Chapter 3705: Let's Chat
Lu Yin had not expected Luo Ning to blatantly ignore everyone’s requests and completely disregard them all. Lu Yin had genuinely intended to prepare a few battle techniques to share, but any decent technique would require a bit of thought, and the relative strengths of the individual the technique was intended for also needed to be weighed. Still, Lu Yin had never intended to renege on his promise.𝓯𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
However, the results meant that he did not need to develop anything at all.
He had also gained a rough understanding of what was happening at the top of the cliff. The palace there had to contain invaluable memories. If not, the Nine Odysseys Megaverse would not have bothered sending people to try to approach it. From what Lu Yin had heard from those people, these excursions were nothing unusual for the people of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Clearly, this was a bit of a routine.
What sort of things were qualified to be popularized in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?
The Nine Heavens Transformation.
The Wayfinder Sutra.
Both of those techniques had been popularized in the megaverse, and this palace was another commonly available resource. What was readily available in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse was completely different from what the other three megaverses had access to.
After returning to the base of the cliff, Lu Yin looked over at Old Chief and the other conscients.
The Luminaries had been watching Lu Yin the entire time.
They had seen him rise up and do something at the top of the cliff. Whatever it was, the atmosphere among those above the cliff seemed to have changed. There was something off about this human.
“Let’s talk,” Lu Yin said to Old Chief.
The ancient conscient instantly grew wary. “We’ve already discussed all that needs to be said. Right now, our most important task is to deal with the High Seraph. Surely, he’s the primary reason why you left the Tianyuan Megaverse, isn’t he?”
Lu Yin agreed, “That’s true, but the High Seraph hasn’t shown up yet. We can talk until he does.”
“What would you like to talk about?” Old Chief asked.
The High Seraph was the Consciousness Megaverse’s greatest enemy, but if he was dealt with, Lu Yin and the other man from the Tianyuan would be next. All humans were the conscients’ enemies.
Lu Yin looked up at the cliff. “Let’s talk about that palace.”
“What have you learned?” Xi Wen suddenly asked, her voice pleasant to the ears.
Lu Yin chuckled. “I just know a bit, but it’s probably more than you, unless you’ve climbed up there yourselves.”
Xi Wen and the others exchanged glances. There was hope in each one’s eyes, but also caution. This human might not radiate a pressure that threatened to annihilate everything, like the High Seraph did, but that did not mean that he was weak. It simply meant that this human was better at concealing things.
“Will you tell us?” Shuangdao asked in a low voice.
“That depends on what you’ll share with me.”
“What do you want to know?” Old Chief asked.
Lu Yin met the Luminary’s gaze. “When all of you fought against me, you...”
He pointed at Old Chief and then Xi Wen. “And you used very special sword slashes.”
Old Chief and Xi Wen exchanged glances. “The Lower Heaven’s Blade.”
“The Middle Heaven’s Blade.”
Lu Yin nodded. “The Upper Heaven’s Blade... or simply Heaven’s Blade.”
“They all come from the same origin. Do you want them, sir?” Old Chief asked.
Lu Yin laughed. “Why don’t we trade? I’ll tell you what’s happening above the cliff, and you teach me those two sword techniques.”
“Impossible,” Xi Wen instantly refused, but Old Chief said nothing at all.
Lu Yin looked at Xi Wen. “I don’t understand. Why is it impossible? Do you think that just the Middle Heaven’s Blade is enough to make you invincible?”
Xi Wen had reflexively refused. She had kept the Middle Heaven’s Blade for a very long time. After having it exposed, being asked to share it was hard for her to accept.
Old Chief had learned the Lower Heaven’s Blade ages ago, and he was not so concerned.
“My time here is almost up, and I’ll need to switch with Yong Heng. I’ll give you some time to think about it.” With that, Lu Yin looked around at all of the Luminaries. “Just a reminder, but just like the High Seraph, Yong Heng is a peak Dukkhan.”
Yong Heng happened to appear the moment that Lu Yin finished speaking.
