The Mech Touch

Chapter 7495 Loathing of the Similar Kind

Chapter 7495 Loathing of the Similar Kind

Ves continued to wonder whether superdimensional weapons could effectively kill the deathborn.

They were highly lethal weapons against phase leaders and other material opponents, but they were not universal solutions.

He could imagine several circumstances where purely immaterial threats might be able to neutralize powerful superdimensional mechs or warships due to a mismatch in properties!

This seemed like an absurd situation. Superdimensional matter was incredibly powerful but also incredibly scarce.

Many people had developed a strong belief in the omnipotence of this super-grade exotic material for those reasons. They blindly believed that any conceivable adversary, including god mechs, could be slain by relying on superdimensional weapons!

Ves was one of the few people that did not share this belief.

Superdimensional matter possessed amazing properties, but still could not do everything better than many other materials.

Their spiritual properties were quite disappointing for example. They could not match the strength of hyper materials in terms of interacting with E energy. This alone told Ves that superdimensional matter possessed shortcomings.

Of course, nothing prevented an individual from combining the two materials.

The best materials scientists of all of the major players invested much of their time and effort into doing exactly that. They all knew that superdimensional technology represented the future, and in order to draw out its potential, they needed to develop superior alloys that possessed comprehensively better properties!

Even though all superdimensional alloys sacrificed a portion of their multi-dimensional strength in order to obtain other properties, the tradeoffs were worth it in some cases.

Ves would rather make use of a superdimensional alloy that could also leverage the power of E energy than utilizing pure superdimensional matter that only enjoyed superiority in the material realm.

Of all of the high-end mechs in the combined fleet, the First Sword Mark III leaned a lot closer to the latter.

This had been a deliberate design choice at the time.

Ves did not regret this course, but he also recognized that the ace swordsman mech had a greater chance of suffering setbacks if confronted by powerful intangible opponents.

If not for the fact that the Saint Kingdom of an ace mech happened to be extremely effective against most intangible existences, Ves might not even believe it was worth it to deploy the First Sword Mark III in the next encounter!

In any case, once he was done with visiting Saint Dise, he briefly stopped by the tightly guarded compartment reserved for the Riot Mark III.

He apparently came at a good time, as the dangerous D-mech did not show too many signs of losing control.

During the bad periods, the Riot Mark III had a tendency to tear against its restraints and produce energy fluctuations that made everyone in the vicinity feel deeply uncomfortable!

Its powerful superdimensional Chaos Armor rippled and expanded in a messy fashion. Depending on the mood of the perpetually angry Middle Demon, its surface occasionally spawned razor-sharp spikes or deeply disturbing tentacles!

Fortunately, those manifestations rarely persisted. Whenever Saint Orfan managed to regain enough control, she suppressed her new body's mutations and calmed it down as much as possible.

Though Rosa Orfan had lost her human form, she had never truly let go of everything that made her human.

She still identified herself as one, as this was one of her anchors that prevented her from degenerating into a monster!

Right now, the Riot Mark III may appear calm at the moment, but Ves could feel that its situation was quite delicate.

The ace spearman mech seemed like a spring that had been compressed to its limit. Just a single touch could cause it to burst out of control!

Ves slowed his pace and stopped at a much more respectful distance than usual.

"Rosa? Are you… present?"

The Riot Mark III's ominous eyes briefly flashed with red.

"Ves. What… do you want?"

"I wanted to talk about your upcoming mission. Casella should have transmitted the relevant documents to you. Are you prepared to face a new kind of enemy that is different from the ones we have fought before?"

"...Yes. I am not afraid of undead ghosts. I won't… embarrass myself like I did when we fought against that Level 8 Goliath. My strength lends itself better against an enemy that lacks a strong body. I am even looking forward to how well I can destabilize these new opponents. I just don't know whether my Destroyer spear can kill them fast enough."

