanimate objects. They did not succeed, but came close to doing so. From what the Cybers claim, URI-2461-V6 may permit you to expend your true resonance to make your flames come alive… sort of. Not really."

"???"