Lu Yin barely glanced at the other man before leaving. Even after he was gone, his words continued to echo in the ears of Old Chief and the other Luminaries.
A peak Dukkhan could theoretically become an Immortal at any moment by resetting a megaverse. Yong Heng was from the Tianyuan Megaverse, but if he could have reset that megaverse, he would have done so long ago. Judging from the enmity the two Tianyuan cultivators had demonstrated before, it seemed possible to the conscients that the failure to reset the megaverse might have to do with the younger man. Since it was not possible to reset the Tianyuan Megaverse, then the only remaining options were the Spirit Nidus or the Consciousness Megaverse.
There was no doubt that the conscients felt threatened. After all, it was clear that it would be far easier to reset the Consciousness Megaverse than the Spirit Nidus.
Yong Heng had the same goal as the High Seraph. Could that be why they had originally cooperated?
Lu Yin’s words succeeded in altering the mood below the cliff as well. The Luminaries started eying Yong Heng with greater wariness and hostility, and the man easily sensed it. He glanced over in the direction that Lu Yin had gone, back at the Luminaries, and then up at the cliff. It was clear that the atmosphere had changed in both places.
“What did that man just say to you?” Yong Heng asked directly. He had an excellent understanding of Lu Yin. Despite the man’s youth, he had already succeeded in becoming the ruler of the Tianyuan Megaverse. Aside from his impressive cultivation and combat strength, the most important quality about Lu Yin was how well he could manipulate the feelings of others. Many cultivators across multiple parallel universes had been convinced to join the battlefield by Lu Yin, only to later worship him with fanatic devotion. That was no easy feat.
Old Chief coughed. “Nothing. We were just discussing how to deal with the High Seraph.”
Yong Heng shook his head. “You would do well to pay attention to what he says. While he is indeed from the Tianyuan Megaverse, he has another identity that you may not be aware of.”
Old Chief and the others looked at Yong Heng in confusion.
Yong Heng said slowly, “He is the disciple of the Spirit Nidus’s invincible being.”
The revelation completely startled Old Chief and the others. “What did you just say? That he’s the invincible being’s disciple?”
Yong Heng clasped his hands behind his back and then added, “Everyone in the Spirit Nidus is aware of this. If you don’t believe me, go ask.”
The Luminaries exchanged looks, feeling that this claim was absurd.
While the High Seraph was the Consciousness Megaverse’s greatest enemy, that only remained true so long as the invincible being did not appear. That person had not been seen by the Spirit Nidus for so many years that most cultivators had forgotten about their existence, or simply did not believe that they were real. The Consciousness Megaverse had those same doubts.
Suddenly, the invincible being’s disciple had appeared. Whether or not that disciple posed a threat was one thing, but the invincible being surely would not personally appear, right?
The High Seraph was already a peak Dukkhan. Did that not mean that the invincible being an actual Immortal? Just the thought gave all of the conscients chills.
A great many of the Spirit Nidus’s people had visited the Consciousness Megaverse, and that made it very unlikely that someone would fabricate such a lie.
A single comment from Lu Yin had turned the Luminaries against Yong Heng, while a single sentence from True God had similarly turned the conscients against Lu Yin.
They were allies due to their current goals, yet they were enemies because of their positions.
Both men understood the other all too well, and the only safe path that remained open to them at this point in time was to undermine the other. It was only a matter of time before one’s death was caused by the other’s manipulations.
Yong Heng was not fond of speaking. He much preferred to take action, like when he had destroyed the Heavens Sect. However, with someone like Lu Yin as his opponent, Yong Heng could only counter each of Lu Yin’s moves with one of his own.
Posing as the invincible being’s disciple had allowed Lu Yin to reap vast rewards in the Spirit Nidus, but in the Consciousness Megaverse, that same status would incite nothing but hostilities.
Old Chief and the other Luminaries fell completely silent. They could not trust any human, but the ones that they were currently interacting with were also terrifyingly strong.
Xi Wen felt a wave of bitterness. She would have preferred that the two men had said nothing, as both had made terrifying revelations.
“By the way, did something happen atop the cliff?” Yong Heng asked, glancing up.