Ves smiled after hearing that. "I wouldn't be too concerned about whether your tier 3 Destroyer weapon will let you down. According to my own understanding, it should be much more effective than the Decapitator. A superdimensional greatsword may perform fantastic when used against phase leaders, but their ability to damage immaterial opponents is much more questionable. In contrast, Terran Destroyer weapons are all-rounders in this regard. Everything and everyone must seriously guard against the threat posed by Destroyer particles. Perhaps they do not excel in any single job, but their ability to destroy both matter and energy is absolute. The only constraints are quantity and quality. Besides, you also have many other strengths that you can count upon."

Ves had higher hopes on the Riot Mark III for multiple reasons. The powerful D-mech was designed to be a menace against all kinds of opponents. Its effectiveness against the deathborn should be quite good as the latter should definitely be vulnerable to attacks empowered by both true resonance as well as destruction energy.

Furthermore, the Middle Demon that constantly fought to assimilate Saint Rosa Orfan should also play a useful role.

He did not forget that he had managed to 'produce' the Prophet's Bane by forcing many demons to fight for survival in special containers.

Through multiple rounds of screening, this ritualistic form of 'gu cultivation' had produced a violent demon that had proven its ability to defeat a vast number of other intangible entities!

Whether demons were identical to these so-called deathborn remained to be seen. Ves certainly recognized the similarities, but he did not automatically assume that they were exactly the same.

Ancient cultivators had accumulated a considerable amount of lore on demons, though Ves only had access to a fraction of that knowledge.

What he knew about demons did not entirely match with the descriptions of the deathborn that he had read in recent reports.

Ves personally speculated that their origins may be the cause behind their differentiation. The demons of the Milky Way may possess their own characteristics from the deathborn of Messier 87.

What they did happen to share in common was that they were both derived from deceased sentient life forms.

If this was the case, then Ves believed that the deathborn had the ability to grow and evolve to a frightening level, just like their demonic cousins!

Given that the deathborn originated from a much more powerful supergiant galaxy that was capable of generating a high-energy environment, he believed that there was a good chance the deathborn possessed much greater strength and powers, especially in their middle and upper ranks!

Sadly, Ves had yet to obtain solid proof that this was the case, so he could not do more than warn his troops to expect greater complications than usual.

"As powerful as you are, the deathborn may still be able to frustrate you, if not directly, then indirectly." He said. "For example, the deathborn may find that you are too tough and confounding to defeat with ease. They can attempt to entangle you with a handful of powerful units while sending the rest of their ghost army to assault our fleet."

"Traps will not be able to hinder us. We will disrupt and tear apart the enemies who dare to stand in our way. Of this, both of us are in agreement."

Ves raised his eyebrows in surprise. "The two of you… are able to work together?"

"Yes." Saint Orfan's artificially synthesized voice boomed across the compartment. "The demon and I may be enemies, but if there is one thing we can agree upon, we will not allow others to intrude and devour us both. The very existence of these deathborn has attracted the hatred of the demon. It remembers. It will not allow itself to share the fate of many of its previous victims."

That… was an unexpected boon. Ves did not expect for the Prophet's Bane to become so spooked by the similarities between demons and the deathborn that it was willing to compromise with Saint Orfan just to wipe out any deathborn that dared to treat it as prey!

Ves mentally filed this particular trait in the back of his mind. He had learned an important method to gain the compliance of a normally irrational and rebellious Middle Demon.

Perhaps he could set up similar situations in the future if he wanted to transform the Riot Mark III into a more focused and controlled engine of destruction!

"I feel much more reassured if the two of you can temporarily set aside your differences in order to address our real enemies." Ves said with a smile. "Will there be any problems on your end?"

"Do not trust this demon." The ace pilot spoke. "Keep your guard up against my Riot. He may be sincere about eliminating the deathborn, but that does not mean he has become our ally. He has never thrown away his desire to devour me and take over my entire mech. I am still expecting him to launch a surprise attack and try to take me over in mid-battle. I will do my best to resist such a move, but if it actually happens, then do not allow friendly units to approach us. I cannot guarantee their safety."
