Chapter 3919: The Scroll

Chapter 3919: The Scroll

Lu Yin looked at his back. “What kind of person was Greater Sancte Mi Jin?”

Qing Xing stopped, but he did not turn back to look at Lu Yin. After a moment’s thought, he said, “Someone who liked to meddle in others’ business.”

“How did he die?”

“Two retreated, leaving one to die. Don’t ask anything more, else I fear that you won’t be able to stay in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Remember, you must be smarter to avoid becoming a scapegoat.” With that, Qing Xing left.

Lu Yin stared at the man’s back as he moved away. Two retreated, leaving one to die? A scapegoat? Is that how it was?

Of the two who had retreated, one had undoubtedly been Greater Sancte Green Lotus, while the other must have been Greater Sancte Blood Tower, since Greater Sancte Awe Gate had not been an Immortal at that time. Her breakthrough had only occurred after the Mindscape Megaverse was defeated.

Lu Yin could not deny that all three Greater Sancti had treated him very well since his arrival in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and had also shown him a great deal of leniency.

However, his few interactions with them had been brief and quite recent, so he did not really know what kind of people the Immortals truly were.

For that reason, he chose to believe Qing Xing, at least to the point of remaining cautious.

From his time in the Tianyuan Megaverse until his time in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, Lu Yin had always remained wary, and that would not change.

Zhang Hongyun and many others silently watched from a distance. None of them dared to disturb Lu Yin, at least not until Lu Yin looked at Zhang Hongyun and beckoned him forward.

The old man took a deep breath and approached. “Mr. Lu.”

Lu Yin nodded. “Your Loneswan Island has done well.”

Zhang Hongyun was moved. “Thank you, Mr. Lu. It is my Loneswan Island’s honor to serve you.”

Lu Yin released Zhang Yushu, and the young man immediately saw Zhang Hongyun and shouted in excitement, “Grandfather!”

Zhang Hongyun glared at the young man. “Silence! Can’t you see that Mr. Lu is here? Hurry and bow to thank him for sparing your life!”

Zhang Yushu was no fool. He had already thought things through after the last time he was released from a Zenith Mountain. He quickly bowed to Lu Yin. “Thank you, Mr. Lu, for sparing me. I’m deeply grateful.”

Lu Yin gave a small nod. “Go with your grandfather now. You’ve endured long enough.”

“I wouldn’t dare to say that. Following you has been my greatest blessing,” Zhang Yushu quickly replied.

Zhang Hongyun hurried to add his own comment, “Yushu never had much luck while he was growing up. Meeting you, Mr. Lu, has granted him his greatest opportunity.”

Lu Yin gave a small smile as he tapped Zhang Yushu’s arm. The young man could feel his meridians swell, which caused him to instinctively want to pull back. However, he forced himself to endure the sensation.

He was well aware that, if Lu Yin wanted to harm him, not a single word would need to be said.

Zhang Yushu simply felt his entire arm go numb. He could not feel anything at all.

Zhang Hongyun watched and grew increasingly excited. Sure enough, serving Mr. Lu came with rewards, even if the old man did not yet know what they were.

Lu Yin pulled his hand back. “I’ve infused a certain energy into your body. Over time, it will strengthen you, improving you until you surpass your peers. If your life is truly threatened, it can also be unleashed to save you. As long as you don’t encounter an absolute powerhouse, it will be enough to keep you alive.”

Zhang Hongyun was overjoyed. “Yushu, hurry and kowtow to Mr. Lu!”

Zhang Yushu dropped to his knees. “Thank you, Mr. Lu, for granting me this power. Thank you, sir!”

By the time he looked up, Lu Yin was already gone.

Zhang Yushu finally let out a long breath. His arm was still completely numb. Zhang Hongyun quickly helped his grandson to his feet and then touched his arm. The old man could sense a deep, solid power emanating from the arm. He exclaimed, “Mr. Lu truly lives up to his reputation for physical strength! He once shattered the Autumnspring Slip with pure power. He can be considered unmatched, given that not even the Third Night Pillar’s Kang Tian can compare to him despite being called the Lord of Strength. Yushu, you need to properly absorb this power and not waste it.”

Zhang Yushu nodded. “Grandfather, what exactly has Mr. Lu done in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse? It seems that he didn’t just destroy the Autumnspring Slip. Why do you all fear him so much?”