Gui Shaoqing replied, “The other man went up there and said a few words. Whatever he said caused the current situation.”
Yong Heng had nothing to say to that, despite not being the least bit surprised. “Did he say something about me?”
Neither Old Chief nor any of the others answered, but no response was necessary. The more that the two humans said, the more the Luminaries would be able to learn.
Unfortunately, Yong Heng stopped speaking. There were times when one sentence was worth more than a hundred. He was certain that the conscients no longer trusted Lu Yin, and that was enough. Saying too much would only lead to mistakes.
Silence reigned at the bottom of the cliff. No one spoke as they waited for the High Seraph’s return.
It did not take long for Yong Heng to leave and Lu Yin to return.
When he saw Old Chief and the others’ eyes, Lu Yin understood that Yong Heng had said something. “So, did you make a decision?”
Xi Wen stared at Lu Yin with eyes filled with dread and fear, as well as a hostility that she could not hide. Lu Yin was startled by the sight. Yong Heng’s ability to sow discord was nothing short of miraculous.
“How do we know that you’re telling us the truth?”
“Because I couldn’t fabricate anything that sounds realistic.”
“Even if you do tell us, you might keep things from us, right?”
Lu Yin laughed wryly. “It looks like you don’t really want to know. In that case, just forget it.”
Xi Wen glanced at Old Chief.
Of course they wanted to know what Lu Yin had learned, but they simply did not trust him.
Lu Yin had no idea what Yong Heng could have said to create such a drastic shift in attitude towards him, but he did not bother trying to guess. There were too many reasons for the conscients to resent him.
“Why did you come here with the people from the Spirit Nidus?” Old Chief asked.
This was a question that the conscients had wondered about for a long time. The Tianyuan Megaverse and Spirit Nidus were enemies, and yet this man had joined the campaign to destroy the Consciousness Megaverse. If the former had submitted to the Spirit Nidus, then there was no explanation for the fact that Lu Yin had attacked the High Seraph.
Everyone from the Spirit Nidus “knew” that Lu Yin had been sent by the invincible being to replace the High Seraph. Despite the entire thing being a lie, it sounded completely plausible.
That was also something that Yong Heng had neglected to mention to the Luminaries.
Lu Yin looked at them. “Are you looking for trust?”
Old Chief gravely replied, “You could say that. If the Consciousness and Tianyuan Megaverses unite, then we will certainly be capable of defeating the Spirit Nidus, but that only holds true with a genuine alliance.
“It is because you attacked the High Seraph previously that we are willing to wait here with you to ambush him. Still, we must plan for the worst. If our attack fails when the High Seraph returns, we could be looking at a three-way war between our megaverses.
“To fight a war together requires mutual trust.”
Lu Yin nodded. “Fair point. I can answer your question, provided that you give me a reason to trust you as well.”
Lan Huifeng rarely spoke, but he took the opportunity to answer Lu Yin, “We’re already on the verge of seeing our megaverse be reset. We are the Spirit Nidus’s eternal enemies. What more is needed for trust?”
Lu Yin’s voice turned frigid. “And yet your megaverse has not been reset, and this remarkable place still stands.”
He looked up the cliff. “If your Consciousness Megaverse is reset, then this place will disappear, won’t it? This Willbound Spire holds tremendous appeal to the High Seraph. He’s already come here twice, and he will surely return a third time. I have reason to suspect the only thing stopping him from destroying the Consciousness Megaverse is this exact location.
“The High Seraph needs what you have, and yet my megaverse has nothing. If, at the last moment, you defect to the Spirit Nidus and help them eliminate us, well, resetting the Consciousness Megaverse is resetting a megaverse, but so is resetting the Tianyuan Megaverse. Why should I believe that you won’t sell us out to purchase your own safety?”
Old Chief sighed. “That shows that you don’t understand the hatred that exists between us and the Spirit Nidus. The people of the Spirit Nidus would never-”
Lu Yin raised a hand to interrupt the conscient. “I don’t need to understand. Earning my trust is your job, not something that I should be talking myself into.”