Zhang Hongyun gave a bitter smile. “If you knew all that he’s done, you’d also be afraid of him. Such fear is nothing to be ashamed of. I’ll tell you this much—when we learned that Mr. Lu was the one asking our Loneswan Island to take action on his behalf, the island master almost came himself. When you return home, you’ll receive treatment unlike anything you’ve seen before. Haven’t you always fancied that Jing girl from the island master’s clan? That won’t be any problem now.”

Zhang Yushu was thrilled. “Really? That’s wonderful!”

Zhang Hongyun sighed. “It’s a pity. If you could have become Mr. Lu’s disciple, you would have instantly soared into the heavens in one step. Forget that Jing girl. Even if one of the Seven Fairies decided to propose to you, no one would have dared to say you’re unworthy.”

Zhang Yushu grew puzzled. “Then why didn’t you bring it up just now, Grandfather?”

“You think that such a small matter is enough for you to become his disciple? Self-awareness is important, as is not rushing to receive credit. After our Loneswan Island has done a bit more for Mr. Lu, we might be able to mention it. Besides...”

Everyone pursued their own benefits. Loneswan Island had not helped Lu Yin just because of Zhang Yushu, but also to establish a relationship with him. However, if Lu Yin ended up as an enemy of the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse, Loneswan Island could very well be buried by that same connection.

At the moment, Lu Yin seemed to be held in extremely high regard by the three Greater Sancti. However, there was no ignoring that he was from the Tianyuan Megaverse. No one could say what the future might bring.

Oftentimes, things came down to making a gamble. Winning would see one soar into the heavens, while losing would send them into the abyss.

If Loneswan Island had enough courage to gamble, it would have never been left languishing at the bottom of the various factions.

Several days later, Lu Yin saw the Fifth Night Pillar.

There were countless cultivators traveling towards the Night Pillar through both the sky and across the ground.

After everything that had happened, Lu Yin had not expected to eventually become the Fifth Night Pillar’s Odyssey Commander. He wondered what the Azuresword Sovereign thought of the current situation.

At that moment, on the Fifth Night Pillar, the Azuresword Sovereign’s face was calm, yet his disciple Xian Ding knew that the man was nervous. The Azuresword Sovereign was not angry, but uneasy.

The man simply did not want to go to the Allsense Megaverse. This had nothing to do with the fact that Lu Yin had been assigned as the Odyssey Commander. Rather, it was entirely because the war would not be easy.

When had any expedition to a foreign megaverse been simple?

Each war was fought against an entire megaverse that consisted of countless parallel universes that were home to countless creatures. Who knew what kind of civilizations might be there?

Even though the Allsenses had been studied beforehand, it was impossible to learn everything about them.

In the past, every such war had been led by an Immortal overseeing the warfront, ready to take action at any moment. This time, there would only be Lu Yin.

Lu Yin was strong, but he was not yet at the level of an Immortal. That was what made the Azuresword Sovereign so uneasy.

A single wrong move could mean death.

The Allsense Megaverse should be roughly equal to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, which was not something that a few Night Pillars could defeat.

“Master, is that...?”

The Azuresword Sovereign looked up. Lu Yin had just arrived.

Everyone on the Fifth Night Pillar fell silent. Lu Yin’s arrival meant that war was nigh and that departure was imminent.

Lu Yin swept his consciousness across the entire Night Pillar. As the Odyssey Commander, he was entitled to do so.

He discovered that quite a few familiar faces were present.

Wei Heng and Jing Lian were present. Are they here to watch me again?

Wu Jie was also present. It appeared that the Dream Dominion had no intention of directly interacting with Lu Yin and were instead leaving the Wu Jie’s seal for Lu Yin to handle.

There was Lang Ruyu and Ku Nan...

Hmm? Master Yi Bai?

Lu Yin looked to one corner of the Fifth Night Pillar, where Master Yi Bai bowed to him.

The man was one of the few from the Autumnspring Slip who had earned the respect of outsiders. Unexpectedly, he had also joined the expedition.

Even before the announcement, the Fifth Night Pillar had been home to many cultivators, including two peak Dukkhans: the Azuresword Sovereign and Lian Jing. However, many more experts had swarmed the Night Pillar, though none were at that level. Such powerhouses did not frequently appear.

The entire Fifth Night Pillar was bustling, though the atmosphere was far more somber and serious than when the Sixth Odyssey had first prepared to leave.

The fact that reinforcements were being sent meant that the war was not going well. No one knew what might await them.

Lu Yin landed in front of the Azuresword Sovereign, and the old man hurriedly bowed. “Odyssey Commander.”

Xian Ding also quickly bowed. “Greetings, Odyssey Commander.”

Lu Yin said, “You will still be the one overseeing the Fifth Night Pillar’s affairs. That won’t be a problem, will it?”

The Azuresword Sovereign felt helpless. Despite not even being the Odyssey Commander, he was still being forced to do the work of one. However, with Lu Yin staring at him, there was no way the Azuresword Sovereign could voice any complaints. “Understood, Odyssey Commander.”

Lu Yin went to find a place to rest, though not before reminding the Azuresword Sovereign not to reveal his location to Jing Lian or Wei Heng.

He really did not want to be stared at by two grown men.

Before the Azuresword Sovereign could even react to that order, Jing Lian and Wei Heng arrived, both asking where Lu Yin had gone.

The only answer that the old man could give was that he did not know.

The two men were given no choice but to search the entire Night Pillar.

Xian Ding was stunned. Jing Lian and Wei Heng were both exalted disciples of Immortal Greater Sanctes, and yet they had been deliberately ignored. Mr. Lu’s certainly vicious enough.

More and more cultivators continued to join the Fifth Night Pillar.

Arrivals continued to appear right up until the scheduled departure time arrived and the Fifth Night Pillar was sealed off. As soon as that happened, no one else could join.

Deep underground, the Morrow Behemoth let out a wild roar.

Lu Yin opened his eyes and looked up into the sky.

A gate appeared, towering high in the sky above the Fifth Night Pillar.

Lu Yin bowed low. “Greetings, Greater Sancte Awe Gate.”

“Greetings, Greater Sancte Awe Gate.”

“Greetings, Greater Sancte Awe Gate.”

...

Countless voices merged to form a powerful wave of sound that rolled forth with enough strength to suppress even the Morrow Behemoth’s roar.

A gentle voice came out from the gate. “Survival inevitably requires sacrifice. Since you are willing to step onto the battlefield, you must possess both the resolve to pay the necessary price, as well as the determination to obtain what you desire. Live. Win. You can achieve everything you want.

“Here, in the name of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, I wish you all a triumphant return.”

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

The war drums thundered, and the earth shook as the Morrow Behemoth roared and picked up the Fifth Night Pillar. With a furious howl, the Fifth Night Pillar transformed into a meteor that soon vanished from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

Countless eyes throughout the Nine Odysseys Megaverse watched as the Night Pillar departed. When it returned, who could guess how many would still be alive? Still, there was no doubt that some would return transformed, bringing something new back to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse with them.

Since Lu Yin had seen a Night Pillar depart from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse once before, the Fifth Night Pillar’s departure was not as shocking.

However, he was even more curious about the scroll that he had received from Greater Sancte Awe Gate. It supposedly contained information regarding the war against the Allsense Megaverse, and he had been told to look at it only after leaving the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

As soon as he was gone from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, Lu Yin could no longer suppress his curiosity and immediately opened it. He found that the scroll was ten meters long, which was relatively short, and it only held a few images.

As the scroll was unfurled, multiple scenes rose into the air. While they were each hand-painted, they were vivid and lifelike and looked exactly like real battlefields.

The longer that Lu Yin looked at the images, the grimmer his expression became. He also understood with increasing clarity why reinforcements were needed.

Just from the images shown on the scroll, too many cultivators had already died during the war, and yet all of their deaths were different. This led to a bizarre, horrifying picture.

He saw a group of cultivators who stood motionless on the ground, their eyes covered with black cloth. They stood like statues and allowed a storm to approach them from the distance, but even as it tore them apart, they still did not dare to move. It looked as though they were simply waiting for death.

He saw another group who collapsed as they walked. Allsenses then crawled out from inside their bodies in an extremely cruel and terrifying manner.

He saw yet another group hiding on a planet, trembling. One by one, they died, as though imprisoned.
